With the new graphics engine coming in November, I was wondering if the ship models are going to get a facelift to take advantage of the new graphic power of EVE? I know it would be a lot of work, but it would nice to see new models with more detailed textures and higher poly-counts to bring EVE's awesome-for-its-time graphics up to par with current titles.

While at it, it probably wouldn't hurt to redesign some of the uglier ships in the game. This may just be a personal pet peeve of mine, but I've noticed that some of the more recent models, like the new battleships and battle cruisers, exhibit a sense of aesthetic design that a lot of earlier models (especially Caldari and Minmitar ships) lack. The wildly asymmetrical designs of yore could use some balancing, and the often painfully angular look of Caldari and Minmitar ships in particular could use some smoothing out. Just take a look at the difference between the new Rokh and the older Scorpion and Raven to see what I mean.

Of course they will. Some of the new ship models have already been teased in concept art and early render. I will leave it to a more dedicated poster to provide linkage hotness.

They are all getting reskinned, but I doubt they will change the general look and feel of the ships. Ravens, Domis, Blackbirds, Exequerors and Moas will all stay fugly, they'll just be a more detailed, slightly sexier fugly.

Ah, I found a couple of videos on Youtube. It's kind of hard to tell from the low res video, but it seems like there are actually new, higher-poly models. November will tell for sure.

Main difference are textures.
Seeing movies from early beta and movies from now, with developer comments, it seems that current designers are as excited about clean shiny ships, as they were excited about dirty rusty ships in the beginning :)

Personaly, I'd love flying triangles because one polygon renders fastr then 1000 polygons :) I also think that texturing should be optional, in games in early 90ties, models had no textures and looked very good.

When I want to see billions of polygons, I go out and look at a tree in the material world :)

The Trinity II upgrades are awesome, and it really improves the feel of the game. The visual impact of the game has for a long time been paramount to the experience of playing EVE, and whilst they aren't perfect, for an MMORPG the graphics have always been above the competition.

When the upgrades are released to the general players, I have no doubt that everyone will concur that it was a massive step forward for the game.

Only if it will come together with new server software so they will be able to handle 300ppl shooting at each other :P
