Windowed mode is disabled in the EVE client on Mac and Linux but the Transgaming wrapper has window control.

So you set the EVE Client to the Resolution you want than then resize the Window via the Transgaming tools.

I will find out about the Anti-aliasing.

great, thanks for that :)
i just found out that i can get antialiasing to work in parallels with the ati displays utility. so far ive not had any luck with opengl overrides and cider tho, presumably because its not actually using opengl..

Any news, Lingorm?

We are a great bunch of linux users out here who'd love to get weekly updates on the development of the future of our gaming system... it will be our lifeline, and we are longing to ditch microsoft OS completely.

Cool

We have tested the mac client and it looks good.

Still got a few things to test with the Linux client.

I am delaying my email till monday due to some support systems no being ready.

But the files will be ready to go then and all you testers can have at it.

I missed the call for beta testers, so I'm watching with extreme interest from the outside. Please hurry! My MacBook Pro really needs to jettison this Boot Camp partition.

Get the CrossOver Trial, works for 30 daya and EVE works right out of the box (DLs/istalls even self with the package)

I'm curious; what exactly the Cedega-based Linux client will offer over a standard Linux+Wine installation?

If the 'update' process will work; that'd be good... as that's the only thing I see obviously not working on my Linux+Wine installation. With each EVE update; I have to d/l the 'whole' 600Mb client instead of just using the auto-updater.

That's great! Could I join the testing? Mac Mini 1.83Ghz Core Duo. EVE works on Crossover for me, with sound too (till 2 patches ago).

Since binaries should be the same, i guess that wrapper/installer will ship as package (that should be installed as usual package into root), and it will automatically download+install game to home folder for each user (~/.eve most probably), so that theoretically 2 or more users should dl game corresponding number of times (ofc there'll be ways to avoid it, but they're not so user-friendly).
And this package will be used to run eve... transgaming supplies us with package... CCP with game client...

It's about convenience. Not having to worry about getting all the dependencies yourself. The same reason why people pay for certain Linux distros.

You might want to try using the auto-patcher again. Works flawlessly for me. As does downloading the patch and manually running that.

Will the new Eve Client also be available for Linux and Mac on or soon after its release? It seems like a waste to put effort into porting the existing Eve client to other operating systems when there's a new version on the horizon.

I have kind of a fundamental question. How hard is the framerate hit going to be? I've used EVE in WINE, Cedega, on XP, on Vista, etc. all on the same hardware. I would like to see a significant framerate increase over an EVE+WINE or even current EVE+Cedega. Will this happen?

i cant speak for cedega, but cider (transgamings wrapper for osx) performs extremely well with the games that have been 'ported' using it so far. i assume that having transgaming themselves working with ccp on this will give very close to native performance with cedega too, and it should certainly be better than a less tweaked port using something like wine.

Mail Sent with instructions and the link to the Mac download.

Will email again with the link to the Linux version when it has passed the internal check and has been uploaded to the download service.

do you happen to know if desktop switching will be disabled in the linux client ? it would help the disabling of windowed mode (like we allready use in cedega)

nice one, thats the first (reasonably) on-time delivery ive had in a long time :)
just a heads up, safari was giving me cheek about downloading the disk image so any mac users with stalled/incomplete downloads should attempt it with firefox instead.

They are working on it, same here.

Also, try not to exit the client, it currently crashes on exit no matter what you do and you need hard reboot. You can not force-quit it either, if you Apple/Tab out. So just let it run, but, she sure as hell eating my CPU I am running activity monitor and my CPU load is at 45% . She only used 606 MB/of 2GB RAM, which is a blessing.

Edit:

Best way to Quit the client at the moment: Command/Tab out of the client, then, Use your Activity Monitor, and then "Force-Quit" the client from the activity monitor, the only way to quit the client w/o hard reboot.

ok, editing this again. switching to windowed mode with cmd-return, as stated below, doesnt seem to get remembered. if you want the client to always launch in windowed mode, navigate to ~library/preferences/eve online preferences/ and open the config file in textedit. in there youll find a line that says "Fullscreen" = "1". just change the 1 to a 0 and save the file and the client will launch in windowed mode each time.

Use Command+enter to go to windowed mode! Then you have access to dock and such and things to force quit it.

Thank You. did not even think about that. Very Happy
It still wont quit for me properly, even with dock access.
Have to use the AM to force quit it.

But the Windowed Mode is good. Much easier access.

Thanks again.

Ironically, I've got Eve working fine in Crossover, no complaints.

What's keeping me in Windows is EveMon. Shocked

OK people. maybe I did not put in in the email clear enough.

You need to wait for the client to get it's status information from Tranquility (Incompatible Protocol) and THEN enter the test server IP and move out of the server box. The client will THEN get the connection information from the test server and you should be able to log in.

We are aware of the Crash on Quit issue and it only applies to the Log in screen on the Mac (we are hoping to get a fix soon) but it was deemed acceptable to continue with that issue.

There is also an image scaling issue with portraits but it is graphical only.

PS I has the Linux clients. Am uploading them as I type ...Very Happy

No joy still.

I start Eve, go into window mode
Wait for Tranquility to display its status (Incompatible (Release))
Change the IP, click outside the box. Status still is Incompatible (Release)
Enter my username/password and hit connect. Error dialogue.

There was an error in the IP Address I gave you.

Updated email sent out with the Correct IP address for the Test Server.

Sorry for the Confusion.
