on the random crashes issue, there is not much to say, since there are already lots of posts in the forum.

but the really annoying thing is that sometimes when switching to another desktop and then back to eve desktop i cant type anything anymore.

i have to kill the client and start it up again.

anyone else experiencing this problem?

kind of. I've had focus problems when just starting eve. It seems to have a problem with sometimes not grabbing keyboard focus. If you hit alt+tab until you get to the one that says something like "Cedega DirectDraw HAL" it seems to make it grab keyboard focus. See if that helps..

There are several things that can cause this:

if you have any key listeners running, like bbkeys for blackbox, look at disabling these.

try with different window managers. some window managers are better than others at handling focus/input on events.

make sure that your window manager isn't losing (again another window manager thing) track of the window eve is being played in. consider your focus settings too, most UNIX guys enjoy "Sloppy Focus", however, the direct input/output may not be responsive to the sloppy focus, and require a click focus scheme.

hint: sometimes, the window shade x atom is better adhered to by most window managers, so if you are playing in a X window, and want to switch desktops, I find the transitions become more reliable during gaming if I shade the window before I switch desktops. The switching will happen a lot faster, the OpenGL window redraws will happen a lot faster after unshading, and input/output is usually fully restored.

regards the kb problem. reading the error.log after a crash, i find a notice that says Wine does not recognize the kb layout. eg i am using a swiss-german kb and Wine sees it as a spanish kb. don't know if this is any help. :)

i got no keyboard tools running. and for the windowmanager "issue". i do not want to switch my window manager just for playing eve. i am running gnome, without any modifications. (just one shortcut for opening a terminal). i would say that it should work in this configuration.

btw i tested yesterday with xfce -> same issues.

i am using the keytable "de-latin1-nodeadkeys" and lang en_US.UTF-8.
