for ratting.

highs:
5x 1200mm Heavy Prototype I Artillery
2x Malkuth Siege Missile Launcher I
mids:
1x LiF Fueled I Booster Rockets
3x F-b10 Nominal Capacitor Regenerator
1x Optical Tracking Computer I
lows:
1x Beta Reactor Control: Reaction Control I
1x Large 'Accommodation' Vestment Reconstructer I
2x Armor Thermic Hardener II
1x Armor EM Hardener II
1x Counterbalanced Weapon Mounts I

ok, before everyone screams OMG'S USE TEH AUTOCANNONS FOR RATS! no I don't want to chase rats around roids with an MWD like fat kids chase.. well you get the point :D

I noticed battleships like to stay about 28/34km away once you warp in so if I'm sitting still I should be able to track them at 24/40km yes?

the tank and cap definitly isn't going to be a problem since I'll only have three active hardners and guns running but I'm worried about tracking? so I'll let the experts tell me if I'm going to be able to hit the broadside of a barn.

I don't know how anyone would be able to fit six with that setup.

577.00 powergrid, 17.65 cpu, remain.

Crap,crap,megacrap...Wait nevermind those are autocannons, yes nice setup but you can warp to a belt at 100km to snipe with so warping too close shouldnt be a problem.

if you snipe i think will be better to drop a siege for another 1200 or eventually drop siege for cruise, fit a pdu in the low instead of the recharger and fit a 6th 1200mm

also if the area is not very secure it could be a good idea to fit a nos or 2, just to not to be totally defensless against a tackler

and... how about a phoon? if you can use heavy drones probably it will perform better than the pest

this fit is uber crap imo.

use 6 1400 mm, 2 assalt missles (+drones to take care about frigs on low orbit)
AB, large shield booster, invul + 2 spec hardners OR 2 spec hards + traking comp
LOW : 3 diagnostic t2 3 gyros t2
( i used this setup to make lvl 4 agent)

OR
same hi-slots
AB , sensor booster , 2-3 tracking comps /cap rech
LOW: 3 gyros t2, armor repair 2 active hards - this one will easy handle any belt spawn easy, just warp on 100km and using -25% optimal ammo just keep range on total optimal egde.

friend of mine had just med armor repair and other lots was on damage/track/optimal, he just warp in and insta pop-up everything, nothing aproched him, nothing shoot at him.

you know it bugs me when people reply with a bias and not objectivly tell me what's wrong with my setup.

first of all I do not want to "run away" from the spawns so 1400mm arty is not going to work.
I want to be able to hit them around 30/40km away fairly consistently and I want to stay away from autocannons because they can't hit **** past 18km and like I said in my first post I don't want to play "chase the rats around with an mwd".

don't reply if you can't OBJECTIVLY tell me what's wrong with my setup instread of following the crowd and screaming autocannon.

I'd say dump one of the cap rechargers and add a target painter. Not usre if you plan to leave that last high slot empty, you could always try to fit a nos in there to make up for one less cap recharger.

Whether or not you hit is also going to depend on your skills as much as your load out. Grind up skills and replace with T2 where and when possible. And for the range you're hoping ot fight at 25-35k, crank up those drone skills.

4 280mm arty t2, 4 siege launchers, 1200mm will not track on so low orbit
cheers

To be honest I've yet to test this setup, but it is what I'm planning on as a general purpose ratter/mission runner.

High: 6x 1200mm Artillery, 2x Cruise Missile Launcher or 2x Assault Missile depending on how many frigs I'm facing

Med: 1 100MN AB II, 1 X-Large Shield Booster II, 3 Tech II Shield hardeners

Low: 2x PDS II, 2x Co-Processor, 2x Misc (Nano's in my case as I like to move fairly fast - could also do damage mods of some kind).

This is based off someone who gave what I felt was great advice early one when I started training Minmatar ships. My general idea for this setup would be engaging at far, if not extreme range where tracking would be less of an issue, and likely tanking as well. The 2 Nano's would let me get there relatively quickly for a battleship.

Like I said it's just my idea - things may change greatly once I try it. If I were to go armor tanking with the Tempest your setup is most likely along the lines of what I would try - the main exception being I'd do just about anything to get the 6th gun on there.

Reason why everyone thinks you should use 1400mms at 30-40km because they dont have a problem hitting at that distance i used 1400mm on gurista's.

Another reason why people recommend typhoon is that it has more low slots for an armor tank and a much bigger drone bay.

I gave up on arti ratting. I can push 1400 II to 55 DPS/gun on average Sansha BS. That's with Min. BS 4, Large Arti. spec 3, all support gun skills at 5 except Surgical Strike and Trajectory Analysis (both 4). That's with Phased Plasma, 2 best named tracking computers and 3 gyros II.

The range is nothing to write home about - 50 km optimal with 42 km falloff. I can get a comfortable optimal of 97 km with long range ammo (in my case Proton), but then DPS falls to 40 ...

In comparison, Siege Launcher on Typhoon does 60 DPS/launcher with just 2 BCU II, 800k SP in missiles and much less fitting problems. The difference (2 gun slots and 2 missile slots) can be easily plugged by autocannons and bigger drones.

just wanted to add about ACs
i pick up 1 bullet, it`s price 80 isk . What i want to get for this 80 isk? 120 damage? or 600?

in PVP maybe, in ratting - no way
think again.

Might be better working on this
6x1200mm (scouts are best named), 2xCruise(arbalest are best named)
1xAb, 2xTracking Comp, 2xCap Rech
1xReactorControl, 1xLar, 1xGyro2, 3xArmour Hardeners

I use this something very similar to this if am ratting with a tempest. Keeps ammo consumption down. And tanks reasonably well. I do have AWU4 though.

well tbh when just ratting I'd go for a shield tank. (unless fighting sansha maybe) while not as strong a tank as a raven, it can easily tank 0.0 spawns.

if u tank with the mids u can use the lows for dmg mods.
more dps = more isk/h

Also I really suggest an ac setup with 1 tractor beam, the boost in isk from the loot can be quite nice =)

IMO if u are going to use arty use 1400 because 1200 are crap.

But for ratting i would use a typhoon over a tempest becuse missiles are better for NPCing

about ur setup:

iam not a fan of the 1200II, not real good at damage or range, but u probally need to fit those if u dont have that well skills. That u use only 5 guns, is kind of weird, cause with kicking one of those launchers u should have the grid and cpu, and u get a bonus towards artis and not launchers, so i guess more guns are better.

About that mwd, iam not a 100 sure what is the purpose of that, cause normaly the npc stay at good range. The mwd gimps ur cap and ur fitting posibitlty. So u might want to kick that off to, guristas are good pest npcs. Cant do that much wrong with cap rechargers. About the tracking cpu, iam not too sure if u realy need that, might want to kick that of for a sensor booster or another cap recharger.

lows, u probally need the grid for the fitting, acco is a good choice when u dont have grid and cpu to spare, i wouldnt use t2 hardners, cause the named t1 are enough for npcs, the benefit isnt that great, not to mention that the stack is kind of an issue, why do u have an em hardner, as u r rawr i assume u hunt in tribute, which would make an kinetic hardner. The last one is a named gyrostab? If so try a t2 its probally better.

In the end, the setup look a bit unbalanced, u have 1200 (lousy damage) but some siege launchers (no bonuses, and the cms would be better to kills cruiers) Then it comes to cpr not that bad, to an mwd (why?) to a tracking computer (?). As i said ur rawr, u should hardner balistic 2 and thermic 1. The low slots are kind of not that bad, but with a t1 damag mod and t2 hardners, which stack to ur resitances i would swtich the hardners for named and teh gyrostab for t2.

ok well as we are talking about guristas here - we are right?
First they do crap damage, as all npc btw. Anyhow, as i rat with a pest ill have a different approach. Max damage and use as max of the bonuses as possible.

1400II as u have already been mentioned, bs stay away like 30k cruiser at 20. Not that optimal range but u hit. So u just stand there or allign shootin bs with ur 1400II, use 5 med drones to deal with frigs and cruiers, when the bs are done, u still have the cruiser issue, cause u dont hit that well, so what u do is simple, start approaching the cruiers, as they will try to get back in their orbit, they will fly in a direct line and so u hit every single shot. normaly takes u 1 volley to get rid of those.

Med, i had kind of ab, cap recharge fitting and whatnot, wasnt that bad, but that great either. So I tried a shield tank, with 2 kinetic, 1 thermic hardener - shield boost amp and xl or l Shield booster. And my pest char has absolut crap shield skills, i can use all that stuff but nothing skilled till the end. And i can tank up to tripple masacre spawns with no real threat.

LOW, as iam shield tank i need cap, as i need powergrid for the 1400 and the booster, i fitted 3 PDU, which gives u the abilite to have 1400 and an xl booster, with a good boost at ur shield hp. Then i came up with 3 gyrostabs - iam a fan of those 2k damage messages ;)

In short

1400II
2 kinetic, 1 thermic hardner, shield booster, amplifier
3 pdu, 3 gyros

works out very well, its not as good as a raven, but i do benefit from the tempst bonuses and i have no issue tanking, tripple spawns or npc minign ops. If u use a l or xl booster doenst matter, the l booster give u a reserve for a nos or launchers.

I know I know you want pest setups, but for easy as ratting and mission running spend a week training for a raven. All you need to do is warp in, press function keys, activate tank and tractor up loot, all in quick time.

Im minmatar spec ftw, but nothing beats a Raven for isk grinding.

why make it so bloody hard..

why use 1200mm? they suck, and then they suck some more
use 6xT1400mm
shield tank and pdus and traching enchanser/gyro in low's
rating is boring these days..to easy by far
and btw..dont forget ur drones hehe
