A necro, sure (though only by a few months . . .), but to add something new:
The correct form in the general language is 'bonuses'. You can argue that it should be consistent with words like 'hippopotami', but you'll lose. English simply isn't a consistent language.
However, there is always local vernacular to consider. The Internet has created a linguistic bloom of new words. Words like 'LOL' or 'Leeroy' or 'Series of Tubes' have specific meaning in the context of Internet culture and sub-cultures. Linguistically, there's no reason the Eve community shouldn't accept 'bonii' as correct, with the understanding that it's wrong outside the context of Eve. |

Corelli hehe - "I wanted to pwn, but then I got high"
To be exact, it is from a Latin root, but isn't a Latin word. If it were a Latin word, it would be properly formed as "bonum", same as "maximum" or "premium". "Bonus" in Latin has the male gender, while "bonus" in English has an implied neutral gender (although English doesn't do genders on most words, as we know). Since bonus isn't being used as it would in Latin, there's no reason to assume it should be pluralised as it would be in Latin. |
