Sup everyone, need to get a research paper done in order to graduate. the topic?

My views on Online Gaming Addiction.

I need 6 Sources. 1 Encyclopedia (excluding wikepedia), 1 Internet Source, and 4 Non-internet sources (They can be found on the internet, but must have been published outside of the internet.)

I have had no luck looking for non-internet sources and wondering if I can get help from the players myself.

Thanks

Nick Yee's Daedalus Project

Took part in that when he was doing the initial studies. You should also check out the psychological magazines, as they are doing a good deal of study into this subject.

for published works, you can go here to find some stuff (it is on the nickyee.com website as well).

if you need an interview, eve-mail me, and we can exchange IM's (hotmail preferably), or a convo in game.

While it's all debatable, a lot of people consider it a problem but not one that qualifies as an addiction.

Either way, I just went to Amazon.com and searched and got this result. A lot of it is about gambling addiction and online gambling which they call gaming etc, but some of it seems to be what you're looking for.

Aww, beat by Wrangler while I copied the URLs Crying or Very sad

Online Gaming
Virtual Worlds
Gaming Addiction

Though, you probably won't find many books in the library. The topic is relativly new and largely ignored in academics.

I think the forum alone proves that Eve is addictive and has negative side effects. Let us know if you come up with a cure :)

On a sidenote, looking at that amazon list I wonder if you should do a study on native americans with an eve addiction :)

Thank you all for the very helpful responses. Got me thinking maybe I can use other types of addiction sources to help backup how gaming addiction could be similar?

Depending on the perspective you are writing from, you may find some interesting bits in the DSM-IV.

Lol I just wrote a paper for my final project for the English class in collage. Titled Online Gaming Addiction, for sources We only had to have two. I uses online gamers online gamers anonymous and one from my collage library search system. I am sure your school has one as well and thats where I would start looking for Non-internet sources. Here is the Thesis Statements I was going to use but my professor kinda shot down but it might work for you. "Internet gaming is not only a dangerous addiction; it is becoming a worldwide problem." Here is the one my professor liked "In today's world, going outside to play with your friends has become a thing of the past. Now we do it online." Hope this help you, good luck.

Another interesting addiction is breathing. Very much a worldwide problem Laughing

Addiction is a rather weak term if you ask me, partly because we are hardwired to repeat actions that make us happy (ever wonder why the human race hasn't died out yet?). Most well minded people are capable of using logic to weigh the benefits of doing one over the other. However others are unable to chose between the two and thus it causes problems. Only when problems occur does society describe it as an addiction.
