I know that money rule the world but Iím sick of money ruling EvE. I canít say Iím a veteran player but ever since I started playing eve, all Iíve seen is complaining and crying. This is not a kids game. Itís suppose to be hard, itís suppose to have winnersí and losersí. Itís normal that some ppl have an advantage, itís why itís the best MMORPG game. I hate to see EvE reduced to walking in stations and doing missions Ö wtf pvp is what made eve EvE. What is with all these marketing decisions that are above game ideas and concepts. I know you want to attract new players but going cartoon network on as isnít the way. Every time a new player enters low sec and getís his ass handed to him in a plastic bag, another thread/petition/nerf is upon us all.

Walking in stations seems like a giant un-necessary waste of time whilst other pressing issues are around - lag anyone?

THAT I agree with 100%. These resources would be better spent focusing on bug fixes at the moment. After the big ones are fixed they should redirect back to content. Doing both at the same time on such a massive scale is self defeating.

I just want the new client tbh. if everybody working on new projects for the current client got moved to the new client or fired and replaced on the payroll by people who work on the new client I'd be happy.

Yes, I still tell myself the new client is our modern day holy grail - the infallible essence of perfection on a hard disk.

Yes, I am very naive.

(I hope the new client runs the forums too, had to log in 6 times to post this, two times after hitting Post Reply :\ )

First, "Walk in Station" or "Ambulation" is not the same as turning a game into WoW.

Second, how can a game turn into a kids game just because you now can walk in addition to fly? I love EVE! But I have to say I miss to have a personified character from time to time. If nothing else for the social part of it!

Third, it might be possible to "walk around in stations doing missions" but that does not remove the possibility of flying around and doing missions - or for that sake: PvP!

Fourth. Money rule the world. And yes, it decides if the game survives or dies. A company with over 100 employees need to money to pay salaries. But the history of CCP have showen a company that keeps true to the red thread that follows EVE, but at the same time, they cant be afraid of adding new features. Additions are good mostly. Just as long as other features in the game are not too much inflicted from it.

Dont fear additions for the sake of it! CCP have said they will take this cool, and add part by part. First you will be able to socialize only. Visit bars and hang around with your local buddies from your corps. See your local agents etc. But later on... Think of terraforming planets. Trying to establish a basis for life on it. Trade. And ofcource wars. Just as long ccp steers clear of the FPS genre... I loathe that one!!

Anyway, I think CCP have through history proven themselves to be worthy game makers. And if they keep true to their Game, and listen to their playerbase for advice along the way - as they usually do - I cant see Walk in Station to be something that will ruin the game!

I just want to point out how irritating it is to -still- have people posting on the forums about how the people doing ambulation should be doing bug fixing.

People, if you're going to suggest things, follow what is said hundreds of times over. New content people are not bug fixing people. Thanks.

What the guy above said.

Ambulation people are <here> and the people fixing bugs, doing other stuff are <here>.

Ambulation people were hired for AMBULATION purposes.

They are probably not even part of the EVE team, more of the whitewolf team.

It's a free, non resource eating, addon to EVE that is well overdue, so shut it allready Very Happy

And about money ruling EVE...what on earth are you talking about? You're sick of money ruling EVE 'cause kids whine? ugh

Eventually, CCP and Whitewolf will come out with another MMORPG.

I'd be willing to bet that the ambulation team is the beginning of the group that will create this game, and ambulation will be a way to test certain things in a real world environment without affecting the gameplay of eve.

I think walking in stations will be great.
I spend a good deal of time in stations buying and selling stuff, or sometimes just chatting when I am too busy multitasking with work stuff to be able to devote my full attention to combat. So this will add a new dimension to things and be fun.

While I fully agree that walking in stations is the biggest waste of time CCP has ever attempted in EVE, I really don't see how any of the changes in recent updates has limited PvP.

....unless of.c. one think of PvP as 'Killing people in high-sec who don't want and don't know how to fight' (Privateers being a good example of these). Rolling Eyes

True, there's a lot of whining going on, but that's hardly something new, humans being what they are.... and CCP are pretty immune to whinings about 0.0 PvP.

There's been NO limitations of PvP in 0.0, and low-sec has only had a marginal limitation which is warp-to-zero (marginal because every1 + dog used instas anyway).
I'd even say that with things like logoffski nerfs (oh, how certain alliances must have cried...) etc., CCP has and are improved PvP a lot.
They're also improving high-sec content, but I have no problem with that. Even the most sturdy carebear tends to start PvP'ing eventually...

I've never understood why people on these forums hate wow so much. Its a great game with a lot of great people playing it. I played it for almost two years in a top raiding guild. Only reason I quit was because I didn't have enough free time to keep up with a top guild raiding schedule. Yeah there are lots of immature people playing it, but it has literaly millions of subscribers, so there are obviously going to be a lot of idiots playing it.

As for many of the changes in eve, I'm sorry to say, but carebears make up a large portion of the eve player base, and they arent going anywhere. The rest of us bad bad people are just going to have to adapt to how the game evolves.

Good grief, It gets so old to see people say "Walking in stations is a waste of effort that should go towards addressing lag." Its honestly quite stupid, and analogous to saying the carpenters shouldn't be building a house because the auto mechanic hasn't fixed a car yet. The people in charge of walking in stations don't have the knowledge or skills needed to address the fundamental causes of lag; thats not what they were taught, learned themselves, or were hired for for that matter.

On top of that, there are only so many people you can have to address a problem before you're accomplishing nothing. Stop freaking out about people doing things that aren't related to your personal gripes. Sheesh ugh

Walking in station, is something you can choose to use or not to use, and for me, it will be a cool feature.

Changes is always good in a game that never end, because the same up years after years will absolutely get boring, and many will leave EVE because there is nothing new in the game.

Perhaps it is also worth mentioning that EvE has so far enjoyed the only recent "space mmorpg" since earth & beyond shut down. Other companies have noticed the succes of CCP, and want a peice of the pie.
A Star Trek MMORPG is in the works (see mmorpg.com), and a big feature of that game is walking around with your avatar.

My point is that if CCP does not look into expanding EVE in all directions, we find EvE loosing players to other space-themed games.

Having said that, I think the lag issues need solving. Back in the day, lag was also an issue, but now it seems all you need is a 10 v 10 for the lagmonster to decide to appear.
If we, the players, truly want epic battles, CCP needs to resolve those issues. They may be tied into the graphics engine not being terribly efficient, or it may indeed be a network issue, but the fact is that the gaming experience suffers.

Ohh and to get back on topic, I'd just like to respond to the original poster and say:
This is a business, I can understand that CCP needs to make money, and ultimately we, the players also need more new people joining up for this grand pyramid sceme to work...

What I think people don't get is that different teams/groups work on different things. Like ANY company.

If your... say... car manufacturing company is finding that your products have some 'issues' with quality, you don't suddenly get the management, accounts and HR teams working on the workshop floor, do you?

CCP can't (and shouldn't) just say "ok all you artists, sound engineers, designers, managers, db admins and junior coders... everyone drop what you're doing - from now on you are all programmers. FIX THOSE DRONE REGIONS! FIX THE DAMN UI! KILL THE LAAAAG!"

It just dont work like that.

Actually, mostly it DOES work that way.....

A lot of the people working on WIS will be programmers. They can be shifted with minimal effort.
Managers, DB admins... Also needed for bug fixing, so can shift those too.
Artists, designers, if there's no work for them in bug fixing, fire them and hire some software engineers instead! Sounds harsh, and probably is, but happens all over the world in software companies.

And before you say I don't know what I'm talking about... I've been a software engineer for 14 years, currently working on projects at least as complicated as EVE must be.

I'm not saying CCP SHOULD do it (that's their decision), just that the usual excuse offered for why they don't isn't really applicable.

In fact, I don't really see why the excuse has been forwarded at all instead of just saying "We're not shifting people from new features to bug fixing!". If a decision is sound, then an excuse shouldn't be needed...

I look forward to training Walking to Level 4.
Running to Level 3.
Sprinting to Level 1.
and not seeing any point at all in training "Hurdling".

Then I will have a hangar full of "Generic Shoes". And No matter how much I train Running, there will be carebears coated in "Domination Nikes" who can simply run faster than me because they mine and mission run.

Then on top of that, there will be T2 Converse. Slightly more uncomfortable fitting, but you can run a tiny bit faster.

And the icing on the cake? T20 Converse for all the media darling alliances.

There will be an Aurora event where Dunkin' Donuts are giving out free donuts, but only if you can get enough Gallente Cop Cars outside the shop first. I'm betting 7 isk that LV win it.

Some stations will have 10/10 outdoor pursuits shops. The irony being you have to camp the camping shop to get camping gear to camp the Sports Shop within a few seconds of DT ending. The sports shop gets you free trainers to get to the camping shop faster after the next DT.
Some days they will move the camping shop, so your local darling alliance takes an extra 90 seconds to get the camping shop locked down each DT, this qualifies as balance.

There will be a use for exotic dancers at last. Only not in Amarr stations. It's great not being amarr ain't it?

Did you not get the memo? CCP is going to make walking in station just like Planetside. Meaning there will be a mini-FPS within the EVE universe. Imagine a raiding party attacking the station and stealing all yer lootZ? Not only that, it will also be used to conquer station and planets!

AMEN CCP!

Cracks me up. Did you crack a smile? Polly want a cracker? Smack, crackle, pop!

And, as to the topic above, just as players must evolve or die, so must the game itself. The market for the game has changed in the past 4 years.

If ccp doesn't work hard to evolve, then some other lame game company is going to get all ccp's stuff. And that would suck.

The think the major obstacle to PVP is the cost of it. Certainly for me I just can't afford the risk of taking my expensive ships into low sec. I just don't have the game time to ***** Lv4s to build up my case reserves. Sucks but there it is.

CCP nerfed loot drops, salvage is unproductive, bounties reduced, rubbish rewards for exploration. All this means PVP becomes an expensive hobby. If I could fit an effective PVP ship for less money I'd jump at a bit of PVP.

Maybe CCP need to rethink their inflation strategy ? rather then nerf isk taps, maybe they need to make everything cheaper. Ships going pop is a great sink of isk and minerals.

New features are all good, what needs to be done is harsher penalties for people knowingly milking bugged features full well knowing these weren't working as intended.

The point being that that money won't be so content in ruling EVE if banned for exploiting.
