first, there is a button called "quote" when you actually quote someone.
secondly, i am not a goon and have never been one.
third, this actually is eve online a massive multiplayer online roleplaying game where you guessed it no factions called the polish.
fourth, im not insulting any polish people who might be playing the massive multiplayer game known as eve online, i am merely pointing out that you are in ISS who will not loose the stations in fountain core as you atleast cant loose those.

was that informative enough?

I'm insulted by your implication that Poland was more important in the defeat of Germany than my home country. We fought the Japanese, helping to reduce pressure on the Americans and boost their presence in Europe, which in turn contributed to the defeat of Germany.

As a Bookmaker, I feel qualified to weigh in here.

When you place a bet, you are making a contract with the bookmaker. This means that when you place the bet, you agree to the rules listed specifically at this time, with the provisions stated at the time (stake size, terms of the wager, etc) and you agree to honour the terms and conditions of the bet as stated.

The bet was, that IAC would hold the station on the 20th. There were no Act of God, Server Downtime, random kitty attack, etc, clauses in the contract, as witnessed by CAOD, and so as such, the bet stands. This is standard practice at any reputable bookmaker throughout the world.

Analogies to a soccer game or William hill are silly, because William Hill as a bookmaker has a set of defined rules, which you agree to when you place a bet with them. Their rules cover things like match cancellation, team forfeits, crowd riots, disqualification, etc. No rules regarding the bet being void or extended were agreed to in this bet, therefore the bet stands "as is".

Unfortunately everyone's going to look at my ticker and flame me, but I'd say the same thing even if bob had lost sov previously and were trying to take it back as the server went down.

Of course, still waiting to see what Tyrrax does, so all the alt flaming and trolling is moot at the moment =P

Edit: Godwins law rapidly approaching 1

Edit2: Yes, Pilk isn't a bookmaker. But I'm saying what a bookmaker WOULD do. You know. Stuff.

I'd like second opinions from an astronaut and an IT professional so we can get the full range of relevant expertise to arbitrate this internet spaceship bet.

Weren't you objecting to the idea that Poland didn't win the war? If you want to claim that Poland won the war then I think you're unfairly underestimating Australia's contribution.

Reference: Original bet confirmation post.

Had Pilk waited to take FAT, relying on the very last moment, he would equally have had to pay up.

Correct, and I would have (unhappily, but willingly) done so.

People saying the bet was won because of downtime are ******s. Even if IAAAAC put towers on every moon and killed all of BOB's it would still be our station today.

This is the most important quote to those railing about unplanned DT's. On the date of the completion of the bet, BoB would have held the station regardless of any RSF/IAAAC actions short of a spy offlining the BoB towers. Any discussion of the DT is therefore moot.

Originally by: Moon Kitten
What happens if he doesn't pay up?

Absolutely nothing. As explicitly admitted in the original post about the bet, there's nothing forcing either of us to pay. I will note, however, that I offered, in good faith, to put assets worth 500m in escrow with a trusted third party for the duration of the bet.

Originally by: prsr
Obviously the the extended downtime is only relevant if you're looking to get out of the bet.

Lesson for next time: bring more lawyers with your next bet and write down all the exceptions that people are making up in this thread after the fact.

Clearly, such disclaimers would be necessary if betting with a Goon. I'm hoping that Tyrrax hasn't seen this thread yet, and that's why I have not yet been paid; I have sent him an EVEMail with a link to it.

CAOD wins again!

Heh, true. But I posted here in the fun spirit of the original bet, to keep things spicy, and because I was headed out of town and wanted something interesting to return to. Thus far, with the exception of the bizarrely-large amount of talk about WW2, this thread has delivered. I'll be emailing the mods to request a cleanup of the WW2 references shortly.

Besides its a gentlemans agreement, some of you might not understand that but normal betting rules dont apply to that. Those kind of bets are never voided for any reason, apart from one of the involved parties being less then they thought themselves to be.

Originally by: wikipedia
The essence of a gentleman's agreement is that it relies upon the honor of the parties for its fulfilment, rather than being in any way enforceable.

That sums it up nicely, you can back out at any time of such a agreement, without even giving any reason. If you honor it you honor it because you want to do so, based solely on your attitude.

Which brings me back to TT, i think he is the kind of dude who would fullfill such an agreement even if the servers had been offline the entire time the bet was running. And you guys in IAC can be damn proud having leader like that, cause thats what seperates the men from the boys.

I agree. I don't think Tyrrax will back out once I remind him of the bet. He probably forgot and has not been on the forums of late.

Prove it. Cause honestly, just saying something is true doesn't make it true.

Also, if this was true. You have no e-honour! You take a bet and abusing someone lack of knowledge to make a profit for yourself?! Anyways, I would be less of a baby about this myself and go 'Meh, extend it for x amount of days. Furture unplanned downtime won't effect the bet deadline.'

Cause either way, your bet is you believe whoever can continue to hold the system. While others are saying they can take it away in x amount of days. Or do you no longer have faith in your group to continue to hold the system? If that's true, then honestly it's a lose lose. Not only are you taking advantage of someone else and having no e-honour, but you also have no faith in your 'friends'.Evil or Very Mad

Okay. On the day I posted this, BoB had sov in the system. Sov only changes at DT. Therefore, BoB could not NOT hold the station on the 21st, regardless of anything RSF/IAAAC did.

Does that explanation constitute sufficient proof?

You realize the bet was made to end on the 21st and you posted a day early. If all towers would have been destroyed Sov would have gone neutral on the 20th and then whoever had more towers up would have gotten Sov on the 21st. Way to own yourself.
