I like the fiction, I like the magazines and books. But damn, I haven't the patience or money to buy the other stuff anymore. |

I used to play a year or 3 back. I had a small but awesome looking Tau army, and a larger but horribly painted Ork army. |

This is me aswell, love the fluff but find the game itself fairly boring. |

I was somewhat interested in the model side of things when I was younger, until I realized it cost $50.00 for 10 oz's of mold-pressed metal. Ya, no thanks, I'll spend my hard earned cash elsewhere.

Warhammer 40k Blood Angels, i've been collecting them for years now, in fact probably a little over a decade, i've lost track of how big my army is now. I also have a Tyranid army, it's a sizeable force but I never developed it anywhere near as much as my Blood Angels, I really only started because I had a few Tyranid models from my spacehulk game.
Epic 40k Imperial guard and ultra marines, I have 3 Titans and me and one of my old mates at my last wargaming club used to have HUGE battles. hundreds of tanks, thousands of troops with my Titans slowly moving between the tabletop buildings towards the enemy. good fun!
Battlefleet Gothic The Imperium, I loved BFG a really enjoyable game, huge battleships cruising around offloading full broadsides into one another with fighter groups and missile volleys zooming around the board.
And I have quite a few mordheim miniatures as well.
It's been a few years since I have played any games, I'm in western Cornwall atm but am having no luck finding any wargaming clubs so it could be a while before my forces see any more action.
I like painting them though and i'm considering either getting an Eldar or Tau army for 40k or possibly starting on Warhammer and getting either a dwarf of high elf army. |

Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the ... Oh, screw this, I don't have the time and money to buy and paint a bunch of Khorne berserkers. Only WH40k'ing I've been doing in recent years has been the computer games. |

I was shopping today, and needed a pack of scalpel blades for some work I'm doing... so, nipped into the local art shop, but they were out of stock. fie, blast, etc.
as I leave the art store though, I noticed the Games Workshop across the street. "they sell modelling bits" I say to myself remembering all the good times I had 12 years ago... and, resigning myself to the fate of paying perhaps 99p for a pack, I went in
so I in I go, and ask the shrieking geek behind the counter for a pack, ignore the blank look I get when I say "swann-morton scalpel blades" and wait while he works out what I mean. he then sticks the pack under the barcode scanner, and I almost had a heart attack
one packet of 5 scalpel blades, the local art shop. 75p. one identical packet of 5 scalpel blades, the GW shop. £6.00
Six pounds. Six chuffin' quid. for something that retails for 75p.
I'm glad I grew out of the hobby in the mid 90's. I used to be a regular entrant in the Golden Demon Awards, got down to the final cut in a few categories, but I'll never want to have anything to do with a company that price gouges kids quite that obscenely. |

I dabbled with 1st ed WH40K circa 1989, but got bored with it. Dirtside is a far superior game IMHO, but that may be because I was raised on "proper" wargames.
Blood Bowl was good though. |

Games Workshop are good at quite a few things.
Unfortunately, one of them is mercilessly gouging it's customers.
I used to play GW stuff in my youth but i stick to the PC games derived from GW stuff these days.

I used to play, however its to expensive for me nowadays, i think my first ever unit was the old Blood Angels Death Company at least 8 years ago, i collected some of them then got bored and collected a fair amount of Orks, at the same time collecting a Lizardman and Orc and Goblin army for Fantasy, then Dark Eldar for 40K then i realised i was poor and had to resort to buying single minitures for just fun painting. |

the price gouges are kinda insane, BTW Dark Elves and Nurgle in fantasy, thinking seriously about Ogres.
honestly tho i haven't bought jack in almost 3 years for the game because of prices, just stare and dream nowadays. oh and Ebay, i Ebay a lot too. |

I suck at painting. If painting were EVE, I'd be a carebear. Part of the reason I never had much of an army, I just bummed off of friends when playing. |

Quick warning Ogres are a lot of crap. Anyway for W40k i have 3 armies favourate first. Tyranids - Never Ever lost with these. Necrons - Same here but harder to achieve. Tau - I win a lot with these about 70% of the time especially if i get a nice firing line. Fantasy Skaven. |

Going back to 1990-1995ish here:
Mighty Empires I loved the sheer scale and connectivity of this game. Map battles linking into tabletop games, sea battles linking into Man o' War; this game was immense. I still see copies on eBay going for £100+ from time to time.
Warhammer Fantasy I'll never forget the day my younger brother spent his entire £200 xmas money on an Orc army. I myself preferred Undead (regen 4tw!), whilst my older brother was into Skaven. Looking back, Chaos might have been a better option. Wallpapering tables have never so much fun. Oh, and anyone into this must try and get ahold of the book Konrad and it's sequels; it's like Eve Chronicles on steriods.
Man o' War Warhammer with boats!
Blood Bowl Played it, again Undead or Human teams, was ace. There is now an online Java league which my older brother plays.
