Band of Brothers ****es me off especially because its not even original, they are just like every other CS or Battlefield asshat child who say the series and got all excited about war. THAT WAS NOT THE POINT OF THE SERIES!

Unless his origin's over 400 years old, he's out of luck and stuck with every person that ever paid attention in high school English Literature class remembering Shakespeare's quote from Henry V:
Quote:
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother;
The shortened quote of which was used as the title of Ambrose's historical account of the 101st Airborne during WWII.

No matter how much PR or how many alts you bring out, you cant argue about the origin of a phrase that is believed to have been first used in 1599 to denote the bond that warriors form during battle. And many will believe its a dishonor to those same men to use such a title in an imaginary internet spaceship game.

I always found English Lit. to be a joke, why waste my time trying to understand what some fruity playwright was trying to convey when their is so many more interesting problems with reality. All this deep thought and interspection on a 400 year old fictional drama is laughable. A better line for the Band of Brothers WW2 series would have been Wilfred Owen's poem "Dulce et Decorum Est", a reality-based interpretation on the horrors and dillusions of war.

If BoB wanted to be deep, they'd have called themselves "morior pro patria" or "to die for fatherland".

Maybe I can name my alliance "I'll be back" and be cool like BoB. Rolling Eyes

Firmus Ixion (sounds cool, even as just FIX)
Curatores Veritatis Alliance
Ushra'Khan
Morsus Mihi (though yeah..it's more like "my bite" than "bite me")

Clearly, I have a soft-spot for RP alliances since my last three are well-known RPers ( Razz )

BoB
RA
FIX
IRON

All those 4 still have a reasonable member count and their own 0.0 territory. None of the other alliances on that map still have that as far as I know.

The CVA was established before BoB started holding territory, and now it's the dominant power in Providence.

In no particular order:

1. Curatores Veritatis Alliance
2. Electus Matari
3. Lotka Volterra
4. Novus Ordos Seclorum
5. Mercenary Coalition

I may misuse the tool, but you none the less understand what I mean. Many of the grammatical and tense rules in English are inefficient, at best. I still prefer my spacial and mathematical skills over my language skills, even though I scored higher in language courses in highschool.

In terms of the overall, the rewards for "harder-to-master" skillsets well outweights the annoyance of the critiquing. This is why the highest paid positions in society are heavily based in mathematics.

There's no need to talk about the superiority of math over English, but facts are facts: "Band of brothers" is a specific phrase in the English language with a meaning over 400 years old. And join a real corp. Wink

i always favored alliances and corps whos names sounds like they came from latin or languages alike. so my list doesnt have any #1, all of them got very good names.

Veritas Immortalis

Lotka Voltera

Triumvirate

Firmus Ixion

other than those, some already mentioned good names:

THE FIVE

CoW(Cult of War)

YouWhat

Goonswarm (makes me think of a bee-swarm, witch are their intention :D)

Infinitus Odium (no alliance, but cool name non-the-less)

BluOrange
Gallente
The OZ Hunters and Mercenary Association

I like alliance names that communicate some meaning. Leaving aside my own alliance name, that gives us:

1) Goonswarm. They are a swarm of goons, I don't think anyone would deny that.
2) Mercenary Coalition. Not only a coalition of mercenaries, but the most famous and probably the most powerful mercenary organization in EVE.
3) Ivy League/EVE University. From what I understand, you not only get classes, but that whole wacky 'University life' experience with the bizarre games and insane random enthusiasm for... stuff.
