Hey guys. I've just started duoing level 4 missions with a friend of mine. I fly a Domi, she flys a Raven. Obviously she does most of the DPS and can tank for a few mins almost as well as I can, she just has cap problems without faction XL booster. I kill tacklers with drones, tank, and grab cans. I'm kind of low on BS skills since I've been speccing torwards Recon cruisers which are crap for PvE as you all know. It'll take me 1/2 a month for a fully T2 tank, and I'm not gonna dedicate to only training that all at once, so here's my idea.

I've been looking at the Hype. Crappy blasterboat, maybe. But that 7.5% per level bonus looks pretty freaking sexy on a mission armor tank methinks. I'm wondering if I can set up something like this (no exact numbers, hope quickfit comes out with a new version soon. I'm also taking stats from the test server ship stats thread so could be out of date)

High
3-4x heavy nos, rest tractors and small or med rails

Mid
5x Cap rechargers, T2 or best named

Low
2x Acomm reppers, 3x Rat specific armor hardeners, DC (accidents do happen)

Strategy is to have a perma-running 1 LAR tank, and turn the second one on when Nossing, either 1 heavy on each cruiser or a couple on BSes.

So, will this setup run? At BS lvl4 I'll be repping the equivalent of 2.6 LARs. What spawns can't this tank entire rooms of NPCs on? It would be nice to not turn down the harder L4s because of insufficient tank. My smallmed guns/med drones should still make short work of tacklers without bonii I think. I know a Domi with a faction or T2 tank would do this just as well but I don't have the ISK for that. (I know the Hype is expensive right now but lets say for argument sake I can get one at 140-160mil.)

First post in mission forums and this is an off the wall idea, so... *flame on*

You might still have problems running a dual tank with that setup. You will most likely be able to run one LAR perpetually with four cap recharger IIs and decent cap skills, but running a second is going to be touch and go, since you won't always have something fat enough close enough to drain enough juice from.
I'd dump a nos or two in favour of a cap injector with 800s in it.

I can run two 450cap/cycle reppers constantly on my domi for a very very long time (like, more than 20 mins atleast, havn't counted) with 4x cap recharger IIs, and an injector with 800s. It's definatly possible to do it for even longer with 400cap/cycle reppers. A Nos or two will prolong it even more. Should work about the same on an Hyperion, but I'm not sure.

Let me ask u a question. Are u going to solo the mission or are u still going to do it with your friend in a Raven?
Cose if your friend in a Raven still is a primary damage dealer and tanker, than I suggest u fit your Dominix for support. I've been using this setup to assist Raven:

Hi: 2 Heavy Nos, 2 Large Shield Transfer, 2 tractor beams
Med: 4 cap rechargers, 1 Heavy F-rx injector
Low: 1 large rep, 1 DC, 5 cap power relays.

Here's how u do it: stay right next to a Raven, once Raven agrros and goes down 50% shield, start transfer shield, u can perma run 1 shield transport, 2nd transport will have to be on and off otherwise your cap might die. In case of emergency Injector with 800 charges should be fired up, but make sure u do that on manual cycles dun waste your booster charges.

Shield repair drones are also very useful but I dun recommend it since alot of spawns start insta pawn drones and aggro both of u. Use DRONES ONLY WHEN U ARE SURE U CAN CONTROL YOUR SILLY LITTLE DRONES 100%.

If u decide to go for Hyper and solo lvl 4 missions, well what can I advise, jump back to DOmi or train for Raven. Hyper is a bad bad bad mission runner. Smile

If I may throw in a suggestion here, you may find you have better luck using a Typhoon as a makeshift logistics ship. I have been using one to boost a Raven's defensive capabilities with much success. The reason the Typhoon is great for this is because of its Tier 1 cost, reasonable default cap recharge time, 8 hi slots, and 7 lows.

The setup I've been using is this, and is a perpetual support ship as it can run both shield and cap transfer arrays forever. It's got an armor xfer array, too, but that is only used sparingly as that will break the "infinite" cap recharge rate.

2x medium regard cap xfer arrays, 2x f59 medium (or whatever the best named is, I cant remember now) shield transfer arrays, 1x drone link augmentor, 2x tractors, 1x large arrup remote armor xfer (comes in handy when things go sour).

1x 100mn AB II, the rest of the meds have fixed capacitor links

1x Vestment LAR (just in case), 6x Cap power relays

The reason I use meds is because when tested with quickfit, pre patch, I found 2x of each shield xfer and cap xfer can and does run forever with all those cap rechargers. Cap recharge time is something insanely short like 166s or something. I've been thinking about switching to 1x large of each to free up hi slots, and will probably do so. This setup still works post revelations, thank goodness.

To the OP:

That does sound interesting, the Hype with the armor rep boost. If you do try it, please let us know how it goes. It doesn't really have all the lows it should have to be a proper armor tank, imho, so you *may* be better off replacing an LAR for a 1600 tungsten plate. If I were you, I'd wait for the latest quickfit as doing this will a) save you money from buying an overpriced Hyped-up-erion and b) give you a chance to see if it's a viable option before spending the isk when it may have better been spent on a bridge in New York.
