Once I thought it would be kind of nice if it was possible to find out a characters ID knowing it's name (for example, to get the character image at http://myeve.eve-online.com/chr/serv.asp?s=512&c=<CHARACTER ID>)...

I also noticed that others also wanted to do this...

Well, anyways, here goes:

http://eve-ig.com/char2id.php?<charname> will return that characters ID if I have it in my database. Otherwise it will return 0.

Example
http://eve-ig.com/char2id.php?Teen will return 336682704

http://eve-ig.com/char2id.php?ThisNameIDontHave will return 0

Currently there are only 1394 IDs in my database, but the number should grow ;).

Oh, and there's no _guarantee_ that the IDs are correct ;) though they seem to be atm...

To write some nifty guild tools like rosters or a character lookup and the like? That would definately be a nice thing to do. However, I wouldn't really like my skills to be published and how high they are so pirates get to browse the character database at work and pick easy kills that way.

But maybe a link to your portrait would be nice. Just not your skills and other information that could be exploited. Earth and Beyond does that, it is possible to find a character for as long as you know the guild it was in and then browse its character sheet along with all its skills and the like.

But then, Earth and Beyond doesn't have PvP.
Hmm, now that I think of it, does http://myeve.eve-online.com/chr/serv.asp?s=512&c=336682704 reqire a login cookie?

Edit: Allow the s parameter to go up to 1024 please, that way we can bypass the (currently) broken character exportation process of the client. Rolling Eyes I want to toddle with my portrait in Photoshop! Cool

afaik the only use we currently could have for the character-id is getting the portrait ;). the character-info-sheet for example requires you to be logged in...
