To be honest, we were absolutely expecting that star fraction would not field the huginn. They have a very solid setup, and with dampener's it's very hard to kill. I wish I had been able to see how well my drones were doing, we almost got within 25k of the Huginn, and could have nos'd it, which meant we could have won the fight.

So anyway, I hope they do well in the finals, they have certainly earned it. For those wondering, no ASCN did not pay us to fight with these ships. They aren't online enough YARRRR!!

ASCN does not pay blackmail requests.

:Edit: Helganstandt > So anyway, here it is. I want 500 mil up front. Upon killing star fraction, I want another 2 billion. We will keep the last SF ship alive until you pay the rest. If you do not pay the rest, we self-destruct.

That's right.

Taking an event that is supposed to show off the best of the best in Eve and turning it in to a low-sec ransom is damn funny. Sad

Shame to see CCP allow that in their premier event.

Interesting. Can we get a CCP GM to answer about this and describe how can that be possible?

Well 5mins before the fight Muffins Commed me and spieled the line:

"ASCN have paid 2billion for us to beat you, if you pay us 2.5billion isk we'll throw the fight and let you win".

I said:

"thanks but no thanks we'd rather go out fairly than bribe our way through"

Muffins said: "okay" and we fought an entirely fair fight as far as I'm concerned.

At the end of the fight Muffin's said in local:

"ASCN didn't bribe us it was just a spiel to try and ransom you."

So I'm going to take them at their word and conclude that ASCN had nothing whatsoever to do with Muffin's throwing the RAZOR fight and fielding an extremely competent and dangerous team against us today.

At the last it was a hard match and well fought but we came through in the end and did enough to win.

I've got to give some amusement points to Muffins for their cheaky attempt to "ransom" us, but like I said in the convo - for us this is about the honour of fighting and trying to win fairly. We don't care ultimately whether we win or lose - we just want to do the best we can and generate some positive reputation for our alliance while having fun in the games.

Thanks again to the organisers and our opponents and wellwishers. This has been a great occassion and very nerve-wracking...

Eve is the best! Cool

Congrats to SF for their dubious win.

Grats to Muffins for following through on their ransom threat. Pirates until the end.

Good luck to SF in future matches.

This is Eve, underhanded corporations, good and bad pirates, anti-pirates, ransom attempts, war, logistic runs, blown up ships, blowing up ships and of course scamming people.

I'm proud of the ASCN team for their part in the tournament. I'm happy to see that there are pirates in the game still(I kept hearing them go on about WTZ being the end of it) who are willing to be the bad guy. I'm glad to see that the tournament continues.

I'm not glad at CCP's inability to follow through with IC consequences for IC actions. In Game events and storylines are forgotten or misrun. Hopefully when news of match throwing hits the hears of the Caldari in charge of the tournaments won't take the tarnishing of their name sitting down. But that's part of the Event team's jobs.

Anyhow, good luck to all participants. Blown up ships make the game go round.

Aw, are you guys going to make me post what an ASCN guy agreed to?

Edit: Besides, none of you were online. I was willing to keep it private for ASCN's sake, but if you guys want to know, let me go grab the convo and post it.

Excuse me "dubious win"? I've avoided taking a side on matters pro and anti ASCN in past months because I've got a fair degree of respect for some people in BoB and ASCN. But its a bit rich for you to come and try and besmirch that result. It was a win - clear and simple. We locked Muffins down and eliminated their drones as they eliminated ours. If you are alleging that Muffins threw that fight you are very wrong - they were actually far harder to beat than the ASCN team was.

I'll ask you to take your implication back please.

Also, ASCN didn't have anything to do with us throwing the RZR match. We concluded that even if we were to win both our matches flawlessly, we would end up not going through as ASCN would have a better kill/loss difference due to the match against Equisite Malevolance. To be honest, EVETv gave us the idea at the last minute, when they were talking about ASCN paying us to win for this match, and we figured "hey, they SHOULD pay us, and they're all rich anyway".

So that being said, should I post the convo I had with the ASCN guy who agreed to pay us if we won? I feel kind of bad for him if he indeed didn't have permission from high command. I assumed that he did.

Just to point out. I'm NOT knocking SF's win.

Just the low life tactics that MoM brought in.

And JFI... No ASCN member was authorised to agree to MoM.
I was informed and we spoke to LeMonde.

So folks. If you want to win the tourney next year.
Form Lots of allainces.
Cheat and grief your way to a superb victory and crow that you are uber on the forums.

<Sarcastic if you hadnt guessed.>

Again. Congrats to Star Fraction and Jasmine's Team.

Hey at least Notleh was honorable. TBH I did not expect them to pay us at all because well we are -10.0 to ASCN (OMGZ EBIL PIE-RATS!!!).

We thought for sure we would BBQ Star Fraction. We did not expect a Huggin at all. Thats just the way it goes. Either way we were forsure out of the tourney after our fair loss to ASCN and gypped loss to Exquisite (They may have won anyway - gj to Exquisite, we just feel shafted by the ECM burst deal not going off).

So hell if we were in a position to ransom - you sure as hell would have seen us ransom. We had talked if we came up against a CNR or some other faction BS and we had the match - we would ransom it in local for a bil or two to let it live YARRRR!!

Good times. Nice fight Star Fraction. I am honestly interested as to why you even fielded a Huggin??

Exquisite match = us drone boats
ASCN match = us droneage + huggin (ASCN's weakness)
RAZOR match = comedy

In all of our minds we thought for sure we would not be seeing a Huggin, you had no reason to field one. Ah well thats the way it goes. Good fight.

The drama...

Well, I guess I better address it from my point of view.

First, let me say that Star Fraction faught well against us and others and deserve to progress forward.

A few minutes before the match I was pulled into a convo with Helganstandt. I am not sure why; I would guess it was because I was on the ASCN team. We had never talked before, and our team in NO way (that I know of) supported or paid for the Muffins ahead of time.

So, Helgan basically said in this last-minute convo that they could beat SF, and wanted 2.5 billion isk for it because it would take an expensive setup. They had come up with the plan all on their own, and setup all on their own. Earlier I had actually been laughing about the whole ASCN funding the muffins drama.

Anyway, I said no, we would not pay them to win, but they should go for it for their own honor. That didn't go anywhere, so I said if they went for it, I would pay them for their losses and pay them a billion isk if they won. Me personally, not ASCN. No one else was involved in this decision.

Basically, it was a decision made a few minutes before the match and to me it was worth a billion isk for 2 reasons:

1) I wanted to see a good fight and I knew it would make things more interesting.

2) It would give my team a chance to move forward. TBH, I didn't think it was much of a chance, but it was worth the risk to me.

So, in the end, Muffins lost and I reimbursed them for 2 mauluses because I said I would cover the losses. Nothing else was paid out because they lost.

Yes, Notleh was very honorable. I think SamuraiJack just jumped the gun on this one. I personally was more than willing to just keep the deal under the radar. So ASCN HC needs to rethink what their priorities are.
