With the contract system and market in game we have decided to close down the trading forums. They were created as a solution to a problem which is now resolved with the contracts system and it is now time to take all trading back in game. These forums have been locked for new threads but you will be able to finish the current trades. The market forums (Sell Orders, Want Ads and Trades, trades and more trades) will be completely removed on Monday two weeks from now, 2007.09.03, giving everyone enough time to finish existing trades. We have also added the Character and Timecode Bazaar forum, which is for selling characters and timecodes only.

Since we now have the CCG website with forums we will be closing down the CCG forums, they will however remain in as read only forums as a form of archive. Instead you will be able to use the CCG website forums to discuss the CCG.

There may be some issues with replying to existing threads in the trade forums, this is caused by caching and should be cleared up in a while.

Update: A alternative to the closed EVE-Online trade forums has been opened by Chribba and can be found on his EVE-Live website in the forum section.

Did you not think it might be a nice idea to post a link to this thread at the top of each forum (Sell, buy, trades) as it took me a while to figure out what was going on.

Also, how do you suggest we go about selling items that can not be contracted? (i.e Motherships)

Also, you say we will be able to finish current trades, but we can not reply in topics already posted?

This should fix itself in the next 30 minutes (or so).

When I closed the forums I did it wrong so it caused them to be completely closed instead of only closed to new topics. Now we're just waiting out the cache timer on the web servers to allow replies again.

Sorry about that.

Seriously? You're closing down the Sell Orders and Want Ads?! Browsing the contract system in-game is just as fun as... well it's not fun at all.

Maybe it's time to open another 3rd party forum for the sell and buy orders...

Edit:

I've put the forums on EVE-Live.com online, they should work I think. Lemme know if that is what is needed, and what needs to be added/removed/updated etc.

Ok, I can see how an argument can be made for things like auctions and sell orders being replaced by contracts. I don't really have a problem with that although I did like browsing the sell order forum from time to time.

But how about services?

My research service gets around half of its business from the sell order forum post (the rest is word of mouth with a few from the Eon ad). I imagine other services are similar.

The contracts does not provide a suitable forum for me to advertise 'can research any BPO you like much faster than empire labs and without you needing to train skills'.

Wrong Wrong Wrong

This is going to cause you big problems

Why would you do this? You have a contract system ingame but the forums have been this way for SO longu can't take them away

its WRONG

Oh and are you going to increase the two week maximum time on contracts, or at least let us renew after two weeks without paying the broker fees again?

How about ways to issue one contract for multiple items the same?

i.e. if I have 10 BPCs for sale then I want to issue one contract where each time someone accepts they get one of the ten BPCs.

Closing down sell orders, the most used forum on this site, is probably going to prove to be a mistake of epic proportions.

How are people going to sell supercaps?
How are people going to advertise services?
How are people going to run auctions of large number of items?
How are people going to express the need for services or items?
How are people going to trade at work?

Contracts are to immature to be a replacement for the functionality and more importantly the flexibility the trade forums offers, which is backed up by the fact it is today still the most used forum on this board.

Proceed at your own risk, CCP.

this is such BS --- the forums for sale orders is part of the fun .... how are people going to sell Motherships in game on the contract system ( hum they cant). And how are people going to advertise that they can build stuff (byom) or research stuff. It makes no sense to close down the forums when so many people use them on a daily basis. There are days i never sign on eve but i do check the forums. I hope and feel you will get alot of bad response over this drastic change.

So market discussions will become one big dump place for super capitals, shares, services and everything else that cannot be contracted?

EPIC FAILSVILLE.

When my corp in empire was selling compressed trit, most of our business came from the sales forum. I mean, who's going to search the contracts for "40,000 passive targeters"? Come on now.

1.) No services (this includes sig creation, teamspeak, mineral compression, pre-ordering BPC's, research corps selling research space, etc) will be sold.
2.) Supercaps can't be contracted.
3.) Plus all that other crap entity said.

Good lord, folks. That ain't the way to go. That's like saying "We have a mall now, so no one can build a store anywhere but the mall".

When Chribba and Entity hop on it this quickly, you should re-evaluate.

Ive seen so many nerfs over the years, but a forum nerf? who would of thought it!

Why not remove the corp and alliance area, theres chat channels in eve, and well with eve voice, who needs them forums!

Seriously... wtf? the contract system is touchy at best, can you imagine the hits on the contract system now in jita? hell if anything you want to be moving contract system out of game, and giving it some kinda web interfact, not the other way around...

Chribba, get them forums ready!

Wow this was not well thought out.

Not against it, if some thought and prep had been put into the decision and game mechanics supported being able to contract any item.
It took players about 3 minutes to shoot 100 holes in this.
Bookmarked for entertaining reading throughout the day.

Good luck today, I think your going to need it.

You can't view the price history of items on contract. So if a rare item has no current contracts, you can't determine how much you should set the price for. With the forums you could search and find the previous auctions etc.

Right. well in that case i think the contract system could use some changes...

Allow ANY and ALL items on contracts. depending on sec status. So i CAN contract Boosters in low-sec or 0.0 (why not in lowsec, it doesnt have police right?)

Make it so i can BID on an auction from anywhere in the universe.

The fun of the trading forums was looking for good deals, reselling, trading illegal items, supercaps, BPO's... Browsing the sell orders forum, buying and selling items are a big part of what i liked to do. Now that has been reduced to updating my contracts and HOPING someone will spot MY contract between the FLOOD of contracts thats going to come.

I do not like this change Sad I think it is unnecesary and once again changes eve to a more complicated, less easy to use game.

bah.

Exactly.....i myself think it's a pain to look in the contract system for BPO's and stuff like that...advertising is also gone and the trade channels will be even more spammed with sh** which could be easily posted in a forum post.

Instead of closing a forum which is VERY used and VERY usefull better stop doing stupid changes and get rid of the Trial system so there won't be that many ISK scammers anymore....all trade channels are full with them most of the day.

Or do other changes which help improve the gameplay as Jita lags as ususal and even with the many new hardware upgrades it's almost no difference....but closing the forums (WTS/WTB) is the biggest joke and error u guys can do....absolute bad....ppl can't check on auctions from work or see what ppl have to sell...i myself can't be bothered to look half a day through the contract system to find good deals or items/BPO's i might want and i guess there and many who think the same....in the forums u can check in 15min all that's new which would take hours of gameplay shuffleing thought the contract system. Shocked

Hope u guys change ur mind but this really sucks!

Big thumb down for this useless change Sad

Add the following;

- what about the supercost when you add items that cost 10 billion or more?
- what about the item offering time limited to 2 weeks only?

We all understand the reason why it was created, and we can even understand that you want to remove it. But you guys have to understand that if you take something away outgame you have to give us something back ingame that at least covers the above mentioned functionality.

Comon guys, just think about it. We cannot make publicity for certain items or services ingame so that's why we did it outgame! Give us space billboards or let us write on the hull of our ships or POS'es, give us a publicity agent...

I hope you guys have thought this through, trimming down the forums is fine and all, but having the contract system take on an increase of roughly 1000% in queries is bound to have an adverse affect on the not so stable but mostly stable dbase. Kind of like what is happening right this moment.

So now instead of just being able to surf forums to buy stuff I have try search contracts for something I want then find out I can't bid/buy it because im in the wrong region. Forums don't care where I am. Also at the moment EVE is laggy half the time now days. Also means we have to use trade channels 90% of time which are spammed 24/7 by ISK sellers.

This is a bad thing. It makes no sense. There is a level of discussion and interaction here on the forums that can never be equaled with the contracts system. The purpose for doing this is to force players to use the contracts system CCP spent money and manpower developing. That is not good decision making and CCPs refusal to even bring it up in the announcement that these forums were closing only serves to advance the idea that it is a bad decision.

I can understand the desire to constrain game activities and try to focus them towards game play, but it is never a good idea to limit player's resources. Trading and contracts are going to suffer as a result of the decision to close down these forums.
