Can you put small guns on a cruiser? Believe it or not, I have a good reason for asking this, I just don't know if you can do it or if only medium guns will go on.

As long as you have the skill to use a module, as well as the grid and CPU to support it, you can put whatever you like on your ships.

Yup, you could, in theory, mount large guns on a cruiser. If you somehow found a way to pump 9000 powergrid into one that is- the general gist is smalls frigate and destroyer, meds cruisers and bc's, large bs, xl capital ships, but any ship can easily mount modules from a lower class, in fact there are sometimes great reasons to do so

some setups rely on putting small t2 guns on a ship which then leaves a lot of grid for a heavy tank

Yeah, that's why I was asking. Not so much for fitting purposes, but because of bonii from skills already learnt. Thank you all.

You can but remember that in most cases the cruiser will have a bonus for medium guns etc, this means if you fit small guns you won't be receiving the ships bonus. It works well enough on ships like the Vexor where people often fit 3 small neutron blaster IIs, allowing a tank, and 2 Medium NOS and seen as a lot of it's damage comes from drones it isn't hindered as much by using small guns.

Downsizing guns can be a very good tactic for several reasons;

- creates more fitting options for a proper tank
- smaller guns track better so for close in fights (and possibly against smaller targets) you gain an advantage
- if your small size guns skills are top notch and your medium size skills suck hard.

lol lieka rifter with large artill.

looks like 3 flying guns with an engine hidden somewhere XD

but yeah using undersized weaponry can be used to your advantage esp if you are hunting smaller targets (better tracking etc)

ive used medium guns on my BS's before when spanking frigs, but wouldnt use them against cruisers. all a question of taste

A friend of mine puts small guns on his vexor. The drones provide most of the dammage anyway, and then he has room for a 1600mm plate. He uses it for low level missions, which are mostly frigs anyway.
