Please visit your user settings to re-enable images.

Buttons displayed above:
1. Attack / Operate
2. Launch / Scoop
3. Return and orbit
4. Note the small double arrows to hide the buttons.

This is what we droners need. A useful interface to be able to use our drones properly in combat. Select your drones below the overview panel and then use the interface to direct your drones in combat. Also have quick-keys tied to the buttons to be able to use keyboard as well. 2 hands are better than one. Unfair that turret and missile users get that upper hand over the drone users. Note that these buttons exists already, we only need a better interface to access these commands.

Maybe add some more buttons:
1. Guard me. (To defend you or your target, aggressor will get attacked.)
2. Orbit (Orbit any target you assign the drones to)
3. Drone behaviour

Guard setting. To have the drones orbit you till something aggresses you. Or the drones.

We need different drone behaviour settings. Itís annoying to have them go attack whatever they want. Aggressive or passive, only those 2 settings. Currently they attack anything randomly. It would be nice to be able to set them to return to orbit after killing there assigned target. Also if they are set on aggressive it would be nice if they attacked as a group of drones and not individually. Currently they spread out thus not being able to do enough damage to kill anything.

Iím not asking for much here. Especially the control interface, itís absolutely needed. In PvP you donít have time to right click and assign stuff. You need easy command keys. Split second commands make the difference.

n1 Xcom. Seems so simple, just like having the REAL drone stats on the drone info. Check this out CCP, just might get us droners all happy (even tho it wont fix the drones slow-assing back to the ship).

one issue with it though is you need a group selection thing too for grouping drones

/Signed.

With the new gang blob stuck under the drone blob on the overview, it's getting difficult to arrange the space there. This would solve that problem.

The selection part under the overview can be tweaked. Simply add a feature were you can select all the drones in a group simultaneously or select them individually. The button positions can also be changed to directly above the turrets. As the warp text is displayed were they are position on that picture. All that is details thatís left for the devs to figure out. As long as the interface is added. We can worry about the details on sisi.

Just add them to the area where you control your weapons from. F1, F2, F3, Alt F1, etc.

No ships in the game use all 24 module slots (3 rows of 8). So with drones in the bay those buttons you displayed are automatically put in the open spaces and the user can then move them around (just as if they were modules) to where they want them.

Would just save space that way :p

Anyhow,

That suggestion is missing some stuff (how to select drones, drone stats, and so on...)

Actually I liked the OPs suggestion better, it is minimalistic which is nice since there are many buttons there already. So /signed Smile

Fair enough. But how do you control which drones to launch for example with OP's suggestion? Where do you see drone hit points? Where does it display if drone is idle or fighting? and so on...

That suggestion works fine if you only have 5 drones in your dronebay, but what if youre flying dominix with 20 drones?

now lets discuss drone ammo ( sourced and resupplied from youre main cargo hold or perhaps a drone ammo storage part on youre ship) that would allow drones that use hyrbid and projectiles and missiles to actually use those

Always wondered how drones keep supplied

Your idea is well thought out, but a bit too complicated. If CCP ever were to add an interface it would probably be very simple. Not much programming put into the idea. I had other ideas but I boiled it down to its most simple form because I know if itís as complicated as you describe it in your thread CCP wonít bother implementing it. Simple is better.

Over said on eve-tv that, CCP donít have any plans about the drone interfacing causing problems under the overview tab. After that itís even more important to keep it simple, if we want to spark some interest to the devs.

Dont get me wrong, i do like simple when it comes to user interfaces.

But only problem with your suggestion is that its missing bunch of features that are needed to control drones.

Lets take a simple example: Youre flying a dominix with bunch of drones. lets say 5 heavy attack drones, 5 medium attack drones and 5 heavy armor repair drones.

1. How do you launch 5 medium attack drones with your ui in that case?
2. How do you recall those drones in mid combat if your friend suddenly needs armor rep?

With my UI, those actions require couple quick clicks. I dont even see any way to select drones with your UI suggestion.

So, oversimplifying something is not always good thing. (...if it screws up usability.)

I forgot to describe this, so here it goes.
Selection method can be simple. Place a small box in front of each drone and drone group. Click the box and you have selected the drone.

1. Open overview drone panel. Select the drones by left clicking them. Then hit the launch button.

2. Your drones are already selected. Hit the return to drone bay button. Down select your med drones. Select your armour rep drones and then launch.

My opinion is that drone UI has to be separated from overview. And if new drone UI still uses it, why even bother because this would only achieve one thing: to add more mouse travel into the UI. (select target -> select drones from overview -> give command with command button. select target -> select other drones -> give command. etc...)

Currently theres 2 places where you control your drones (targets and drone UI), your suggestion would add third separate place on screen where you control stuff (command buttons).

Basically it would be just as fast and easy to use current r-click menu in overview to control drones.

My intention is not to shoot down your idea any way possible (believe me, anything is better than current UI, and i hope we see some changes in near future), im just trying to keep discussion alive about the possible problems that this change could cause.

I understand what youíre saying. But your idea implements that CCP needs to make a totally new panel for drones. And itís placed directly below the overview panel. Witch makes no difference when talking in perspective of reducing overview space. This way you force people to reduce overview space because otherwise it would be impossible to control the drones individually. And itís very important to micro manage drones, ďthe scoop and launch techniqueĒ. Two major flaws, new panel that requires lots of programming. CCP have made it obvious that drones are on the bottom of there priority list. Second, the overview problem still wonít get fixed.

Moving the panel above the turret slots would help with the overview problem. But still itís more programming than 3 simple buttons and few boxes.

After reading your thread over and over Iím starting to fully understand your idea. I can see many advantages and some flaws. In the end I think we have nearly the same idea. Difference is, your idea helps to remove drones from overview panel completely but are much more complicated. Mine is simpler but keeps the drones in overview. I will convo you in game and we can go through it and maybe come up with an even better solution.
