Pfft, I learned to read basic at 3 (Cat, Dog, Bus, Mat and such) and was reading quite properly at 5-6 (Attempting proper books by myself) This was helped along by going to speech therapy, where I had to learn alot of worlds to practice pronouncing them. The earlier children learn to read the better, alot of people in Britain could gain much from reading more.

EDIT: Got ages a year wrong (parental correction ftl -.-)

Actually it's the stated goal of certain political entities to have all kids read by 6.

If anyone has ever been around kids, getting them to sit still long enough to do so tends to be more difficult than the learning part Laughing

Boohoo, kids have to deal with stress by learning *gasp*! Waaaaa, kids have ADHD and therefore can't be expected to learn. And those darn old people are just mutants because they...they..had to deal with this when they were young *gasp*!

Seriously, our tenure system makes these professors to lazy and incompetent sometimes. Universities need to do re-evaluations on all professors every other year to rate their intelligence. Then again, maybe he's trying to get grant money to study this a little and dump the rest for another project. These guys sell their souls grant money.
