Genesis Project

Please Note: This is a conceptual design, and comes from a simple player. Many of the concepts, ideas and changes mentioned here are by no mean originals by me, and have been brought together simply because I like to dream a little. Oh, and the ĎGenesis Projectí was blatantly ripped off from the E-ON magazine, who admitted to ripping it off of Star Trek.

The ĎGenesis Projectí is a term Iím pirating to focus this article on system sovereignty, and all the parts that go with it. Some sections covered below include:

- Sovereignty
- Player Owned Stations
- Outposts
- Deadspaces
- Colonies
- Inter-System Transportation and Jump Gates
- Intelligence

Currently: Sovereignty is where an alliance has possession of a system. Its gives a 25% reduction to POS fuel usage, and labels the system publicly as being under the control of said alliance. Sovereignty is gained by placing more POSís in a system than any other alliance. Large POSís have more value then small ones. It takes five days for a system to be declared the property of an alliance.

Changes: The changes are simple, and are meant to make the way sovereignty is decided more in-depth and practical, while addressing some things that I feel are flaws.
- Sovereignty of a system (a single star system) is based off of which alliance has the majority of assets in a system. (No real change)
- Sovereignty of a constellation (multiple star systems tied together) is based off of which alliance has the majority of assets in all systems within the constellation. (Constellation sovereignty is currently not in game)
- Several items are included in system AND constellation sovereignty, including POSís, Outposts, Stations and Colonies (descriptions listed below). Each separate item has a different value towards sovereignty, and is covered in later sections. (Currently, POSís are the only factor affecting sovereignty)
- Other alliances can be allowed to place items in a system, without challenging sovereignty. (Not sure if this is already possible)
- If an alliance controls the majority of systems within a constellation, and none of the non-controlled systems are being challenged, the alliance may request sovereignty of the entire constellation. (Completely new)

Reasoning: From a storyline perspective, I wanted to figure out how Empires can claim the space they occupy, and make that available to players. The reason for this is to create an even playing field, where player alliances have all the rights and abilities of NPC groups like pirate and empire factions. Eventually, I would love to see the ability for player alliances to compete, and even take systems and resources, from Empires.
Looking at sovereignty from that end, I quickly felt that since there were no massive POS structures in Empire space, POSís COULD NOT be the sole factor in deciding sovereignty. So I began daydreaming about colonization, and wrote a piece about it.
After the ĎColonization and Sovereigntyí was finished, I ran into several concepts by other players which opened my eyes to how POSís are used and can be changed/added.

No. Just another player with too much time on his hands.
