well, to follow on from the post i made an hour ago on the new users forum, i woudl like to add my name to the list of tiscali afflicted players. My ISP is Toucansurf, but they use tiscali's servers. I just started playing today and haven't been able to connect at all since being disconnected early this evening.

Unfortunately I can't see myself paying a subscription for this game with an ISP as crap as this. It's just not worth it (much like ringing them to complain, which i have about their service many many times already).

Why, though, does this only seem to happen with Eve? I never had this problem with any other online game.

because of this, the game is now utterly unplayable. Complaining to my ISP (toucansurf via tiscali, which is my problem) is a total and utter waste of time. I'm really posting this to get it out of my system, but there is nothng i can do unless Even leans on Tiscali somehow, because this hopeless shower of losers isn't going to change their appaling policies.
Everytime I contact them they say we will have to get a team leader to call you back (which of course never and has never happened). What a joke.

If I can achieve anything from posting this it's to warn anyone reading this: do NOT sign with Tiscali, ever.Evil or Very MadEvil or Very Mad

I am locked out due to tiscali for the second time in a week. Tiscali actually hung up on me last week when I called them about this issue. And no, I wasnt being abusive, as much as I wanted to be.

Their technical support guys have resorted to saying that it is due to high contention ratios causing too low a speed to connect to game servers. I find that quite odd, as usually ISPs will do anything to avoid admitting that their network is spread too thin, but I suppose that is less of a cardinal sin than preventing free and fair use and thus being in breach of contract.

Edit:
Unless they sort this I will be asking for my MAC code shortly. How can I avoid choosing a new ISP that uses tiscali supplied bandwidth? I dont want to sign a contract only to end up with the same problem.

I really don't know what to do. I've only jsut started the trial version! If it's going to be like this every night then I can't see myself taking it up regularly.

I hope it changes next week. Sometimes these silly fair usage issues (if that's what it is, I tried to get some info from their 'customer service' earlier but it was like pulling teeth) only last a week. If not then I don't know.

I find it absolutely staggering that an ISP can be allowed to run this way, or would actually want to provide so shabby a service.

Haven't been able to connect for 3 hours.

I've read that link and I'm in totally their situation except my isp is only tiscali indirectly (same difference though).

I've tried changing to port 3724 but to no avail.

Talk about frustrating; I was starting to get into this game as well!

From feedback on various ISP ratings sites I gather that tiscali use traffic shaping that blocks a lot of online games. ETQW is another that has the problem. On the ETQW forums they have posted replies from tiscali that are basicly the same as the network migration one they were giving to eve players a while back, but now they say that it will take at least 4 months to fix and they do not guarantee that.

I cant find any complaints about tiscali blocking WoW through googling, yet the port does not work for eve? very strange. Does anyone know how traffic shaping actually works? Is it done soley by port or is it sophisticated to look at your packets and determine what application they serve?

I will be moving as soon as I can, although as other people in the house want to keep their telephony service this may be complicated for me.
This morning I saw an ad for an ISP that prioritises gaming traffic over all others so I'll be going with them once I have it in writing that they do not use the tiscali infrastructure.

This has only just started happening to me recently, from about three weeks ago, after many months of ok service. Same problems as everyone else, disconnections and an inability to stay connected at about 7-8:30PM GMT occasionally a similar problem at about 10AM GMT.

Damn, I was quite happy with tiscali as an ISP until now.

I'm really not going to look back. I mean I'm paying a bit more cos I dont have call's included in my 19.99, I've changed them back to BT.

As for the new ISP... I'm amazed at how good they are. Just serves to highlight Tiscali's lies. Yes speed drops in the evenings as it will with any isp, but as yet I've never seen it drop lower than 2meg. Speeds dropping as low as dial up speed with Tiscali was unacceptable.

Whats more I've got a really decent connection that allows me access to EVE, doesnt drop out its spot on.

Tiscali really are that bad! Why on earth are you still with them?

They did that to me TWICE. I can't believe I fell for the "I'm just going to put you on hold sir" ploy. Now that I'm with BT I look back on my days with Tiscali and shudder.

As every one else I'm having problems with tiscali. Changed my ISP to them thinking im getting a good deal, but as they say "if its to good to be true then......". The only real reason why i have an internet connection is to play eve.

On Saturday i couldnt get online till 10pm thats a whole 10hrs i was tryin for. Now its Sunday ive just been booted. Looks like they have found a work around for the Firewall mask

The support forum staff are, in general, by far the best bet if you want a Tiscali problem sorted out. They get things done, which the telephone support people very rarely manage. I assume with this particular issue, the people responsible for whatever protocol is throttling EVE are either unwilling or unable to do anything about it.

What gets me is that new people to the game, like Mr Lotus above, are very likely to give up their trial accounts if Tiscali is their ISP. If I were at CCP I'd have initiated legal action in a flash, Tiscali are costing them subscribers, end of story.

I'm not saying gaming performance will be fine if you are on FUP or not. I'm trying to ascertain if this is just
affecting a certain category of customers so we can nail down the cause and fix it a lot faster. I do realise that this issue has been ongoing for some time for some of you, but we are trying to ascertain the cause and get a fix in place asap. I will update you as soon as I have further information.

In the interim, please accept my apologies for any inconvenience that this may be causing.

There are terms and conditions to fight against, people signed up to the following having tiscali as their ISP

3.8 With the intention of ensuring our Network performs consistently in all locations across our Network and at all times of the day, we reserve the right to manage internet applications across the Broadband Services at our discretion as we see fit. This may include, but is not limited to, prioritising web traffic and email over file sharing activities during times of high congestion.
---------------------------------------------------
So, whilst watchdog, gadget show and computer mags such as computer active have been tried, seems noones got the b a l l s to actually have a go at Tiscali

The key to this seems to be to frighten every living gamer in the world that their ISP could do a "Tiscali" on them and they would be stuck like we are.
We are looking at the terms and conditions and 28 days notice to quit, however that still does not get the probelm sorted for ones that stay or new people that join.

Whilst we are waiting, it does seem their forum support are at last getting some attention so lots of encouragement is being applied .

Yeah, I've just come away fomr Tiscali, I can confirm if you are a Tiscali customer you will get disconnected at peak times, mainly between the hours of 7-11pm, I've rang their technical team, and they blamed it all on me, the computer, my modem and even said exactly "It sounds like your mouse is faulty and may be causing you not to connect properply", i wish i recorded the conversation. When i did finally cancell i got a call from their Technical Department at the Milton Keynes depot, we spent approx 3 hours trying to rectify it, and they do close port 2600 at certain times of the night (I'm sure its that one)on their London server, they did admit it was problem too technical and would need to be investigated by their Advanced Network Team, they never did contact me back, I obviously used Tiscali thru nmy BT line (2 Meg service) and the problem had been going on for some time, we finally changed to BT Broadband and never had the problem since

After missing an alliance op due to tiscali ***gotry i have been doing some investigating into other ISP's. I contacted www.fast.co.uk i am probably gonna switch to these people, their service is slightly more expensive but i didnt go through to a machine, i phoned their number a English person picked up the phone on the other end, he was polite and knowledgeable.

He gave me all the information i needed, and was well aware of the Tiscali "problem". He advised me to go with pretty much anyone but them because they deliberately block off ports to games such as Eve. As its deliberate and by choice he said he cant see them ever changing unless they lose a crap load of customers.

Get rid of Tiscali, they wont fix this problem and simply dont deserve money for their absolutely terrible customer service. /me is sick of people answering the phone who dont understand english.

edit: i've been with tiscali for about a year and a half, the first 6 months were fine, the last year has been on and off the problem has never been fixed in ONE YEAR. Every time i ordered a mac code and before i used it my internet worked fine again.

What makes it even worse is the fact that theyre blatantly lying to customers faces, you have on their forums someone saying their engineers are looking into it, then you have engineers saying yes we are deliberately blocking these ports. Either tiscali staff are clueless or flat our liars.

Why then am I unable to connect to eve at 4pm today (and I hear it was unavailable yesterday from 5pm, saturday 3pm, sunday 1.30pm)

1) We are not "blocking" the ports, we are managing the bandwidth for certain traffic types.
2) The peak hours you are quoting are for the FUP only. This is not the same thing. Actual network peak times kicks in arround 15:00 when the kiddies get home from school.

I have had a 'spike' in these problems, but I don't know when it started for sure. I have been away for 4 months, so I doubt I'm classed as a 'high use' customer. When I got back 3 weeks ago it was fine for a day or two, but then I began having the 'Server Status Unknown' message come up - or I'd lose connection if I was in game.

Web browsing was fine and I use 2 different PC's, so it wasn't a problem my end. The dramas for me ran from about 19:30 to 22:00. I say 'ran' as I was just coming up to my one year point with Tiscali and based on what I've read here, I jumped ship to a new ISP - looking forward to next Thursday when I get migrated.

As a side effect, although I am on an 'up to 8 meg' connection, several speed tests have had me peaking download at around 900k and it has peaked twice at 1024kbps - before I went away I was getting 4500-5000, so I know the line can take it, but it's interesting that the top speed has been that magic 1024 number twice (and I did measure at all sorts of different times of day).

I would recommend everyone here voting with their feet about Tiscali, but good luck with this if you are stuck there.

Been with "Pipex" for many years without a single problem then all of a sudden this hits me, I spent several days on the phone trying to get them to sort it with no luck. In september I got upgraded to the "Up to 8MG" package (Load of balls never got higher than 2mb) and it turns out that by being upgraded it "renewed" my contract with them! What a load of b******t! I didn't get a single letter or notice about my contract being renewed, so I'm stuck with this pathetic excuse for an ISP till next year. Like hell I'll give them a years worth of subscription due to their own failure at providing an acceptable service. Meeting with my lawyer this week to see if I have the basis for a case against them. I hope no-one else has to go through the trouble I am to make these pencil pushers do their damn job.
