Anyone else watch this? Why does he dis CCP and Eve so much. All this guy ever does is talk about how boring and bad Eve is. Ill link to the latest episode.

MMO Report

I think this guy or his writer just tried the trial for 5 minutes or something and got owned? I don't get it, compared to the last MMO i played, City of Heros, this game is action packed and intense.

And what of this new game CCP is making? Is it going to be based off of Trinity 2?

Thoughts?

And the opinion of some mouthbreathing knob on G4 should have relevance?

Not a flame, mind you. Just that G4 is like the Lucky Lager of gamer media. Cheap, watered down, transparent and completely devoid of any taste.

As with any internet video G4 offers, savor the time spent watching the buffer bar -- that's frequently the best part.

Don't lose any sleep over what people on G4 say. Like many others, their reviews are based on what they think their viewers will like. They would rather spend time talking about xxx or xxxx (take your guesses) for the 100th time than actually put time into playing and reviewing something different/unusual.

I don't really consider G4 to be a reliable source of information.

He most likely bashes EVE because one of the other companies has paid him to do so.

The new game is based of off the World Of Darkness series from White Wolf. As for the engine, who knows right now. From what Ive heard on the forums from a few devs a LONG time ago, ambulation is supposed to be a test for the engine for the WoD MMO, which Im sure is subject to change.

Its not just G4 that say this you can find more reports and reviews and opinions that are negative towards EVE than praising it, And lets face it the game does have some fairly serious limitations and faults.

ArrowLag

ArrowLimited gameplay, If you can play RTS games with only a moderate level skill control wise you can master EVEs pve and pvp combat due lack of depth its just mashing at your keyboard and mouse clicks with no finesse or skill necessary (Although this does have appeal for certain types of gamer) basic pvp is largely decided by blob size and ship fittings, If you know how to fit a ship well or have a larger blob the fight is usually decided there and then. Fleet battles and larger gang pvp are one of EVEs jewels in the crown as cooperation and coordination are needed with skilled FCs to gel a force together. Star Trek bridge commander is an illustration of how the ship control Interface could have been done with the ability to fully interact with the ships power systems and ability to tactically manipulate shield output and other aspects without the game being down to twitch controls (Heat was a small baby step towards something like this but it was to little and to late)

Arrowmassive time sinks with no way to ever catch up, Although limiting players achievements and restricting them to a time scale is in some ways good in other ways its a massive mark against it for most gamers. Some MMOs are the reverse of this and allow players to rapidly achieve higher levels and abilities which gives no sense of achievement and can make the game unrewarding but the New Trend for a lot of upcoming MMOs (including 2 space MMOs) is removing any type of leveling or skill increase removing those aspects of time sinks and grinds.

ArrowUnfriendly community both on the forums and in game, No player pays to insulted or to be the object of abuse yet on these forums people are told to "slit their wrists" and provided instructions on how to create toxic gasses just because they made a post, same in game some of the chat aimed at new players is horrific and people drop jetcans so they can kill them. This kind of crap spreads and gives EVE a bad name and people tell their friends who tell their friends and Internet word of mouth can be extremely effective.

The main thing with EVE is the political and logistical aspect of 0.0 alliance empire running with its wars and fleet battles and the industry needed to build a successful player created empire. The market system is unique as well with a largely player run system.

Don't get me wrong I like EVE and a accept it for its faults because it has many things other games do not have.

Lag isn't that big a deal unless you're sitting in Jita or in a massive fleet battle. The latter can't be helped really without a recode of the entire online architecture as far as I can tell.

Eve also has the most complex PVP out of ANY MMO out there. Seriously, if you think it's simple, you're either flying a nano'ed out winstick, or haven't really tried. It's hardly orbit and win.

The community is unfriendly, yeah. That's why www.scrapheap-challenge.com exists? :P

Few days ago I was playing other MMO and one dude asked me what was EVE like. I told him that it's griefers paradise and anyone can kill you anywhere and get your stuff .. etc etc.

He replied to me that he didn't like "mean" games and that he hoped EVE would have been like Elite. Luckily, he won't be joining EVE and we will not hear him whine in whorums.

I have a couple of buddies who play wow, they asked me about eve one day. I told them it was a Man's man MMO. They could not believe that when you die you loose your stuff, and one of them tried the demo and could not believe how complicated the game was. I think its for the best, it keeps most of the children that wow have away.

Games with a learning curve ftw!

I'm not a traditional MMO player so I have experience in their pvp but if EVE is the most complex tbh it speaks volumes for the whole genre of existing MMO games. And while pvp is not just orbit and win its not much more it basically comes down to equipping your ship well (not just using cookie cutter builds to) and knowing how to use them effectively. Their are some limited tactics involved like staying out of web range and other consideration but fights still usually blob size ships and fittings and SP.

Honestly, THAT's the thing I ABSOLUTELY love about EVE and its Community !!!Surprised

The "Hello Kitty Online is that way -------------> "
thing is honestly something that sums up the inner sheer joy I feel everytime I read these forums... Also quoting a very nice sig I once saw I want to say this :

"In a game where killing, stealing, scamming, lying, impossible odds, huge losses, constant risks, and doing whatever you want to whoever you want whenever you want for any reason you might have or for no reason at all are all standard gameplay, can you really call what just happened to you griefing?"

Razz

So honestly, I really like EvE as it is , and to be truthful, I feel it is getting a bit "soft" lately by the influx of new people demanding right away they get treated like the Princess of Super Mario when looked upon by an evil koopa or frowned upon by an evil paratroopa ... Shriek and expect a Red Italian plumber guy rescue them from their "peril" and demand right away for everything to be fixed to their pink fluffy ideal of a world ...

As usual that's just me tho, and bleh, Ima carebear, can't even begin to guess how ebil piwates must feel these days ugh

Don't think he has actually played the game. There is always some people who think that world should be pink and fluffy. Well it's aint and it aint going to happen either. EVE is sandbox and player activities here mirror in rather accurate way human nature.

EVE just aint for those people who are looking happy endings. It's dark harsh world where one needs to fight for it's right to live and no free meals are served. Only happiness you get is the one you craft for yourself. Preferably with some buddies and at the gunpoint.

But don't shoot me mmkay ? I'm carebear afterall. Yarh?
