A little bit early (or late, depending on whose schedule you read Wink), Tuxford has a new blog with a bunch of information on some of the ship and module changes coming with next week's Revelations release, including some formulas and insight into just why some of the changes are being made.

It's a long one, but certainly worth the read. This and that.

Good blog, but im honestly a little conserned about how solo pvp will be with the coming hp change, cause it seems that some of the new ships have way to good tank to ever be able to break it, at least in the time it takes them to get backup.

And I was wondering what the reason for giving t1 and t2 ships about the same amount of armor? shouldnt t2 ships still get more armor then their t1 counter parts?
And most importantly, will you boost faction ships as well?YARRRR!!

If the Drake does get its ROF bonus I will be a very happy bunny Smile

As things stand the Drake doesnt compare with the DPS capabilities of a myrmidon (or the other Tier 2s for that matter). If the Drake still out-tanks everything else with the ROF bonus, kill the natural resistance bonuses somewhat; that will make basically every Caldari player happy, in my opinion (and from reading around a bit).

As for the other races, the Hurricane seems to be mostly balanced (though weak in artillery, by design or accident?) and the Harbinger is, well... not being commented on much Confused

And the drones get no love again....

Is someone even looking at them ? or will the game break down to the point that when we fire high slot mods your ship locks something random in range and fires on that?

While making empire wars more fun, drone ships atm, while not 100% useless require more micromanegment(sp?) then any other combat related attack.

Keep up the good work Tux. Sounds like your doing good working out all the bugs for a longer fight with out making unbrakeable tanks.

As for longer fights that does scare me though. I tend to forget to fight when in pvp combate so if they are longer I might just passout Shocked.

Seems good to me, but it still seems that some of the tier 2 BC's are better at tanking than ganking, and I thought that ganking was their primary role and not so much tanking like the tier 1 versions?

It also seems to me that the shield recharge rate is increased by a static 25%. Howcome it's not related to the different hp boosts the different classes of ship got, or did I misunderstand that??

Good to get another glimpse into the development plan. I'm sure you'll get us quite a good finished product Tuxford.

I'm also glad to hear that you're considering bringing back the Drake's ROF bonus, I'd love to see it's resists removed for balance and for it to end up as a fun to fly gank ship, instead of an upgraded Ferox.

I maybe overreacted, but myrmidon is going o have damage of BS! It is going to waste all other BC's ass.

Now Hurricane just doesnt have so good alpha with arty, so it wont be a good arty platform either (+ HP boost = arty nerf, thou you fixed this Smile).

With seven turret hardpoints it was perfetc solo AC machine, and good artillery platform. Now I feel you are making it another matari ship that cant do anything properly, but everything so-so and thats not a good ship. Grid drop was good, but it seriously need that 7 seven turret hardpoints.

I for one tux love the HP boost

But reading this blog im a little confused.

At one point you say:

"Tech 1 Battlecruisers get 56.25% increase "

then further down you say

"After Revelations, both these ships get a 87.5% hitpoint increase"

Maybe my eyes are tired, but I dont understand this.

i see you picked the prophecy and cyclone for your example. thos two ships are pretty special because the one that has to use cap to fire its guns actually has a significant cap advantage. unfortunately thats not the case for most ships.

lets try two others: geddon vs typhoon (domi vs typhoon works jsut as well)
on tq right now:
geddon: 4250cap/870sec
typhoon: 4000cap/870sec

on tq the geddon has 250 more base cap and a slightly better recharge rate because of it. thats pretty messed up to start with but also a pretty good example of the cap difference between ships that use cap to fire their weapons and those that do not.

now we get the hp-boost. fights will last longer and the geddon wll be much more at risk to run out of cap during the fight than the typhoon.

now comes the cap boost. on sisi its 50% atm and leaves us with this:

geddon: 6375cap/1305sec +2125cap
typhoon: 6000cap/1305sec +2000cap

the geddon now has an amazing 375 more base cap and again a slightly better recharge rate. thats 6.25% more base cap than the typhoon. apparently the typhoon needs 2000 more base cap to tank longer now. while it does this it can also fire its guns.

so lets see how the geddon fares. if we give the geddon those same 2000 more base cap to tank longer we are left with a meager 125 more base cap to fire its guns for the longer duration of the fight.


supposedly ammo using weapons get a reduction in ammo size to allow them to carry more ammo for the longer fights. lasers/hybrids use cap as their ammo. now why do we not get a better increase in capacitor than projectile/missile/droneships?

i see that you reduced cap-booster size. are cap boosters now a requirement for all laser/hybrid ships? will you add another medslot for those ships so we can actually fit them? or maybe add a midslot module thats needed to reload projectile weapons/missiles to restore the balance there?
