WINE FIX: Applying the patch from bug to the wine git sources allows logging in with audio enabled.

Unfortunately I now have some font trouble - very small in random places.

I had some problems patching at first, I worked it out tho and even saved all of my settings(!)

This patch is great, you have fixed alot of small (but pretty annoying) bugs like the text spam when doing missions, and given us a new capital ship.

So thank you, thank you for your work on this!

CORRECTION

While Linux is not currently an 'officially' supported Operating System we work with our partner to try to ensure that EVE works with Cedega. Unfortunately most of our efforts recently have been on testing the new officially supported client and other issues crept through.

Trangsgaming are working on a patch for the issue which should solve the problem. Wine users can do the following as a work around : you can disable the sound and voice via the prefs.ini file.

make sure the following lines are in your prefs.ini file

audio=0
audiodriver=0
voiceenabled=0

The last line should be in ALL Linux client pref files as EVE Voice is not currently supported under Linux.

I hope that this answers your questions.

Unfortunately this is NOT the only fatal bug that currently exists. There is a bug in the loading of the lib.ccp and stdlib.ccp libs in the lib directory that has been around a while.

If you do a ls -lU and stdlib.ccp comes BEFORE lib.ccp the client will stallout and silently crash on the splashscreen. The fix for this is to cp lib.ccp to lib2.ccp, lib3.ccp on and on until you get ONE of them to come before stdlib.ccp. I can only theorize that EVE is loading all the libs with a * instead of loading them in a designated order causing this problem OR that they are loaded at different async. and that on slow drives the dependacies get screwed up because one is not totally loaded in before the other references it.

There are multiple threads about this issue, and it has persisted for quite some time now.

Although I applaud CCP for working with cedega to wrap the game so that its playable in linux, I'd much rather see a native game.

The last numbers (from Microsoft) show that only 8% of windows users are currently using Vista and of that 8% some of them have the basic edition that does not not allow DX10. CCP is currently working hard to develop a DX10 client for less than 8% of the playing population. Based on the screaming and moaning on these forums I'd hazard to guess that the linux population for EvE (not in general but for EvE which seems to be higher for some reason) is above 5% and maybe close to 8%.

I'd like to see a poll of somesort to see just how many of us are using linux. (I know there are a ton of us.. jsut look at the cedega forums in the EvE section... and all those people are paying $5.50 a month to use cedega ontop of eve.,.. .that doesn't even include the larger subset of wine people!) Maybe if the percentage is high enough CCP might rethink being stuck in proprietary 3D engine :) (like WoW did).

Trinity 2 (as due to be released late this year) is DirectX 9!!! NOT 10!! This has been repeated a number of times. And this is also an effort to optimize and rework the graphics engine so it makes use of GPU's as currently with EVE your CPU does all the work. The new Graphics engine will improve performance by making better use of the graphics cards people have installed.

Our DirectX 10 Engine is not due till next year (soon tm).

We are also working to provide the wrapped client for the Linux and Mac users because they are an important part of the user base. As for the loading order issues we are continuing to look into it.

I've just noticed a weird bug. Unfortunately its very early in the morning and I can't check through the forums to see if its been reported yet. I want to write down what I'm seeing.

I've been ratting for several hours against Serpentis. I killed a few rats in a system then warped to a gate and cloaked so I could chat to a friend. After 30 minutes I notice the aggression counter was still up. I stayed in place and watched it count down. Somewhere between 9 minutes 59 seconds and 9 minutes even it resets to 15 minutes. No way it will ever go to zero that way.

Has anyone else seen this?

I haven't seen anything about it, but you should submit a bug report regardless of someone else having reported it previously or not. Smile

Cedega has released 6.0.3 as a fix for Linux users on the new Eve Patch....I suppose if I want to play Eve on linux now it will cost me $5 more a month....I've spent half of my mid-week weekend trying to fix Eve instead of playing it. I've used all the forum suggestions, plus some of my own ideas & still get splash & crash every time. This has left me rather salty to say the least. I should have finished sooooooo many missions by now. I'll renew my Eve subscription when Eve has a fully working Linux client, or when a FREE emulator such as wine supports the game entirely.

BTW how can cedega charge a user when it uses wine to run which is free? Kinda shady tactics there.

I've noticed a few problems with the new patch:

1. Some sound effects are repeating. Examples: When you complete a jump into a new system it makes a cloaking sound effect, twice. When you destroy a NPC ship, the sound effect of the ship blowing up is played twice.

2. The warp sound effect is different. When you engage warp, as your ship accelerates, there's a "bang" sound, when you reach 1.0 AU in velocity. This "bang" sound effect is now also played as your ship slows down. Sounds wierd.
EDIT: The "bang" sound effect seems to actually just be another double played sfx, as on longer jumps you hear it in the middle of warp.

3. When approaching stargates or cargo containers, the menu options for "jump" and "open container" no longer automatically enable themselves when you reach the range needed to use them. Additionally, in the case of warping to another stargate, once you exit warp, the 'warp to' button is still active, and you can actually push it and it says 'warping to so and so', though your ship just seems to approach the stargate.
EDIT: This symptom seems to have cleared up on it's own?

4. The warp sound effect volume has been decreased. I know this was in the patch notes as being done, but as a suggestion, make it user-adjustable with a slider in the audio settings? I liked it the way it was before.

5. There's a strange flash when you change to the new solar system after a jump. Sometimes I can see for just an instant the solar system overlay that's shown when you zoom out to solar system level.

Dunno if these issues have already been reported, but there they are.

I've noticef that the when you steal something the aggression timer doesn't show and the person doersn't flash red. I tried it several times with my alt (and no we weren't ganged up) and she never flashed red when i had her steal from one of my cans. This might be a hell of an exploit if it isn't fixed.

Not that this will be looked at here, but I don't know where else to put it.

Why is it that we still get two messages when a tower is in need of fuel for EVERY tower that needs fuel? We only need one message per time slice.

Also, why is it that we can't go browse what we can buy for LP's when we don't have any LP's? Why should it matter, and it's the only way to know if we want to work up LP's with that corp/agent etc...

Anyway, hopefully these will filter into the folks who fix such things.

Hey I'm not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere yet.. I did try to look but didn't see it via search...

One of my corp mates got on and commented that the Mining Laser Upgrades percentages have been toned down drastically.. namely some have gone down to 9% from 20% and 10% to 5%. That's a pretty big change and I am simply a messenger here and he has petitioned in game. Was this in fact the intended change for MLUs and it's now working as intended? Just curious, not here to start a war over it. Thanks.

Thanks for the files :-)

Now it's working.

Thanks too for this patch presence. It was very more profitable for all of us compared to the prevoious patch problems.

Thanks Again,

"Could not connect to the specified address. Odds are that you have not established an internet connection, the server isn't running, or the server address or port number was wrong."

That's odd. :(

Problem remains, even after downloading client, and reinstalling the game.
Help?

**EDIT** Damn this alt! I am Tech Step. :(

Well i have had that problem before my self, but not this time.

But the problem is that you have to remove everything from the EVE folder, and then install EVE from scratch to get it to work, and not just download the whole client and then overwrite everything in the EVE folder, it wont work.

Thanks for the input, but I uninstalled Eve before i reinstalled it, thereby removing the entire Eve folder. Any more ideas? :P

You know, its times like these that a person might wish there was some company that could help with these things. You know, someone who was responsible for this game, maybe even someone who recieved money from my bank account every month.

Ok, SERIOUSLY ccp. SOME inpout would be nice here.

I havent been able to log in since the patch.
I have an active internet connection.
I am not using a router atm, I bypassed that.
I have tried connecting with NO firewall active at all, still didn't work.

Still get the same message.

Was online last night shortly before patch.
Never restarted the eve online client until after they patched
Went back online, all worked for another 7 hours.

THEN, I reboot my computer and all hell broke lose.

1. I am getting random BSODs now, always with the dxgkrnl.sys driver in question.
Its annoying as hell as it is random and there is virtually no way to filter out.
As usual, when some game gets patched and you didnt change a thing on your end, stuff isnt working. So you start to fiddle around...

I. Updated DirectX 9c first thing
II. Updated the display drivers
III. Downloaded and installed outstanding MS KBs for Vista Ultimate
IV. Changed and played with in-game settings, such as resolution, dithering, rendering etc
V. Uninstalled and cleared registry and hardware of ALL CCP related files
VI. Reinstalled Eve, thinking "this has got to be it now" only to get the freaking BlueScreenofDeath after only being ingame for 10 seconds.

So wtf eh?

2. Thankfully I have TWO Vista Ultimate Versions running on my PC (We all know MS cant patch worth a damn either, just like you guys, so to keep my sanity, I keep one Vista about a month behind in updates).

So installed Eve Online on the previously untouched Vista. Guess what.
Didnt work either, same freaking issue. I am kind of running out of resources.
Has anyone else had these BSOD coming and going at will?

We tried doing a trace to you and it times out, there is probably some error on the route between you and the Tranquility server. The Dev I talked to said you should do a "tracert 87.237.38.200" and send the result to your ISP, they should be able to help you sort it out.

However, anyone running the same client for a long time without a reinstall will still have those files available.

The list of the valid files for the /bin/ directory is below. Please remove any extra files you find in this directory. This should resolve your issues. If not, please file a bugreport including a crash dump, logserver file and dxdiag.

My current EVE installation is less than a week old. Yet I have the following differences in \bin after a failed patch due to tut2.stuff corrupted:

/bin/wrap_oal.dll ....... does not exist at all
/bin/win2k/rtcrtp.dll ... is not on your list
/bin/win2k/dxmrtp.dll ... does not exist at all

So where am I now? Shall I delete win2k/rtcrtp.dll and try to patch again?

What about my other two PCs?

I'm having exactly this same problem (as well as 2-3 people that posted after) any comments from dev?

Rev 2.2. patches

Interdictor warp disrupt probes will now prevent warp, even if the warp is already initiated.

Current standard strategy is in many scenarios to initate warp and then drop a bubble and let you mates finish the hostile off. That is gone now
The net effect is, that the interdictor becomes even more a suicide ship than it was before. Fun? i dont think so !

You can no longer generate a cyno field within a Starbase force field.

what is the ******** point of this ?????? the most lame tactics in PvP is bumping. While titan bowling used to be an expoit where supercapitals tried to warp into a hostile POS and bumped out unmanned ships, CCP just reintroduced here the concept "Capital Bowling" in reverse. Fun ? Mabye for the frig pilot that bumps a capital out of range of POS before they enter forcefield... but is it really FUN to use the most lamest tactics to kill the most expensive ships at the cost of nothing ?

opening cynos within forcefields used to be an intended game mechanic for more than what ? 2 years ? Who was so arrogant and decided that it needed to be changed ?

Coupling arrays and other silos no longer reprocess into too many minerals compared to their buy price.

This is the probably the most scathing patch piece within 2.2. While CCP was confronted with a large protest movement from their customers ,when they disclosed their planning for mineral compression of low value minerals, they decided to stealth patch the pricing for it and label a common practice used since inception of the china server and also commonly used on Tranquility to lower the burdens for high volume needs for low priced minerals as an "exploit" thus avoiding the enragement prior disclosing the final patch notes.

Mining is a quite boaring profession in this game, making it more lucrative does not make it more fun. This is a sandbox ! Who are you, that you force people into a certain gameplay by nerfing others.

I feel your examples are the worst reasons to be disappointed:

Interdictor and warp bubbles: so you want total inpunity for interdictors? Warp in, warp out, drop bubble, block other ship from warping but you warp safetly?

Cyno field in POS - I have seen a lot of threads and posts lamenting 0 risk pos refueling and hauling with jumpships. It is not my field of work but it seem a reasonable change.

POS items refining in a larger mineral value than the cost of the item or in a so large mineral quantity to effectively capping mineral prices? For you that is a positive feature? For me it is an exploit as POS modules are NPC produced and sold and the esistence of similar modules is effectively damaging all the mining player activity.

Ugh... you missed each of those points completely.

Nevermind.

Explain how: I cited exactly what you where saying and why I don't concur.

You:
1) want interdictor to drop a bubble and warp away (yes you do that in the reverse order but that is the end result), so essentially you want interdictor to be almost invulnerable when using a weapon that will disable a whole fleet.

2) Want to cyno inside a POS shield, so bringing transport carriers without any risk

3) Want to refine NPC produced items to get minerals at a bargain cost.

So where I misquoted you?

Ah, if you have missed it the copling array and silos mineral content change isn't the "dreaded" 20% malus in refining compression items, it is because those items could be refined and the cost of the mineral in it would cap the tritanium price at 2,2 isk.

All 3 clients were running simulatanously on the differnt machines with the three characters traveling through the same space together. The client on the Vista machines experienced these crashes while the 2 other clients running on XP were fine.

Since there's so much whining and other crap in this thread, I feel the need to say this myself: This patch is great! The changes are awesome, if there's a little trouble in the patch itself, that's OK (we're used to it Very Happy).

I was having a few issues myself, but I cleared my cache using the spiffy new feature and everything's running fantastically for me. I suggest that everyone else who's having weird bugs and crashes do the same.

Ok firstly what is the spiffy new feature your talking about?

And i was wondering if CCP had any plans to sort out the Char Sheet bug....the char sheet on one of my chars is wigging out.....it loads....it does'nt load...when it does load....i cant check anything such as jump clones and augments or even check skills.....the Spaceship Command skill wont show at all sometimes.....PLEASE sort the char sheet out.

It may be a small problem to most people, Instaling the patch was no problem for me...but when i got in to game all these lil weird things kept happening such as the char sheet thing and the double warp sounds and so on.

I dont see why CCP messed around with the char sheet in the first place to be honest....ever heard the saying "If it aint broke, Dont fix it?

Anyway i think a new patch is in order ASAP...this patch is a disaster to most folk it would seem.
