Ok, Well I have been having a hell of a time getting Direct rendering to work on Suse 10.3, after spending hours trying to get it to work I have decided to post here.

What have I done:
-I have the Updated Drivers for my video card
-I have try disabling xgl.
-Tryed various modifications to the xorg files

Still have been unable to enable direct rendering

My Video Card:NVIDIA GeForce 6600 LE

64bit can be a royal pain.

Make sure all the 32bit libraries you can find are installed (Suse still using YaST? Should make it easier to track down).

Make sure the drivers are the latest version and are installing any necessary dependencies for 32bit programs.

Make sure that you are using 24bit mode in the xorg.conf and that it really does say "driver nvidia" in there and not "nv".

Once all that's done in a terminal glxinfo | grep direct if it says yes, try glxgears (which runs regardless) and the FPS should be through the roof.

Right that'll be your OS ready to go and we can move on to Wine/Cegeda related issues :)

This is turning into a general Linux support forum :-))

1. Post your driver version (nvidia or opensource)
2. Post your xorg config, xorg veersion (remove # comments from the config to make it shorter)
3. post current glxinfo (the part with direct rendering line)

Btw nvidia cards do not need XGL, so your distro is doing something wrong. They support AIGLX/Composite in the driver (ATI is still at the bugged AIGLX stage).

Yes 64 bit is a pain in the ass right now., I had a ***** of a time getting flash to work.

I will post the requested information from the xorg file, get time to, busy with school work atm.
