Pretty much the only term I haven't seen in Eve that I've seen frequently in a few other MMOs (most notably Anarchy Online) is KS. Kill Steal. Whoever does the most damage gets the xp and loot rights. We used 'roll', 'alt' and 'toon' a lot, also. Rolling a mission...rolling a mule alt (to hold gear)...and we all know what toons are. For some reason, no one there gave enough of a **** to start a whine thread about it, though. It's kinda amusing. "Ohnoes! These 4 letters annoy me and here's a rationalization using my obfuscated logic decoder ring!"

They're just words, peeps. You know what they translate to in your little world. Get over it.

I think 'Ratting' is unique to EVE.
Not the word itself, but the meaning behind it.
It is not about killing rodents wich is commonly the first thing you do in fantasy RPG.
It is the eve-version of a certain type of 'grinding'.
The endless repetative killing of NPC's for loot, xp, wealth, resources, standing etc.
The EVE NPCs are mostly piRATeS, and with the link to rodent killing in the back of the mind the term 'Ratting' was born.

Somewhat off-topicish but in the same general area, how in the world did BS become Battleship? Its one thing to take the standard MMO terms and adapt them to the game environment as nessecary, even invent a few new ones but to take a standard convention of the English language (one that has been in service for over three centuries) and decide to change its reference?

Yes. And BB can't be used because it already stands for Blackbird within Eve.
