Do people create alt's on the same account or a whole new account? I've heard that a mining and a hauler alt are a great combo, can create an alt on my current account and use them at the same time? do i have to pay again just to haul?

You can't log on to two characters on the same account at the same time, and you also can't train two characters on the same account at the same time, so if you want to use them simultaneously you'll need a second account.

Must be nice to have money for multiple accounts... does it really pay off though? Wouldnt your pc lag to hell and back? or multiple pc's? hmm.. just thought of that.. that's a good idea.

I don't have more than two accounts open at the same time on one system.

I also don't have a life outside of Eve, live in my Mom's basement, drive a Pinto, and wear clothes from the '50's, cut my own hair, and above all else, don't know what a female is for. So I have plenty of money for alt accounts.

I run my two acounts fine on my PC (e6400, 2 gigs ram, 8800GTS). One in a 1920x1090 window, the other in a 1280x1024 window on the second monitor.

It pays off for mining, as your 2nd acount can mine/haul along your first acount.
It's also nice to have a support ship in solo level 4 missions. My second acount comes in after my first acount has obtained all necessary aggros. The 2nd acount not being targeted means it can salvage or support my first acount (repair, inject cap, fight)

Eve is not resource intense, so provided you have an average amount of RAM you can play 2 accounts on the same computer.

1. 2 accounts allows you, for example as a miner, to have one account mining while the other is hauling. This ussually eliminates the problem of ore pirates as the ore is instantly transfered over to the other ships hold.

2. Having a second has advantages in pvp as well for those who can handle it, IE always having a wingman to flank the enemy.

3. a second account can function as a utility account. For example, it being used exclusivly for hauling, probeing, etc while the primary account focuses on the major items such as mining or combat.

Depending on what you doing you can make alot of ISK, so much that you can easyly go to the GTC sub forum and buy game time for one of the accounts, essentially paying for one account to play with two. You will find that having multiple accounts is a fairly common practice in EvE for those who can afford to do it and while they do get an advantage in the game, they are paying an additional 15 dollars a month for that advantage.

I have 6 characters on 2 accounts.

The two mains are actively training and running missions etc.

The secondary alts are all trade accounts - they each have 49 buy/sell orders (using the out of the box skills) and I use these to sell all my loot. I've been mission grinding lately to increase my standings, so I have lots of loot. Once I've finished mission grinding, I'll probably use the other toons for scouting.

At my peak I had 4 accounts that I played at the same time on 2 computers.... I'm down to 2.

Another account really isn't all that expensive if you think about it... it's the same as a pizza, or a trip to the movies with popcorn and coke. I find I get much more entertainment bang for my buck paying for a second account and just cutting a fast food trip out of my budget for the month. And it's making me healthier in the long run.

I have an industrialist char who makes money to support my combat char so I can PVP and don't have to run out to an agent to grind missions when I run low on money.

It's less than 40 a month... That's really not that much. Even if you pay rent and live nearly paycheck to paycheck.

Suggestion: stop playing eve or other games for a short period, invest into learning a skill that's marketable... get job.. resume addiction.

If you have 3 accounts, and pay for all of them by year instead of by month, then the money you save will pay for a 4th account.
At least, that way my rational for my 4th account Laughing

I play 3 accounts regularly. I happen to have 3 'generations' of PC's (I like to keep my old PC's when I 'upgrade') so am able to play eve on 3 discreet computers. I use a program called 'Synergy' to control all 3 from one keyboard/mouse which makes things alot easier. At times I will run 2 instances of the client on one PC if I am using the 3rd for work or other non-EVE activitys.

As for the cost, well you can look at it from different angles. From one, it does seem silly to be paying $45(USD) to play with imaginary spaceships, but on the other, If I was spending that free time going out, I could use up that $45 VERY quickly (heck even just buying gas to pay for the driving around that I would be doing if I wasnt playing EVE would add up to more than $45). So I guess it is all a matter of perception.

LOL I am going to see if I can sneak this past my wife <_<

I could see the usefulness of a 4th account (3 more R&D characters?!)
