Get your MAC code and leave - it is now the third time this has happened without warning, and all you get is the same BS off their "support" staff about clearing cookies etc.

They don't want to know about fixing it, they don't even pass the info on to their support staff. I've reported the issue more than once, and yet every time I speak to them it's "It must be an isolated case, noone has reported any issues with Tiscali and EVE online."

I am moving to Zen as I hear they actually have some customer service. In fact, I could do without Tiscali's customer service, as it is non-existent anyway, but then they removed the service itself, and didn't want to know.

I got a reply from tiscali after I filed an abuse report (thought this might get their attention)

Preferred: 212.74.112.66
Alternate: 212.74.112.67

6. Click OK -> OK and close the status window.
7. Disconnect from Internet and reconnect again OR restart the computer.

If you have an operating system as Windows XP on your computer, follow the steps given below;

1. Click on 'Start' button.
2. Select the option 'Run' from the list.
3. In the run window that pops up, type in the command "netsh winsock reset catalog".

Restart the Computer and notice if you can connect to the Internet.

## Step 2: Flush DNS ##

Please follow the steps for conducting the trace route tests:

1. Click on the 'Start' button and select 'Run' link from the menu.
2. Type in ‘CMD’ in the Open box and click on the 'OK' button - Command window will open.
3. Now, type 'tracert 212.58.240.111' and hit the Enter key on your key board. A series of results would be displayed.

Please reply to this email with the test results of the steps provided above, so that we can investigate the issue further.

I'm sorry to say that is a standard response and you will next be asked to provide a tracert and some other info.....then wait for ages and get no reponse Evil or Very Mad

This is an interesting comment:

Seems Tiscali have admitted to blocking some games (quake severs also uses port 26000)

Anyway I have given up....going to get my MAC code tommorrow then will go elsewhere....good luck to anyone who remains with them.....although I wouldn't advise anyone to.

I have been with Tiscali for some 4 years i have a personal home account and a business account,a conversation i had with my Tiscali account manager today is that it's not going to be resovled quickly i.e dont give a flying hoot in the scale of problems thay have this is very small with only 19 Eve-online cases logged currently so get logging guys if you are planning on staying with Tiscali... i have cancelled today with them so that's 12k PA they have lost.

Mac code: 5 days Tiscali said and it will be posted and emailed to you lol.... OWW NO YOU DON'T!!!, ask for a manager and tell him your next phone call will be with OFCOM, he will then get your mac code it's generated at a PC in front of the manager, while on the phone with the manager i had a text bing bing one Mac code job done.

The getting MAC code and running is why there are only 19 cases, if they have no customers left from Eve , they have no complaints.
I'm not sure voting with your feet in this instance does anything more than make their problem go away.
If they get away with this, and the traffic shaping in general, how long before other major ISP's follow suit?
Though I do understand the frustration of not being able to play the game, so it is a quick fix. I am told now someone is deff looking at my problem, they have offered me a dialup and a refund for my downtime.

Our Network Team have made some modifications which we believe will resolve the issues with connecting to EVE Online, and should prevent a re-occurrence in the future.
Please could you retest at your earliest convenience and let us know if problems persists so we can investigate further if necessary.

Snaith, I think most of our issue with Tiscali is not the fact that there is a problem, but the fact that they deny there is one, coupled with terrible customer support.

They've had exactly the same issue more than once before, and they denied it then. Eventually their engineer admitted there was an issue and fixed it for me and promised it would never happen again (but it has). Given that they already knew of this issue, it was demoralising to phone up again, and be told it was my problem, noone else had any problem, no such problem had been logged before, we don't support online gaming, etc. It took days of phone calls, explaining the problem probably 50 times to different people to get any solution last time. When the same started again, that was it. I refuse to spend money on woeful customer service and a non-functioning connection, when there are smaller companies who actually deserve my custom.

The excuse that it is all down to migration at exchanges has been going since February. I gave them one last chance after they blocked access in August, they blew it.

Hundreds of their users are complaining - not just EVE players, people can't access newsgroups, p2p software, other games, all because of the same root cause, and yet they're all told "ooh no idea what it could be.."

I do see your points Androsin, I so agree with most, I too have got to the end game with tiscali, I have my ticket, I have my letter to Offcom ready, I've made links to campaigning maagazines , etc etc,
but when we leave they win, so it feels like it to me. They then can continue doing what they want and answerable to none. Then they set the example for other companies to do the same. Anyway, you can't win a one man campaign, and tiscali and Eve customers will all have parted their ways soon enough by looks of it.

I'm using the Your Freedom / VPN solution to work around it, and it fine. My landlord choses my service provider, so if I want to play EvE its the only option I have.

Cost me £7 for a 4mbps connection. EvE runs perfectly.

Which just proves Tiscali is the problem, the VPN uses encrypted packets which Tiscalis traffic management hardware fortunately lets through at full speed.

As mentioned in my post in page 2, Tiscali is using misconfigured traffic management hardware (DPI - Data Packet Inspection) - most traffic management hardware suppliers (ellacoya and sandvine spring to mind amongst many others) regularly update their DPI software which in turn an ISP can download and update their own hardware with.

The common denominator is Tiscali, either get them to sort it or get out of contract with the old 'Your not getting the service your paying for...' argument.

Again, BE or one of the Entanet resellers spring to mind :)

FYI also in case your wondering, I work for a major UK ADSL ISP and use a Virgin Media cable 20Mb instead - shows what I think of my employers network :)

tiscali have for once phoned me,Shockedthey are still working on their network issues, but my service /blocking should be ok from now. They would not say any more than that on the problem. so far no bandwidth drop and still can get into Eve. Very Happy
I gather eclipse users are getting mails, so they may well have cleared up the matter.

There is now a stickied post on the Tiscali forums for people to post eve issues in. This is some sort of progress as it means they are admitting there is an issue rather than the usual nonsence from the phone support poeple claiming to have never heard of on line gaming problems before. So please all add your name to this.

Having had problems connecting to Eve (like so many other tiscali users) i think it has become obvious that Tisacali have no intention of solving the issues that their paying customers are experiencing. Having spoke to the Office of Fair Trading they informed me that Tisacali are in breach of contract and i have now cancelled my account and threatenend legal action under Section 20 of the Consumer Protection Act of 1987 and low and behold i get my Mac code within 30 minutes. I have signed up with another ISP and hopefully will be back onto Eve next week. Anyone else having problems with Tiscali i suggest following the same procedure as myself and sign up with a more reputable provider.
Hope this helps anyone.

Took me a month to figure this out, but any other traffic that's routed through these idiots in Tiscali suffers the same problems. I'm connected through a Sat link and having the exact same issues....and changing ISPs is not an option for me.

The good news- the solution in this thread - (I used the 2nd solution)

seems to solve the problem. Takes a while to log in, but the game itself runs smoothly.
