The new illustrated story, Forsaken Ruins, is a little off. It mentions the ships carrying a large number of crew, and the direct control over the ships being the only benefit of the pods. Not only does this make the crew on these ships useless, but it also directly contradicts the POTW which originally introduced the pod: Jovian Wetgrave.

This POTW says: "With it a ship a big as this one can be controlled with only a handful of crew and smaller ships, like your frigates, can even be controlled by a single person."

It also states that this is what allows the Jovians to field such a large navy. Why then in this recent story are cruisers and battleships still carrying hunderds of crew?

Well, hundreds, I don't know, but a Cruiser is manned by crew, as is a battleship. Most small frigates need only the Pilot, some have a crew of one or two people.

There used to be a number of crew needed on the blueprint picture that's posted on the eve-site.

No idea why that was abandoned.

In any case your ship needs a crew Wink

Agreed, a few, but not nearly as many as Forsaken Ruins says.

At the beginning of Jovian Wetgrave we find the young lieutenant on a caldari cruiser, perhaps even a blackbird:

"Lieutenant Hirakii Pirkotan looked at his freshly shaven face in the steel mirror in his cabin aboard the Caldari cruiser Okarioni."

The Jovians go on to later state that a cruiser can be controlled by a handful of crew, which usually means less that 10, and not more than a dozen I would say.

Now to Forsaken ruins which states that the blackbird alone is carrying hundreds of crew, with the tempest carrying twice that much.

"Mattias focused the drone cameras on the Blackbird, inspecting the massive gashes in its hull. Judging from the metallic carnage, he estimated that sections of at least 6 decks were now exposed directly to space. Somewhere beneath where he was sitting, hundreds of crewmembers were sealing off compartments, fighting electrical fires and desperately struggling to keep his ship's vital systems functioning."

and

"The Omen was about the same size as his Blackbird, but the Tempest was much larger than the two of them combined, with more than twice the number of crew onboard."

I would say that means at least two hundred persons per to account for "hundreds," four hundred to double the number for the Tempest. That makes 800 people at LEAST. Much more than a handful. Way more than three handfuls. It shouldn't be too hard to go in and quickly edit this so it all stays in line, could someome go do it please?

I can't fault them for missing something, but it should get fixed to maintain solidarity with the other eve stories and chronicles.

If you think about it though. The fact that he "cares" about his hundreds of crew is part of defining the person. So the writer is most likely using it to emphasize that the character is "good" by letting you know the personal feelings of him. If he was to say that he cares about his 10 or so crewmembers this wouldn't have the same effect.

You might have forgotten that the short stories are given out by CCP the stories here on the board are given out by players.
As far as I understand it, in the smaller frigats the systems can be handeled by a computer, however when the ship gets bigger crewmen are needed (officers, engineers).

For example my character has desided to never learn flying cruisers or battleships as he don't want the responsibility for the crew.
