about accidently overheating modules in teh heat of battle

Below the modules there is this little arrow that shows options if you hover above it. Under options is the option to toggle the possibility of overheating modules off ' lock overload status' its called.

If you can't find it let me know and I will go to ms Paint and take a screenie for you.

Are you deliberately mocking me? Nice way you treat customers. :(

I can almost promise you that Eris didnt mean it that way... you probably know she didnt too, so dont take it so seriously. :)

What really needs to be done is simple: hire an Usability Engineer. It's known fact that coders can't figure out usable UIs. :)

This a major problem and needs a quick fix, even if it is a simple change to the brightness/frequency of the activation colour.

A idea could be if they made the buttons customisable, so that you could choose ur own colors from a preset list . That would make u optimise ur colors to what ever system it is u live or fight in.
The feature is allready there for the main interface, why not for the buttons as well?

I don't know what everyone's problem with the green active modules is. I can see prefectly flashing on and off mods, at all times in all backgrounds. To me it is not at all different than the old UI, I even consider this better.

And of course, because you can see it, then there must be no problem.

I am not color blind (far from it), yet in many cases I can't see if the gun is active or not. Even worse, in many situations (especially during missions, with crazy backgrounds), it's hard to see if gun deactivated (yeah - red blinky-blinky isn't visible too often) after rat popped, and if I can shoot with it again.

If it's ok for you, what's the point of posting anyway? If it's ok like this, it will be even more ok when more contrast is added.

All people I know in real life who play EVE have the same problem with seeing if mods are active or not. Then again, we are all over 30, so we can probably blame the "age" factor Laughing

It is, at least, a demonstrable fact that CCP coders can't figure out useable UIs.

how bout a graphic, like a bar, color wouldn't matter and when the module is active it overlays a bar across the module. I mean it would probably also take less processing cycles than the weak fade in/fade out

in every military vessel i've been on, not just combat, you KNOW when something is on. some things didn't even use lights. they used little windows with black and yellow striped "barber poles"

i work in an industrial setting, and once again. you KNOW when something is on. there is no ambiguity about it.

traffic signals across the united states are standardized with red either at the top or on the left. again no ambiguity. you would think in 4000+ years this concept would be universally known.

being pretty doesn't matter in combat. high contrast, unambigous markings so people know this thing is either
"F-ing on" of "F-ing off" is what matters.

CCP should stop ****ing around all the time.

Heat, constellation sov, etc.

Waste of time.

for you... this has to be one of the better patches CCP has done, it has some very nice features.. Not everything can be perfect or to everyones taste.
Im sure CCP will see the thread and look into the issue.

I am not colour blind.
I do not want to suffer a ui that has been optimised for the colour blind. (255,0,255 anyone?)

I realise that I am not allowed to say this in the politically correct world in which we live.
But we're well on our way to "Genetically Unafflicted" being recognised as a social disability these days.
That's why everybody in internet chatrooms "has cancer".

I would like to see the overheat button moved beside the ususal Module Button,
just a smaller round button red flashing when overhearting in about 1 1/2 AM Position to the normal button, then you could spot more easiely which modules are overheated or not.

I can't speak for someone colorblind and I'll go as far as saying it'd be nice to help those who are, out.

Gaven Blands: Politically correct my *bleep*...if people can't have a normal discussion about this sort of issue and a possible solution without accepting the simple fact that: BEING COLORBLIND IS A DISABILITY! MEANS YOU HAVE GENETICALLY INFERIOR VISION! I mean..it's not a crime, it's not bad, it doesn't make you worth less, nor does it make anyone look down on you.

It's a simple fact of life, and if the colorblind are THAT insecure about their disability, then that's their problem isn't it?
A few of my good friends are colorblind, so what? sheesh.

I agree though that perhaps something could be done to ease things off for them Smile

However, for those of you who aren't colorblind, you spend way too much time staring and thinking too much about whether or not you can actually see if a module is active or not.
I don't think about it, and I just know when a module is on or not...not sure why you made yourself blind by thinking so much about it.

I'm red/blue color blind and have a very hard time seeing them as well. Those that are wondering why you need to know if a module is active or not after you hit the button, have you ever experienced lag in Eve. Lag is one of the biggest reasons why modules don't activate when you hit the button. It would be nice in a fleet battle to know if your modules are firing or not without hovering over all of them.

I cant see them very well either and i am not color blind. I tried a friendly test tank yesterday and i had a hard time figuring out which modules were on or off. In battle it will be much worst since i at least i am not as calm as out of it Wink

For those that are saying this... one simple fact comes to mind. Try hitting several F keys at once (in order to fire several guns at once), many times only a few activate. Now tell me how you can "remember" the ones that are on or of? And this is just one of many examples.

Don't get why some people insist on trying to look smart and don't even have the intelligence to consider all the facts Confused

I'd like to add that:

* I'm not color blind

* I don't see any reason why we cannot have an UI with good usability / visibility. If CCP can't make a good UI (as in *useable*) and combine it with eyecandy, they should try harder or put the eyecandy 2nd ...

Let me ask like this: what are the advantages of the new blinking modules over the old green modules? Are there any at all?

Here's another one. All the buttons are now bigger. If you're using a small screen and have (for example) your cloak on the button to the right and have someone in your address book log on you can't see the button and thus not activate the module. Almost cost me a Falcon.

I'm not coloutblind but I don't like the new buttons either. Way to hard to spot which ones are on and which ones aren't.

Compliance with Microsoft Vista requirements?

Not that it looks any nicer, tbh - I prefer the old style. Bells and whistles and kitchensink and fading and glowing and shadows != better looking.

Can but agree with the thread-starter, this derives alot pleasure from EvE-gameplay post-patch, quite sad since the rest of the stuff would have improved it alot otherwise.

/signed, also the part on the really really really really really really (yes, they are really THAT small) buttons for heat! It becomes even worse (such that I don't know where to click anymore) when the loaded ammo occludes them.

Sad to have to agree with a terrorist Wink, but yea the size of the buttons deserves alot of whine too!!!!
