I think it would be cool if for a REAL LIFE FEE you could submit 3d models and textures of a ship (with in limits) and a race/type of ship. this would create a BP that can be used to build a ship of that race/class with the model that you submitted as it's visual apearance.

It would have to pass a certification process of course, ie hot overly high polly count, resonable sized textures, not of a copyrighted material (unless the submitter is the owner of the copyright, and can prove it)

As the stats would be the same for the original ship there wouldn't be any game balancing issues. The only limitation would be the number of different ship models that EVE can handle in video memory.

I would think that the account assosated with the submission should have a BP for the ship that they want to create a new apearance for already, this is to prevent the person from just paying the cash for a rare BP.

A big corp could make a cool model for a ship and then be known for that look of ship.

I think this would be a cool feature if implmented and help make EVE a game that stands out from the rest. I know this idea is going to fall to the lowest of low prioritys if they chouse to implment it. But I like the idea.

That's asking a little too much, and your design would have to fit into the race characteristics and what not. I'd first like to see the ability to upload your own corp images, though. And if that's not even being considered, then I doubt designing your own spaceships would even come up for discussion.

Otherwise, when building a ship, it would be nice to be able to tweak it a little... building an existant ship, but having less armor and more speed, and perhaps a little more power than an ordinary version...
more tweeks can be done as the blueprint is further upgraded...

would be really nice :)

This might already be possible. If they ever implement the ability to research tech level, you might be able to improve on an existing ship design.

I think this is a great idea! Other games (railroad sims) already support this functionality so why not EVE? The EVE developers just need to code 3D Modeling Tool importers to allow the output files of the more common freeware 3D modeling tool files like GMAX to be converted into a file format usable by EVE. Would-be starship architects just download their prefered importer pak and start designing.

I don't think there is a problem with the design needing to look like any other design based on racial criteris. All of the races support corps that conduct independent research and development - so somewhat unique designs should be common.

A ship hull design could always be subject to a final review by game developers before deployment.

Yes the submitter should receive exclusive control of the original blueprints for the design.

Deployment could be by the existing patch system or by separate download website.

Player 3D Modelers could hire their services as in-game starship architects in exchange for ISK.

Non-player 3D Modelers could be retained (yes good 3D Modelers do like to get paid) by players to develop a design with the EVE in-game rights to the design passing to the hiring player.
