I just bought my first cruiser on my trial account (yeah, I know -- overkill), and I am looking through the Ship/Module guides in the other forum. Figured I'd ask this here, as I saw the slang disambiguation thread in here earlier.

WHAT is an RMR ship setup? I understand what ratting, PVP/Solo, etc. are, but RMR?

Thanks,
Mos Superum

[RMR] setups are setups that were made for the content expansion Red Moon Rising. Those may be out of date, depending on whether anything the setup used was affected by any changes since then. What you're looking for now are [REV] setups, which were made after the Revelations content expansion.

Ouch. That'd be like 2 years old. OK. Thanks! I wasn't paying attention to the dates on the posts.

Are there any NON-Eve-forum ship fitting guides floating around out there?

You could check out this site lots of ship info, and general eve-related chat as well

Well, scrapheap-challenge is mostly about Minmatar ships, but you might find some other setups from there as well.

And, let me guess: you used the EVE www-page search (top right), right? It's known to not-to sort by latest articles first :D

Check the Ships & Modules' channels (EVE-O forums) Ship Setups Index - Updated 29 June 2007. Should have lot's of latest setups, nicely indexed and linked.

I hate to burst your bubble, but even if you can afford the skills book and the battlecruiser, you can't train the battlecruiser skill on a trial account. You might be better off directing your skills training towards being able to fly the smaller ships better - i.e being able to tank damage.

And bigger is definately not better if you lack the support skills that keep the ship flying.

Actually, I went to ships/modules and found that thread. That's where I found the RMR setups and ended up asking about 'em. I noticed that it got updated on Saturday/Sunday with new info...? Anyway -- I'm getting my Vexor equipped (switching BACK to small 150s vs. medium 150s -- can' track up close) and continuing to enjoy the trial.

BTW -- thanks to all who chimed in here. I feared this place would be noob unfriendly, but really -- even SirMolle is cool (I saw the Swede's BBQ invite in one of the other threads). ;)

I was more interested in whether I could do it than in how effective it would be. I figured I'd rely on my new Thrasher for cash anyway. And I figured I'd fight any non-rats in Rifters. All I really need I believe as far as skills would be about 2 days and 8 hours to get Spaceship Command to 4, BC 1, finish Cruisers 3, and get Medium Turret 1-3. But I'd still probably need the better part of 20m more cash within about 5 days. Doable, but not easy.

As for support skills I've been training a lot of low ranks in hordes of skills for ship equipment, navigation, gunnery, etc. I don't see I absolutely NEED much more for small ships, unless I was to get into an Assault ship really fast. And I've also got Salvaging under training atm and besides that and a bit more social and connections I don't think I need too much right now for ratting cash. Maybe I could better use the money on implants? But I'm not sure if I am going to die soon and haven't seen first hand how clones and jump clones work. Right now I've got 7 points of implant upgrades anyway which I think isn't bad at this point.

Besides, aren't lvl 2 missions basically for Cruisers which would make BC's really nice to have when moving to lvl 2 missions?

Not doable. Not in theory, not in practice. The BC skill can't be trained on trial accounts.
