Drones V
Combat Drone Operation IV
Drone Interfacing IV
Gunnery V
Medium Hybrid Turret IV
Gallente Cruiser V (reduces cap reduction for MWD)
High Speed Manuevering (A MUST for a thorax)
Various gunnery mod skills would prove usefull as well

You don't NEED those at 5 to fly one decently, but its a good target to work towards.

That's overkill, or at least not a "basic" list. What you need does depend on what you want to do with it, but to PvE effectively get Drones V and some Drone Interfacing, and Hull Upgrades IV so you can fit active hardeners (makes a big difference to survival). Then work everything else up fairly evenly, focusing on areas where you percieve the shortage most keenly (usually cap and repair).

I think noobs are better off sticking with their frigs and getting the basics up first before they get into a beast like the Thorax.

In fact I'd even recommend getting a tech 2 frig first.

Of course it takes 2 months, but I had the Thorax with the mentioned skill set once and it was a killing machine.

Thanks for the input. I am close to being able to fly one but short on isk. I probably will not get one imeadiately as my destroyer is overkill already for the missions I am flying.

I will pick up the books for training med hybrid turrets when I get home from work and start learning them. And continue working on what was suggested.

Thanks again.

Energy Management and Energy systems ops. A thorax goes through the cap pretty fast. Depending on your needs you may want afterburner to 4 so you can learn MWD's. Motion prediction so your guns hit more. You'll want to learn med. hybrid turrets as well. Engineering will probably have to be trained up as your usually working with a really tight fit. Drones are really your main weapon when you fly Gallente. Learn to use 5 of them and then drone interfacing to at least 4.

To sum up, more cap skills and drone skills.

You don't need the suggested list by the poster above before starting a thorax but I would recommend staying with the 'rax until you have it before moving up. Rushing into a ship you can barely use is a good way to throw away the iskies.
