I suggest that all his fights in the future, that the bet be held by a member of RAK for "safe" keeping......

What a total fraud... I guess he is too busy making a new star wars light saber video to defend against his recent actions....

Well, I'm inclined to suspect that this might actually be Curzon's new way of getting attention. Maybe he was, as someone probably living off it, not getting enough yet?

If you're going to do 1v1 for isk, perhaps you need a neutral trusted 3rd party (hmm... I could be of service here).

I could hold the isk while you fight. You two agree to fight - put up the isk - and if you both show and fight properly, the winnings are handed out accordingly.

If you don't show, you lose your isk. That means the person who showed up gets the isk.

If the 1v1 is "dishonored" by the opponent suddenly warping in multiple ships, the offender loses and the isk goes to the lone player.

If both dishonor it, I keep the isk.

If one runs away instead of fighting to the end (I believe if you're going to be as silly as to do 1v1, then have the rule of 2 ships go in, 1 ship comes out), then the person who ran away loses, and the winner gets the isk.

Think of me as the duel referee and holder of the escrow.

Hmmm... potentially another line of work...

Frankly though, I see 1v1 as silly as duels in real life - combat isn't supposed to work that way.

The scenario is this.

I challenged Curzon Dax, both on his Battleship Challenge thread and through Eve-mail, with a wager of 250 mill. Payout, given Curzon Dax's 5:1 odds, would be 1.25 bill. My conditions were that I would be battling in my Myrmidon against Dax's battleship, and second, that the battleship of his choice would not be a NosDomi.

Before the duel, we negotiated that Nos-fitted Dominixes would be ruled out, but battleship-sized Nosferatu would still be allowed. We negotiated, further, a few more conditions.

-No ECM
-Curzon Dax can fire the first shot

In addition, Curzon asked me to up the ante, and I raised the bet to 500 mill. Curzon then, and I quote, saud,

"will you settle for 2.5:1 odds? Let me rephrase. You WILL settle for 2.5:1 odds."

I figured I didn't have a choice, so I accepted. Curzon undocked his ship, we flagged aggro to each other, and warped off to the engagement spot (P5, M1). There were two spectators: boogaboob (who had both of us locked) and TheBinary (who didn't).

I warped into the moon at 0, and find his Scorpion 100km away. He locks me, and I find myself suddenly sensor damped. I MWD towards him. At 30km, I find myself dual webbed (dual officer web) and hit by a rack of Nos. At 24km, I'm scrammed. My cap dies fast, and I'm hitting boosters to keep my MWD up (240m/s). With my MWD active, I gain on him, but the cycle ends and he gains again. It ends with me out of boosters, and him in a 15km orbit around me, plinking me with two torpedo launchers.

With my shields at 50%, he offers surrender to me. I refuse. He tells me he doesn't want to kill my ship, and has only killed 1 in all of his challenges. I tell him that I refuse.

With my armor at 80%, he tries to ransom me for 50 mill. Declares that if I pay him 50m, he'll let my ship live. I refuse, and tell him to fight it to the end.

As I'm 80% into structure, I launch drones, while watching my cap and waiting for the 1 point of cap I need to keep my DCU going. My drones aggro and zoom towards him after a while, and they start chewing at him. He switches targets, hitting my Ogre II with torpedoes (it doesn't work). boogaboob, in a shuttle, confirms that his shields are disappearing, and he warps out with his armor at 75-90%.

I claim a victory. He claims that his Overview was bugged, and that his drone control window was missing though he had drones in his ship. Furthermore, he claims I had an advantage, in that he hasn't undocked in 3 months and barely knows how to fly in space. On these terms, he claims that the fight was not fair.

Though he returned the 500 mill I transferred to him for good faith before the fight, he has yet to pay me the 1.25 billion which was promised before the duel.

Phew! I just woke up. Available for forum trolling for the next 12-15 hours, almost on demand. :)

*sigh*

An unhappy resolution to a fight is never a good thing.

When the fight started, and I went to unleash my drones, my drone menu was missing. My choices were to leave the fight, or fight on.
Since Siren didn't bring out drones, I decided to continue. My drones (5x tech2 mediums and 5x tech2 lights) would have ended the fight 5 minutes earlier, and if necessary, killed your own drones.

I'm not a cheating kind of person - you play poker with me, I've paid out billions before in losing - hell, even General Starscream, whose only acquaintance I have is that he showed up and flamed/bragged on my battleship thread -- took 2 billion from me in one hand of poker. All the ISK was in my wallet, he was playing on good faith. The problem is that a display bug, or whatever happened, resulted in my drones being unusable. Siren, check your EVEmail in a minute for the screenshots.

I can't in good faith declare it a valid fight; sorry. My petition ended in repackaging my ship and getting reimbursed for the insurance. I tried to write this story last night, but about 10 minutes after the fight 0530ish - I got booted from Eve, and the server stopped taking connections. And the forums were 404. Guess it wasn't just me.

*shrugs* Regardless, I will proceed how I feel I must. Sorry that you feel burned Siren. I'd have expected better from you given our history playing poker together; you of all people should know I'm not a cheat. When you selectively posted partial conversation fragments, I lost all sympathy for your plight.

You got 2.5:1 because of the special arrangements you requested. If you want a repeat, in the same ships, with the same fittings, you're welcome to. If I were trying to cheat you, you wouldn't have gotten your ISK back. =p

My mistake was not leaving at the beginning of the fight. When I went looking for my drones and my drone menu was missing....I should have called the fight off. I chose not to, because you made it a non-issue until you were in structure. Given the timeline , if my drones had been available, the fight would already have been over. Trust me, I don't forget drones, and I certainly know where my drone menu is. And my drones nicely eat up other people's drones - I do it every fight.

My intent was to lay this out for a communal decision, but you've preempted my ability to relay the circumstances, in a negative light, distinctively biased, (understandable) but worse....segmented portions of a conversation taken deep out of context.

Sorry - there is no more resolution now than you being refunded your entry fee - which was done last night.

*laughing* Folks, do you REALLY think I'd ruin my reputation for 1.25 billion? My daily gambling (join channel Axe Hold'Em) far exceeds that. =p

So basically what you're saying is you had a problem at the start, you then chose to fight regardless of the problem as you saw fit to carry on - confident you'd win, then when it seems this isnt the case, you want to change the rules around to suit you - going back on your first decision as now it doesnt suit.

You my friend are a joke and a sore loser it seems - proven by your own message.

So you disregarded your "display problem" and continued the fight, instead of saying something at the beginning and maybe getting it fixed before going on?

That was your decision, and one you took responsibility for when you let it go.

Whatever the reason, you chose to continue the fight, and then proceeded to lose. "If I'd had my Drones..." fails to matter at this point, and is nothing but a "what if..."

If the 1.25b that HE WON is like nothing to you, then pay the man.

I told Siren at the beginning that I had a problem. :(

My drones weren't where they should have been. I was cursing myself for having somehow forgotten to put drones on my ship, but when I docked up to fit reppers, they were certainly on my ship. I undocked in disbelief and my drone menu was still missing. At which point I filed a petition.

*shrugs* I've lost before, I've paid before. But I act as my conscience deems that I should; this is why I don't go to lowsec and look for people to yarr. If chatlogs were allowed, it would be much more revealing. :(

RAK, I haven't been back in touch because I haven't heard back from Xyliana yet on scheduling. If you don't care about the fight being broadcast, so be it - easy solution. But Freddy was explicit on that part. Send her an e-mail then. Maybe it will speed things up. :)

Being a gambling man you should understand what happens when u have a bad hand and decide to bluff it.

Except this time you raised. Overview problem or not i understand it is out of your control. but that is the stakes of the game. they don't call it gambling for nothing.
You gambled that you might not have needed your drones(thus continuing the fight) and when u found that you wouldn't win the hand you folded.

Now what you are doing is trying to get your bets back from the dealer..and we all know what happens when that goes down.

It might have been a bug, but you still decided to fight, thus you must deal with those consequences.
