Lately there seem to be far more level 4 missions where releasing drones or bringing someone along causes entire rooms to aggro. Last night, helping in "Pirate Slaughter" I deliberately waited until ships were launching missiles at my corpmate, then targeted and attacked one of those ships. Neither one of us had drones out. Instantly the rest of the room aggro'd and attacked me. We were both set up to tank so the mission while challenging did not overwhelm us - and I enjoyed the challenge.
However this leads to my question. Is this truely a bug or is it an attempt to make missions harder/more interesting? If it's a bug it appears to be happening far more often. On the other hand if it's intended, while I like it, it presents a problem. I often bring newer corp members along to break them in on level 4 missions. Having AE room 1 go full aggro on a newer player is very daunting (I get 1 spawn, they get all the rest). It has lead to me refusing missions and/or gangs on "bugged" missions - which goes against the whole concept of a MMO.
I know eve isn't just missions, ganging up for PvP is absolutely the most fun in Eve (for me) and is what makes EVE great. But sometimes we want to gang up for the social aspects and mining doesn't always cut it. Perhaps this is a prelude to level 5 missions (which I hope to be gang only). Thoughts? Opinions? A dev response would be welcome too
