I probably haven't played for 18 months or so. I bought a load of credits back then, I'll have to dig my login and password out. No idea whatsoever what I played as!

Cant go wrong with Baldurs Gate II, its probably the best game ive ever played imo. I havent played it in quite a while unfortunatly, its just too epic for me to install and only be able to play a few hours a day.

Some older Deathmatch games prehaps?
Quake III and Unreal Tournament the original one for example, they are great games if you want to just unleash some carnage for a few hours.
I play some Max Payne and Deus Ex to satisfy my urge to play a more meaningful shooter.

Silent Hunter 3.

Picture yourself stalking a British convoy, taking sightings, plotting its course, identifying targets, planning an approach, sneaking away, hurrying past, positioning yourself, spending a good while doubting the accuracy of your calculations while you nervously wait for the convoy to catch up, lining up your shots when it does, firing all your torpedoes and then making yourself scarce before they hit while you listen to the ticking of your chronometer. Hours of work (if you're meticulous) for a couple of bangs (if you're lucky) or a lot bangs and skull-splitting pings (if you're not so lucky).

If that doesn't sound like fun to you then... errr, then you're just like everyone I know.
Never mind then.

(I know SH4 has been out a for while but I want none of it since 1. Ubi abandoned SH3 way too early and 2. Atlantic > Pacific)

Baldur's Gate 2 all the way. The best are the NPCs and their interactions, really brings the game to life.

Looks back through games cabinet ...

Max Payne
Operation Flashpoint
Soldier Of Fortune
Kingpin - Life Of Crime
Gunman Chronicles

I've just reminded myself how little I've played some of these games. I feel a mass re-install session coming on, especially as on my current PC I'll easily be able to run them all at max detail settings.

.. hope they don't try to install DirectX 3 or anything deranged! Shocked

I owned thief a long time ago. My first disk received a major scratch so I had to buy a new one later on. That second disk was corrupted as it stole all of my desktop icons!

Oblivion with the OOO mod...

Or Morrowind if you have never played it...

Morrowind kept me busy for 4 years... Longest lasting single player game I ever played...

And I'm not someone who likes fantasy games, but those are the best IMO...

Minsc for the win.

I honestly preferred the first Baldur's Gate though. I still haven't completed the second one. Too many dungeons. The original had far more outdoor areas which I enjoy more that claustrophobic dungeons. Minsc was funnier in the first than the second game too, although the party interaction in the second is better. Aerie annoys the hell out of me though.

Anyways, games I recommend are Fallout 1 & 2, Deus Ex, Max Payne 2, Fable (PC Version). Seeing as you're fed up with 4X games I can't recommend Civ IV (I haven't played it nearly as much as I played Civ 3, which I played to death many times over).

Dark Omen (though it doesn't look so great on more modern systems).

Same. Whiney pain in the arse.
My main character was a bloke and had the romance arc going with Jaheira and Aerie...Some of Jaheira's snippy comments at Aerie were priceless Very Happy Every now and then she'd take a verbal swipe at her, was incredibly entertaining Razz

Yeah DS, you should definately try BG2 - purely for the party interactions, but it's a good game in it's own right too. It's somewhat dated now, the more modern ones being Neverwinter Nights and Neverwinter Nights 2, though they lack the interactions Sad (or 1 does, haven't tried NWN2)

Very fun free game with multiple storylines, dozens of shiptypes and lots of things blowing up. Kind of old but still awesome.

Do you utilize Mods to extend game play, or just run through the games, beat them and never go back?

There are so many Morrowind Mods it's ridiculous...

Planescape Torment

Very good story driven rpg

Im in the same sort of rut, not sure what i want to play, in last 3 days i have installed Pirates!, HL2, Civ4, Vampire: Bloodlines, Alpha Centauri and Diablo 2 as well as command and conquer 3 for a lan with a friend.

Nothing has stuck (tho tomorrow I will prob go back to Vampire and try finish it. Still have Games of BG2 and Fallout 2 to complete to

And farcry...

Actually I cant remember last time i completed a game, HL2/Max Payne/Planescape all spring to mind...but they were years ago. Unless a couple of campaigns in medieval count...

Anyway Planescape torment for rpg goodness.

For some space action try:

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident
Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos
Homeworld 2

Played them, didn't like IW2 because it was nearly impossible to play even with an extremely complicated keyboard control setup, since it didn't have mouse support.

I don't even see how you could play it with one joystick, let alone none!
