Feel free to add more. I hope to make this a go-to thread for anyone seeking skill-based solutions to in-game problems. Probably won't work, but it's worth a try. Very Happy

1) Running out of powergrid? Train these skills: Engineering (5% Bonus to ship's powergrid output per skill level), Energy Grid Upgrades (to fit Power Diagnostic Systems), Shield Upgrades (5% reduction in shield upgrade powergrid needs), Advanced Weapon Upgrades (2% reduction in powergrid needs of weapon turrets and launchers).

4) Running out of shields too fast? Train these skills: Shield Management (5% bonus to shield capacity per skill level), Shield Operation (5% reduction in shield recharge time per skill level, and to fit Shield Boosters), Shield Upgrades (to fit Shield Rechargers and Shield Extenders), Tactical Shield Manipulation (level I, to fit active shield hardeners, AKA Fields), Energy Grid Upgrades (to fit Shield Power Relays), EM Shield Compensation, Explosive Shield Compensation, Kinetic Shield Compensation, Thermic Shield Compensation.

5) Running out of armor too fast? Train these skills: Mechanic (to fit Armor Repairers), Hull Upgrades (Grants a 5% bonus to armor hit points per skill level, and to fit Active Armor Hardeners and Plates), Repair Systems (5% reduction in repair systems duration per skill level, and to fit Armor Repairers), EM Armor Compensation, Explosive Armor Compensation, Kinetic Armor Compensation, Thermic Armor Compensation.

6) Not doing enough drone damage? Train these skills: Drone Interfacing (20% bonus to drone damage per level), Combat Drone Operation (5% Bonus to drone damage of light and medium drones per level), Drone Sharpshooting (Increases drone optimal range), Amarr Drone Specialization (2% bonus to advanced Amarr drone damage per level, and to use tech-2 Acolytes, Infiltrators and Praetors), Caldari Drone Specialization (2% bonus to advanced Caldari drone damage per level, and to use tech-2 Hornets, Vespas and Wasps), Gallente Drone Specialization (2% bonus to advanced Gallente drone damage per level, and to use tech-2 Hobgoblins, Hammerheads and Ogres), Minmatar Drone Specialization (2% bonus to advanced Minmatar drone damage per level, and to use tech-2 Warriors, Valkyries and Berserkers).

Hey, I've long wanted to write a FAQ, dealing with not just skills, but also other ways to tweak ships and game stats and such. Basically a FAQ for skills, modules, ships and rigs.

The problem is, I'm only half a year into the game, and I know very little, so I'd really prefer for it to be a group effort, with lots of people contributing to it.

I imagine www.gamefaqs.com could host it, once it is worth showing off.

Anyone interested in contributing?

Some people already get boggled at so many skills to keep in mind of when skilling up. A nice "reminder" guide is needed. Sticky it.

It isn't common sense for new players, and some people forget some of these skills. It's good to have a nice reminder or guide around.

Looks like a good guide. You might want to include Propulsion Jamming under section 3)

afterburner skills fits under section 3 as well. increases AB duration, so readuces cap it needs over timeIinstead of 10 cap every 10 secs, 10 cap every 15 secs for axample) ;)

also, cant catch up with your enemies or get into warp fast enough?
trian navigation for more top speed, evasive manouvring and space ship command to increase your ship agility, acceleration control to increase the speed boost from AB and MWD(need ab and mwd skill) and hull upgrades to be able to fit overdrives, istabs and nanofibres(increase speed, agility and reduec mass respectifly)

missiles not dealing a lot of damage? train gunnery skills(sorry, couldnt resist)
train missile launcher operation and rapid launch to incraese your missile ROF
train missile bombardment and projection to increase your missiles range(projection also helps your missiles catch up to faster targets)
guided missile precision to increase damage vs smaller targets(does NOT affect rockets, heavy assault missiles and (capital)torpedoes. this is the ONLY skill that does not affect these 4 missile types)
target navigation prediction to increase damage agasint faster targets.
and read the missile guide

trouble with your turets not hitting or not dealing a lot of damage?
train gunnery and rapid firing to increase turret rate of fire
train sharp shooter and trajectory analysis to increase your range(read tracking guide for more info on range)
train motion prediction to increase your turrets tracking(decreases "minimal"range. again read tracking guide)
train surgical strike to increase damage.

cant think of anymore right now, and hope theres not too many types in here

edit: right lets try that again..

Drones can't reach their targets?

Scout Drone Operation (+5km/lvl) and Electronic Warfare Drone Operation (+3km/lvl)

Ship too slow?
Navigation (5% speed/level)
Evasive Maneuvering (5% agility/level, accelerate faster)
Afterburner(Afterburner cap, equip Afterburners)
Acceleration Control(larger AB/MWD bonus)
High Speed Maneuvering(equip MWD, smaller capacitor usage)

Skirmish Warfare (+2%/level in a fleet)

Having spent some time chillin in Newb Help on alts I know these are common questions. However, the actual questions have a wide scope than just skills. For example:

"How can I increase my ship's power grid?"

Is best answered:

"Train the 'Engineering' skill, or fit a Power Diagnostic, Reactor Control or Auxiliary Power Core Module (see Market > Ship Equipment > Engineering Equipment) Also Energy Grid Upgrades, Shield Upgrades and Advanced Weapon Upgrades can reduce your power requirements."

Still, this is good stuff. Check the bio on my alt 'Charlie Seriya' in game for a whole bunch of this stuff.
