there has to be a better way then just jettising the items into space or letting my friend just board the ship.

I don't know how much/if any of this will work if you are on a trial account. On a paid account this all works though.

Well if you trust the person and you're both logged on and docked at at the same station, it's easy: right-click their name (find them under the Guests tab on the right) and select Trade. Drag the stuff over, and when you like the exchange of items, hit the accept button and wait for your friend to do the same.

If you're not both logged on, hit the Contracts button on the left. Make an Item Exchange contract, and make sure to make it private and MAKE SURE you get your friend's name right. Simply put up the trade you wish to propose, and create the contract.

Trading under trial account dose work, and is much better / safer than duming / jetting in space

Station trading is the easiest.

On paid accounts you can create a contract (just 1 with base skills) and that can include up to 100 items and money. Which then sits around for a predefined (by the creator) number of days waiting for someone (can be a specific someone, or a public someone) to accept it.

It's also, since you can create these public contracts, a decent way to sell bundled items. Although people usually just check the market rather than contracts.
