what ship do you think will be best for salvaging, will it be a pvp ship? or a ratting ship? because i think salvaging would be a nice way for pirates to make some isk. I mean you supposedly get better items from player wrecks

The Hurricane, its the fastest BC with the biggest Cargobay, with 6 cargo I I have like 1250 m^3 bay thats good enouph for lvl4 missions. Battleships are too slow.

Hi: 4-6 Salvagers 4-2 Tractor Beams
Mid: Afterburner II
Low: 6x Expanded Cargo

I actually think the Exequror will shine at salvaging.
10% cargo bonus per lvl with 600 base cargo and 3 low slots for extenders.
2x salvager
2x tracktor beams
1x MWD
3x cargo extender

As the salvagers class as target painters (at least the BPO does)maybe the Bellicose TP bonus applies to them too? Should be worth to give that a try and see if it does.
If yes the Bellicose would be the ultimate salvage ship

Problem with pvp ships fitting some salvaging equipment is:
What are you willing to leave at base for it?

Maybe fitting a salvager in the geddons 8th hi slot is to your taste.Neutral
I would rather have some alt along with a frig to salvage than unfit a nos or weapon from any of my ships.
With only mechanic 3, survey 3 needed to train salvage skill and good starting skills for ships its very easy to create such an alt.

I think you're definately right with the Typhoon, its fast, cheap and versatile enough to still pose a threat to people even if setup to salvage.

Keeping in mind that, given that Salvagers autorepeat and continue trying until they either salvage successfully or fail completely (in either case, destroying the wreck), I've found anything smaller than a cruiser to be completely lame at salvaging because they run out of cap way too fast. A 4/4 Destroyer sounds good... until you try to run it.

An Exequor with 2/2 Tractors/Salvagers, a MWD, expanders, and cap batteries is working pretty well. I'm wondering if it might be worth jumping into ship with more highs and more cap... though with the Salvage requirements nerf component prices are going to drop like a rock, and spending more money on a trashship doesn't sound terribly appealing.

I do like the idea of a BS/Salvager. By that regard, a Domi might not be the worst idea ever for mission salvage. Since most of the Domi's PvE damage typically comes from drones anyway, perhaps leaving all but one aggro cannon at home and replacing them with tractors and salvagers will save the step.

Or, just get a second account. Now I see your plan, CCP...

Missle ships are good for a salvage mod. The last high is not that necessary. They usually dont have grid to fit NOS (escpecially with extenders and HALs being fotm) and they are too slow to rely on being in NOS range anyway + they have the best passive set ups that dont need cap...

In a gang I d say fit a Salvage mode on a Drake or something and use your ammar ships to store the leewwt (ammar in gang typically dont need injector and booster charges).

I find the Exequoror to be great.
2 Salvagers and 2 tractors in high.
Fit the rest as you deem fit.
I tend to fit a shield tank and fill that drone bay with light drones.

I haven't bothered fitting a MWD as, to be honest it can take a while to pop a wreck by salvaging it (failure or success) and so I tend to fly along dragging wrecks and analyzing them as I approach further cans (a tractor will only drag a wreck at 500m/s so flying faster is a waste IMHO).

Probably the Arbitrator.

4 Highs for salvage mods/nos
4 Mids for Propulsion/EW
4 Lows turn you into speedy little stababator[or nanobator if you prefer, but it will be slower without a balance of nano's/stabs]

75 m^3 drone bay to do damage.

Decent cargo hold.

If you want a lvl 4 looter you want something that is fast, has a big cargo bay, with plenty of highs and lows.

So the Exqueror will be very good with enough space to hold a lvl 4 mission[or close], enough highs and enough lows to go decently fast. Mids for capacitor to run the MWD and there you go.

Highs are 3 salvager/1 tractor
Mids are 1 MWD/Batter/CR/CR
Lows are stab/stab/nano or nano/nano/stab whichever gets you faster with your skills.

That or Nano/Stab/Cargo Expander.

I've been using a Cormorant.

-hi-
3 x Tractor
5 x Salvager
-med-
AB, cap chargers
-low-
'Spander, Nanofiber, cap relay if your skills suck :P

You sometimes have to jet a lootcan and come back for it later, but its pretty fast for salvaging.

I'm using a Cormorant with 4 salvagers /4 tractors. The cap issues are handled by fitting a named cap battery and 2 named cap chargers in the mids, along with a cold arcjet AB. The low slot has a beta cargo expander.

It does have cap issues if I run all the salvagers and tractors at the same time for extended periods, but if you drag all the cans within 20km radius into range then stop, turn off the tractors and start salvaging the cap can keep up. Helps a bit having Salvage 3 skill because it doesn't take the modules as long to not find anything.

Let's think...
You need a ship that has a lot of high slots 7 or 8 ( BS, BC, Destroyer, some HACs )
Ship needs to be able to run all the high slot mods and a MWD on auto repeat. Can be done with adding (oversized) cap batteries. MWD is for speedy travel from one group of wrecks to another.
You need to have a big cargo capacity hence you need a ship with a big base cargo or a ship with a low of low slots.

Obvious choice would be an apoc or basically any other tier 2 or 3 BS with 4-5 expanders and 3-4 nanofibers and 4/4 tractor beams and salvagers.
Cheaper version would be basically any Battlecruiser with 7 or more high slots.
Anything smaller lacks the cargo capacity to be able to loot lvl4 missions.

My salvager:

Typhoon -

High: 4 x Cruise Launchers, 1 x Tractor Beam, 3 x Salvager
Mid: 100mn Ab, Sensor Booster, Target Painter, Webbifier
Lows: 2 x Inertia Stabilizers, LAR, etc., etc. (2(3) x WCS's optional for low sec work)

I basically do one of two things: I rat low secs salvaging or mission salvaging. Quite often I go as a wingman to an l4 missioner as I bring additional firepower, salvaging, and a drone bay full of heavy repair bots.

Before anyone wants to flame this post: If I wanted to play solo I'd play X3 Reunion or MW: Oblivion. So sod off.

Yesterday I was salavging in a plex, two salvage boats (A Domi and a Cyclone) and 7 Fighting vessels popping and endless spawn of BCs, BCs, Cruisers, and Ceptors. (The Cosmos plexes have been spawning crazily since the Revelations patch.)

Both salvagers had salvage 3, with 5 Salvage mods between them. The Rats were all Bloodraiders. After salavging between 30 and 40 wrecks in less than an hour, all we had to show for it was 10 units of metal scraps.Embarassed

Doesn't look like these rats were dropping any salvagable components at all. So is it only in missions and belts that wrecks are salvagable? And not in public plexes? Or is it just the Amarr cosmos that got shafted?

I combine my salvage ship with a lootship.
In my opinion the best ship is the Exequror since its got
a huge cargo hold.

Hi: 2x tractor beam / 2x salvager
Med: AB / Cargo scanner (you know, the 70km version) / sensor booster (to get a 70km+ lock Very Happy), the last med slot is empty so far, maybe a shield booster if used in belts.
Low: Either 3x nano or 3x cargo expanders (or combo).

Fill the drone hold with either 4 med drones or all light drones, you'll have some good protection aswell :)

I've been using a Catalyst destroyer, and its been working very nicely. Nice and cheap too :)

6x Salvagers, 2x Tractor Beams, 1x 1mn AB or MWD, 1x Cap Recharger,4x Expanded Cargo

With 3 salvagers on each tractored wreck you can loot a lvl4 very quickly, although I've had to dump a full cargo bay back at station then go back out once or twice.

Harpy, for solo cosmo salvaging ( ANI Constellation ). Fitted:
Highs - 4 t2 150's and salvager
Med - Hacker/Analyzer, t2 small shield Booser, t2 AB, and hardner.
Low - 2 PDU's

I can kill everything in ANI with it except BS and survive encounters that would kill a lesser frig and cruisers when salvaging or scanning. Also, almost all gates are open to an AF. Got a Caldari Drake for big OPS. Works good.

The thrasher (min destroyer) has been working well for me. A little better then the cat. 4 tractors, 4 salvagers a 10mn AB for 1.4km/s in dead space and cap rechargers + inertial stabs for the rest. only 400m^3 of cargo space but you can always drag a can along behind you and then make a couple of trips to shuttle loot and salvage back to a station. Its still generally faster then using a larger loot ship.

Would be good if they created a specialist set of Salvage/Exploration ships which had a salvage bonus, either time or success chance. Plenty of tank, very limited firepower but maybe the ability to field some Mining Lasers and scan probe launcher. No idea how they would go about it though.

Would be good to go on an extended tour of 0.0 looking for wrecks, rare asteroid fields, hidden complexes and selling the 'rights' on. Keeping out of the main pipes looking for things.

Ah well, back to the real world....

Same, but it's a hybrid version:

4 x Light Electron Blasters, 3 x Salvager, Tractor Beam
MWD, Webber
400mm plate, PDS, SAR II

This setup lets me rat with the boys and then clean up after. You need a POS or can in-system to drop loot, though.

ya most definitly thing i like about this setup is you can actually cruise around in nearly a regular nanofiber ganked setup and still salvage your sucesses, its been my opinion that salvaging should be left up to the pirates, i mean they are after all looking for treasure in junk after all arent they ?

Seriously though, a typhoon has been working great.

I have this current set-up for looting missions:
Hi - 3 x tractor beams, 5 x salvagers
Mid - 1 x MWD, 3 x cap rechargers
Low - 4 x cargo expanders, 3 x inertial stabilizers

I can move ~1200 m/s, have ~1400m3 cargo, and can turn on a dime.

Not PvP viable, but nice to clean up the mess after a mission.
