I'm debating whether I should do the top Q17 level 4 agent in Caldari Navy, who is in a .4 lowsec system, versus a Q18 agent in a 0.5 system. I understand that agents in lower security give considerably better rewards, however it seems obvious for pirates to hunt in that system.

So, does the home system of the Q17 L4 agent from Caldari Navy receive much harassment? Is the increased LP reward not worth the bother of dodging scan probes and gank attempts?

In a short answer: No

In a longer version: Depends a bit on your skills and available equipment for the job. If you fly just regular raven with just t2 eq anyway and manage to find spot in low sec where nobody harasses you in approx 3 jump radius around it it might be better. If you have acsess to faction equipment/ship or your local low sec is not quiet you will earn better isk/hour in low end high sec (sec 0.5 qood quality agent).

I would not change as I cannot imagine the LP point difference between .4 and .5 is that much.

I tried 0.0 and it was worth it. But that's a different use case.

Generally no, unless it's a rare lowsec agent that's in insolated lowsec.

You will earn more isk/lp however if there's a camp on the gates you won't be able to run missions (unless you have a ship in every system you can just shuttle to). There's also the risk of getting scanned down.

Caldari Navy agents (being so popular) would most likely be camped.

Difference in LP between similar quality agents in sec 0.4 and sec 0.5 is approx 1000 LP points. Mission rewards are approx 200 k different (with bonus awards) and bounties are same from 1.0 down to 0.0.

As for 0.0 - those are worth it. Mainly bcos pirate faction LP is worth as mutch as 2x .. 3x more than empire faction LP. Well if you know the ropes ofcource and are on friendly basis with locals.

If you really need to run missions in low sec aim for 0.1 or 0.2 system with average quality agent. Do not press for best agents in low sec as running missions there is russian roulette. Due to amount of missionrunners pirates just scan for them in there and altho possibility of getting someone in deadspace is low it is there and sooner or later your number will come up.

Use your starmap to check for ship/podkills over the last 24 hours in the system and surrounding systems over a decent period like a week or so before deciding to go there.

Aside from that use common sense. In risk vs reward your probably better going either 0.5sec or 0.0 depending on who you know.

You're better off with a lower quality agent in a 0.1 ; if you're going lowsec anyway, might as well maximize your gains.

Other than that, the 0.5 sec agent gives quite decent LP, but it's a LAGFEST there... the former dark triangle of Aramachi-Motsu-Saila (now Laah was added).
Why people were also using the Motsu agent instead of the Aramachi one, I'll never know. Pays a lot worse.

I bailed out of Aramachi months ago, it was becoming unbearable.
Now I'm hanging around Abagawa/Ikami, but it's starting to get a bit TOO crowded over here too.
Plus, it's in the same region as Jita, so the market is deserted other than what's IN Jita.
At least in the "former lagcentral triangle" (yes, it's even laggier as Jita sometimes) there's a decent market in Motsu.

There is one 0.1 system in Amarr space that is populated with anti-pirate corp and has loads of 4/20 agents. Its fairly safe there.

So for 0.0 agents, what seems to be good? I know only of Syndicate(Serpenties), Curse(Angels), Venal(Guristas), and Stain(Sansha). I don't remember where the amarr ones are.

What is the max LP like for 0.0 agents? (including all skills maxed). I know the faction ship bpcs pay MUCH better, but do they cost more, or are they harder to obtain?

Plus, are the missions harder than in empire, or do they rate the same?

Thank you so much for all the replies. ugh

Low sec agents does worth it. (I am doing low sec missions almost for 2 years) And the difference in LP and standing rise is enormous actually almost 2x more Lp in low sec, but not between 0.5 and 0.4. Find 0.2 - 0.1 spot instead.

And by the way, there are Caldari L4 agents in 0.0 space, in case you guys missed that.
Just look around in Syndicate on the map.
