Why is it after every patch I have to re-create all of my settings for my characters? Are the character file structures changing for each patch? Even if I save off my settings and move them back after the patch I still have to recreate them. Anybody else always having this problem?  |

I think the trick to keeping all your settings is just to click "Finish" on the patcher and re-launch EVE manually, rather than clicking "Launch EVE-Online". |

Eve can save settings?
Seriously, my settings never hold anymore since CCP moved part of eve's files to a completely different folder for no good reason. I run two clients at the same time which are installed on seperate disks and my settings held for a while but then got corrupted. Now it never saves any settings anymore on either client and when it presumably tries to write settings to disk when i close the client it crashes while windows pops up a window asking me to help MS test their software without offering me any compensation whatsoever. |

your "no good reason" is to allow for vista compatibility first and foremost, but also is just smart computing. programs have no business writing config files to their own directories (and therefore requiring the rights to write/modify their installed directory to be able to run properly). that arbitrary location was chosen because it is within the profile of the user running the app. this is the only area that a user should be making changes to except for in the case of administrative tasks. |

My main character lost all settings (including some chat channels nobody can remember the passwords for dammit).
Then I logged in my alt to check markets in empire and all his settings were fine (even market quickbar, etc).
On the main I notice a new chat window labeled "constellation" as well, which isn't on my alt. Any connection? Are we getting a constellation chat? Right now the constellation chat window seems to have zero people in it (33 in local). |

Do you guys that lose settings all use the END:LUA OFF thing?
If you do then clicking "run the game" after the patch is done will ignore that and that's maybe what's happening to your settings. |

The game REALLY needs to make a backup of ALL user settings before making a patch. Preferably a dated backup. |

That would make sense, however my settings are gone even when I click on my desktop shortcut. Very annoying, makes me redo all settings every patch. I just simply don't understand why it is so complex to not have the settings reset after patches. |

I am aware that it's smart to seperate configuration files from the software itself, such has been the standard for decades on unix. My beef is with the sudden and reckless implementation of it that has caused all kinds of crap for me and others running multiple accounts at once. For software developers the task is to make these changes without the user even noticing, but someone made a decision to cut programmer hours and pretend that over half their playerbase doesn't run multiple instances of EVE. |

If i had a say then they would write nowhere else but their own directories. I mean that is kind of the idea of a directory or not? I would like a simple little selection in the options so I (the paying customer) can decide where my client will save it's settings. Then the few people that have Vista can set it to whatever Microsoft allows them and I can decide my self where I want my settings saved. But hell.. that probably would have been an extra man-day... it's much better to invest that time into walking on stations and EVE voice. |

Dunno. Cause ****ie Branson decided to delete a file on my computer cause he thought it was infected with something bad, I had to reinstall Eve. Well it was more like patch, curse, restore, patch, curse, disable PCGuard, download, reinstall, run Eve.
Even after all that fuss, it remembered everything.
