Haven't you ever heard of the immutable law of **** Happens?

TQ is a very, very complex piece of hardware. There are going to be faults from time to time. Has your PC never gone wrong?

Suck it up and do something else for a bit. Jeez.

Some of you people are making me lose what little faith I had left in humanity.

To CCP: Good luck with getting it running again, and my commiserations on the ****load of overtime you guys are going to have to be working.

First off. Do you even play eve? You may not think its annoying to play a online game wich keeps going offline, but most of the 20 k people online right now thinks so.
And its not a mather of 60 pence a day thing, its a mather of a entire day wasted running the same mission over, and over and over again to raise standings with a faction.

Firstly. Of course I play Eve; usually everyday.

And yes of course it is annoying, but like I said, **** happens. Roll with it. It is not the end of the world. Despite all the screaming going on.

And perhaps you should find something more fun to do than running the same mission over and over and over again. Pirate for a bit perhaps?

Finally, we've had hiccups for a couple of days on and off. Think how much time you've been running those boring missions without there being a server problem. There, doesn't seem so bad in the grand scheme of things now, does it?

Ah, it's just like old times. Almost 4 years and nothing has changed, same old server crashes, same old grumbling on the forums. Only the names have changed, it's almost like I was never away :)

Ladies and gents, to amuse you during the downtime, I present:

EVE Crash Bingo!

Simply download the PDF above, print it out, pick one card, and follow the thread. You're not allowed to post the stuff on the card yourself to be able to cover a square, but anytime someone else (not playing) does, you get that square.

Who's gonna get the first BINGO?

Suggestions for more terms/words welcome, I'll maybe make more cards.

I am sure their own employees who are responsible for keeping the servers running are far more knowledgable about the Eve servers, how they work, and what problems they are having than any non CCP expert who's only experience with the servers is playing Eve.

this happens ppl, is a game not a life.

Well, when you grow up and have to get a job and your parents don't pay for your stuff, you'll realize that while yes, it is a game, you still have to pay real life money to play it. And when you add up all that CCP makes on this game, it's real. When you have precious little time to play as it is, these things happening repeatedly become rather frustrating.

I do know what tech support is like, I support UNIX and Enterprise Storage in a large corporation. If we had problems of this frequency, we'd be looking for a new vendor, and probably a new support tech staff.

a customer base whinier than any proper users,
you still give out detailed technical details of what the problems
as someone who has worked in the IT industry for the last 13 years you guys deserver a fricken medal.

just go back to your previous error messages, they're simpler and easier to understand by the unwashed masses.

"It's broken, we're fixing it."

No need to show everyone how superior you are by "understanding" about "how this is nice that you give specific details as to the problem" to the "unwashed masses".
I haven't worked in the computer industry for 13 yrs but when i see 4 out of 5 friends ready to explode because they play eve 8-10hs a week to unwind and when they do that they get disconnected, they end up doing the same mission over and over and over again because they cannot end it as the server keeps going back, and they also lose everything to a widely aknowledged server crash that "can't be proven cos our logs show nothing".
WTF, when you have a server crash that is talked about on the forums and a death mail in the same minute the problem started, you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that it might be more than just a coincidence.

It is a game, you can accept getting kicked in the nuts because the other guy is smarter, and you made a dumb choice. But when you pay 15$ a month to a company to get kicked in the nuts by it, then you are a bloody moron.

And remember, what the unwashed masses pay ends up in part in your wager.
It's something you need to understand if you want to go from "the guy who can repair anything and there a million like him" to "the guy ordering the guy who can repair anything around".

yup they are called devs,

seriously this game is one of, if not the most advanced mmpog available, no other game provides 1 domain for so many ppl to participate in and if you (not directed at the person i qouted) cant handle the occassional issue then go and play one that only allows a handful of ppl to play on the same domain. At least youll reduce the lag for the rest of us.

aye. it's the ETA for startup, not the eta for total online. Actual access to the server will probably be at 22:10 or 22:15 due to the time it takes to online the servers and start all appropriate services.

And if yer lucky you got a blockade l4 and have been able to milk the same mission for bounties upwards of 5-6 times in the past couple days..That's almost a week's worth of farming =)

Has your PC never gone wrong?

Sure PC's go wrong, they run MS products...

That's why High Availability systems don't run MS products

Actually that's incorrect. A number of exceptionally large companies run windows products in HA architectures. Although I will grant you that there is more software out there that is *nix based that supports HA solutions natively.

I think it'd be interesting to see what some people come up with but I think the hinge pin in proposing something like this is the lack of scope people would have on CCP's current systems, architecture, and long range plans. Still... would be an interesting discussion in any case Very Happy

this may be abit too much common sense, but wouldn't the fact 25k of people are trying to access the same forums to find out the problem this time have an effect?
Not since I've experienced problems reaching EVE-O for the past days, and I highly doubt that 25k users have been trying to access the forums 24/7 for the past days...

I've had really, really bad issues with EVE-O the past few days. Had to hit reply several times, refresh pages to get them to load fully - or just complete and utter timeouts.

Tip from Microsoft -- Install the service packs when they are released. Not months after. Release date for SP2 was 5 March 2007

Having dealt with Microsoft a lot the first thing they will say is "have you applied the latest patches" -- when you reply "erm the ones from march?" they might be inclined to say "call us back when you are up to date"

Personally I think they should use the new servers that are a 'nun crossed with an apple' -- i.e. a computer that never goes down on you!

Quote from ccp's website "Even today, roads have been re-routed and building plans redesigned or abandoned to avoid disturbing rocks where elves are said to live."

Mayby the elves they have been employing are revolting and want a pay rise or maybe we should sacrifice some dev's to the great god of SQL and hardware.

Peace
