My purpose was to create an objective, unbiased political map of the EVE. The map, that will not base on someone’s thoughts and opinions, but only on public facts, such as sovereignty of the solar systems.

Each claimed solar system emits its influence to the nearest space. The system with outpost emits 6 times more influence than regular claimed one. The system with greater sovereignty level emits the more influence. The amount of the influence is reducing proportional to the square distance from the emitting system. For every point of map the summary influence of all alliances is calculated and the territory lays claim to the most influencing alliance.

Moreover, influence is spreading through the jump gates to the nighbour systems. After each jump influence value decreased by 70%. All systems that get influence from the star gate spread also begin to emit it in space (Systems can emit influence for different alliances concurrently).

The systems, claimed by NPC are also emitting a little “empire” influence, so the alliances can’t claim their territory.

Just think that influeance is water and color on map is steam. This should clarify the idea of the map.

Map is fully generated by the Java program. No editions were made to it by the human hands. Some of the alliances don’t appear on the map, because their influence is to low to overwhelm their big influencing neighbor.

Here is the source code of the map (Java + MySQL). Source is under BSD license.

The latest version of the map (04-July-2007):

History of the previous versions:
Map archive
March summary
April summary
May summary

Maps for last days:
06-22, 06-23, 06-24, 06-25, 06-26, 06-27, 06-28, 06-30, 07-01, 07-02, 07-03

The map updated every 1-3 days.

Please read this before post a reply:
1. This is not a war map. It'll not display any conflicts or ship loss.
2. This is not an exact political map. Some systems and even outposts claimed by one alliance may appear on the territory of the other alliance, which is dominating here by influence.

I like this map a lot simply because it is automated, while i believe the other maps are needed as well I definately do like this one.

This is awesome. It's not a replacement for any other map, but rather a complement to it.

Beyond "I own this region" you see exactly where alliances are concentrated, amount of sov, etc. It graphically shows the relative strength of alliances - not neccessarily PVP strength, but definitely logistical/industrial strength, level of entrenchment in their space, and the amount of their space that the alliance is actually using.

One criticism: Could you remove the Polaris/unattached regions from the map? The areas of sov cover sections of them and is quite confusing.

Very nice one - though, I wouldn't really let influence extend into high security space, as it does in place to place. Low sec, certainly, but not quite high sec. Though again, might be a case of projecting 3D space into 2D plane.

Very very good work. Looks horrible and lacks the information of the other maps, but the concept is excellent and as a view of who owns what space without the pet/tennant bias thrown in there it is great.

Very impressive map. The border "edge" line is also automatically calculated, I take it? Perhaps add a smoothing function to it for some of the outer most edges.

Very nice work, it's extremely impressive. Any chance you'll open source the code?

How often will you be updated it?

More maps = win.

Nice that you've gone a different route to the one taken by Joshua and the Goons.

Definitely keep it updated. I might stick links to all the maps in my sig, since we're getting so many these days.

I really like this - it can actually give you useful information on where alliances operate, and where they are concentrated. This map shows tht Bob infrastructure is heavy in Delve, but only in isolated spots in Fountain, and that IAC are still more heavily present in their old space than their newly acquired western space.

I do think that the thick borders are a little misleading, though, especially considering how far away they reach. What about removing the borders, leaving only the fading colour?

Very nice and obviously took some time and effort in coding. The fact that its automated and mostly objective is a huge plus.

I love it.
