ok,

Having a bit of trouble since the Rev2 changeover. EVE Starts normally. I am able to log in normally and select my character normally. EVE begins to load up the station, and I even get to hear a couple background sounds, and then it simply closes back to desktop. No error message, no freeze, it just simply closes.

I have EVE Voice turned off in the Prefs.ini file, and prior to Rev2 I had a nearly perfectly functioning EVE install (some minor and well known graphical glitches, but everything else worked.)

Prior to Rev2 I was using wine 0.9.33, from the main Ubuntu repository. I just recently upgraded to wine 0.9.41 via adding the winehq repository to my sources list and running an apt-get update / apt-get upgrade sequence. Unfortunately, upgrading to a newer version of Wine didn't solve my problem, it was exactly the same as before. Crying or Very sad

I am hesitant to rip the whole thing out and start over simply due to the amount of work it took me to get it working in the first place. Of course, if that is my only remaining choice, I will do what is needed. However I'd like to explore any other possibilities first.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

As far as i noticed, rev2 removed that setting (vivox on/off) at all or just moved it into another place. And my installation runs fine w/o that string in prefs.ini... so i'm pretty sure that your problem in vivox but can't even imagine how to solve it.
Does 'no error message' means that wine doesn't write anything in console on crash?

Hmm. I couldn't say. I don't launch EVE using the console, I made myself a launcher for it. It's neater than using the console, but unfortunately it also means that I don't get any console messages. I can try launching it using the console to see if I get any messages though. Once I get home today I'll try that and let you know.

Yep, already did. I have it on the prefs.ini that's in the main EVE folder, AND I have it on the prefs.ini that is in the fake "windows" user profile I had to create for the Rev2 changes.

EG: (.wine/c_drive\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\settings\prefs.ini)

Unless there is another one somewhere?

Well, that's the old way. Since one of the latest builds (rev 2 or 2.0.1) i don't see voiceenabled=0 in prefs.ini file (eve itself removed it). I still hadn't found way how eve detects if voice if enabled or not (probably, gets info from server).
So, the real situation is (imho) is that you have EVE Voice enabled on crashing account. I dunno if it's possible to disable it... try to find out how. If there's no way to do so - ask ccp.
But that error is obviously caused by vivox. And changes were inside of eve, not wine (you may try to create trial account and see if game crashes or not).

Ah, ok. So it IS vivox then? Alright. I'll take it up with CCP's support staff. I know I tried out vivox on my Windows installed version of EVE, but didn't find it useful and stopped using it. I never formally subscribed to it, but it may remain active on my account. I'll check with CCP's support.

Thanks!

Yeah, it's vivox. I've got absolutely the same error when few months ago patch (rev2 i guess) purged my prefs.ini and its voiceenabled=0.
