I Am "running" EVE on ubuntu 7.10 Desktop, and I have had no luck what so ever to get it running.

I did become optimistic about the sound trick, to set it to use OSS instead of ALSA, but to no avail, I still have a black screen.

I am using a USB headset with sound card built into the head set (Sennheiser).

So My thought is that if EVE and sound could cause problems on linux, why not make it an option in the configuration to disable sounds entirely, so at least I could get to play the game without sounds.

I never play with sound on anyway, since thats for n00b's anyway :)

At lest its worth a try, or perhaps a better support for usb head sets in the cedega engine would be great as well.

But anyway good to see CCP at least trying to support different platforms.

All system tests are fine, except the sounds which fail on both ALSA and OSS

Reinstalled my linux, and this time chosing OpenSuse 10.3, but to no avail.

Same issue as ubuntu.

My sound system seems to be incompatible with EVE on linux :(

So same experience, see splash screen, then black box on the middle of the screen.

I hope this gets fixed soon.

So I might as well go back to ubuntu, at least the installation was working flaslessly there, on opensuse, I had to run the .rpm multiple times before getting a response.

Well now, Fixed something, I tweaked the prefs.ini.

disabled sound, and that made the "Please accept end user agreement" screen appear.

But now I have the following problem.

When I scroll down, and the buttons Accept / Decline appear, nothing happens when I click on the buttons.

It seems like the UI dosent like my input devices, or their events are not grapped properly.

For reference my system is:

cpu: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz

I presume you've copied arial.ttf to the appropriate place? Black screen usually caused by that.
