Let's be honest, the Astarte is a sexy beast Cool, the mega just not quite as cool looking.

We know they both need a blaster setup for pvp. But what do people think - does the astarte do enough extra damage and/or tank so much better that it's worth the 40m or so extra in price tag?

All views would be good before i go and spend my hard earned cash on the astarte...

Thanks..

I've been flying the Astarte for a few months now and I love it. I used to fly an Absolution which in my opinion had a better tank due to the increased cap ammount but the Astarte just kicks ass. It has quite a nice tank for a blastership and with Ion T2s and Void M it's dps is nothing to be sneered at. It also has the added bonus of high base resists if you get nosed dry and greater agility and speed over a thron.

The setup I use (I think) is:

7x Heavy Ion T2
MWD, 20km scram, web, Cap injector T2
2x T2 Med Reps, Explosive T2, 2x EANM T2, DCU T2
or
2x T2 Med Reps, Explosive T2, DCU T2, 2x MagStab T2

5x Valkyrie T2

I think they are fairly equal in terms of dps and tank, with the mega maybe coming out slightly on top. The main advantage the mega has is in raw HP and in cap, wheras the astarte is faster and has better tracking.

Don't forget, however, that the 'extra 40 mil' or so it costs is not where you are spending your money. You will recoup most of your ship costs with insurance on the Mega, however you are only going to get about 1/3 of it back from the Astarte.

Im training for an Eos right now, actually going through gallente cruiser 5 and all the gunnery even though I can fly minmatar commands right now.

Reason being is the nice blaster DPS and ALL THAT DRONE SPACE!!!

Fit a huge tank on there, two gang assists, and still have the drones raising the DPS of hte 5 blasters up over 500 (or more).

It gets a hell yea from me.

I'm pretty sure the mega would win because he would have nos.

Mmmm thats a good point but you also have to look at the fact that most Astarte fittings ive seen use t2 medium ions while most Mega set-ups use neutrons. The Mega will have way more range...if you care to even look at blaster range anyways Laughing

The Astarte tends to be the better all around ship. It has wicked damage, better resist, roughly the same HP and way more diversity than a mega.

Also, baring losing ships on a daily basis, insurance isn't really worth the payout. Only people who really need insurance are those who fly the same ship constantly rather than multiple ships frequently.

1 Nos on a mega won't kill an Astarte.

You have a strange definition of 'roughly the same'...

Megathron: 7500 structure/6641 armour/6211 shield
Astarte: 4805 structure/4324 armour/3844 shield

i.e 56% more structure, 53% more armour, 62% more shield.

If by diversity you meant manoeuvrability then fair point, the Megathron however has 2 more slots and more scope for rigging, allowing for more diversity of setups...

megas i have come across use all types of blasters. if any then i'd say mostly ions.

also with the falloff bonus the astarte gets, a mega will never be able to dictate range on it to it's advantage. also most ppl who fly astartes that i know use neutrons as i do because with only 1 pg rig u can fit a full rack of them.

I think he means that if you add the natural resists the hp is about the same on armor and shield.

I believe you can get more dps if you put in a damage hybrid rig with full 7x ion t2s then a powergrid rig and 7x neutrons.

*sigh*

The Megathron is going to keep 1 heavy nos on the Astarte the entire time, while running his dual reps. Astarte dies once the cap charges are gone because it can only hold like 8.
