I wonder if it will actually be ready by then???

My beta client absolutely refuses to leave a Voice channel once joined ;)

"EVE Online is a deeply strategic, open-ended game in which thousands of players must cooperate and compete,” said Magnus Bergsson, chief marketing officer at CCP Games. “We recently had a fleet battle with more than 1,000 players in one sector of the EVE universe."

...time for a 'complete that paragraph' competition. My entry is:

"..the node fell over within a few seconds but the three hour pre-planning meeting went well." Laughing

Is EVE voice optional? Or will I be forced to listen to angst-ridden, sexually frustrated teenagers wearing down my speakers? Also, what's the bandwidth implications?

With the other clients you can use why put voice into eve as well its not like the cluster has enough to do already , 100 V 100 Bs battle fleets pos spamming and general mission running, Look at Jita and Motsu for a start. Why impliment something that is going to put more stress on an already hard working cluster its just not ready yet, Please CCP sort the bugs first things like node balancing , look at ways to try to increase the transactions avaliable on the cluster to try to aleviate the lag. But dont impliment somethng that is going to require a relitivly large amount of recources.

though it has been said 1000 times before:
The cluster is not responsible for eve voice. Vivox's servers are !

Bandwidth at player's end should be irrelevant. It's only voice and that means a few measily kiB. You can probably use it while playing Eve over a modem if you are getting a very good connection.

Bandwidth at CCP's end:None. The connection goes to Vivox who are presumably set up to deal with it since it's part of their core offering.

oh go away, if CCP are doing such a bad job, and you don't like eve so much, then just leave.

CCP do a much better job than any developing company I've seen (except maybe the one I work for Very Happy)

People who don't have any clue on how difficult it can be to develop software and just blast CCP really annoy me....

Voice com should always be external from games.

Im afraid of a future where nobody types anything on the internet ;_; Text is so clean and pure and efficient.

Most of the time you cant even understand half the people over voice anyway, i usualy only listen to the person calling the shots and cut out the rest of the spam. feh.

In the old days you could play your internet in silence, and meditate to the inaudibale hum of the global one-mind, hidden just behind the screen.

very good point, keeping the voice communications seperate from the game means if the client crashes, you can still communicate...
