Something thats been driving me crazy for ages. And I know it's directly related to Sisi.
The initial map rotation/position/orientation when you open it, in "free move mode".

If you look at the Territorial Map
or use the "Flatten Map" you get the same layout/position/orientation.

However - whenever you initially open tha map in "movable" mode, it's on it's head/the "wrong" way. South is north, left is right etc ....
Ppl with chars in eve has been accustomed to the "flattened orientation" since start.

Question
Why isn't the map initially starting in this orientation with the "free move" way?

Can we have a fix please? (I assume it's not a bug, rather an oversight).

I haven't been on SiSi lately so forgive me if im totally off here but i know the map has been annoying many people for ages as you say

Since they added that seemless zoom map thing, the initial postition of the map depends on how you were looking at the ship.

In theory thats no problem, except they got it upside down. If you look from the top of your ship, its not the top of the map (compared to the flattened view or the map browser)

If you imagin a street map, your looking down from above, like an aerial photo. In eve the system map is (now) based from the "underside" of your ship, even this wouldn't be a problem if you could rotate the map around a full 360 (or more) degrees instead of the 180 degrees its limited to now. This is ofcourse because the map camera is now linked to your normal ship camera and has to operate the same way.

I'm assuming it was an accident and assuming its a lot of work to fix, or they would have done it already

Is this what you mean?

Ah, yes. But honestly, to mee it's always felt like the map inital orientation has been upside down + mirrored.
But as you say, it might be how the view is oriented on your ship - which sets the initial orientation.

Nevertheless - I've never opened the map while I was staring at my ship "upside down". So it feels just so wrong when you *always* have to flip the map to look at it correctly.

Secondly - when you have flipped it - further rotaion/flipping is blocked. You can't rotate after you've flipped it 180 degrees. Builtin blocking mechanism, just like with the ships in space.

*Annoying*

EDIT: Can it really be that hard to "hardcode" the initial viewing-coordinates?
Static ... or atleast add 180 degrees to the values that's being copied from the ship-camera (if thats the method being used).

To me, thats the real killer, I never used the map in flattened mode, I have always used it in full 3d mode. Mainly because the immurukka constilation is a saucepan shaped goup of stars but its parallel to the camera so then end up on top each other...

Anyway, when they changed it in revelations it hit me hard, I don't know of anyone else who uses the map in 3d mode all the time though. Just being able to freely rotate around the map would remove a lot of frustration.

As for the north not always being at the top of the screen (I understand what you mean now), well thats not so muck of a big deal for me. I know the map well enought to rotate it around so "north" is up, once I flipped the map up the right way that is Smile

An "Adjust orientaion on open" tickbox would be nice

As an interesting side note, have you noticed you can use ctrl + mouse scroll to bring up the map?

I've tried much CTRL'ing, but that's a new one for me. I'll try it next time I log in :) Cheers :)
