I only check this forum every few days, but I've seen a lot of threads today that either A) have been answered by one person in a very common sensical way and that's the end of it, or B) were answered by the poster themselves in a fashion that highlights their lack of forethought.

In situation A, I can give some leeway for another person having more knowledge than the poster... I mean, sure, the point of this forum is to ask players for help. Granted. But when they tell you something really simple like "restart your computer" and it works and you're surprised, that frustrates me. Same for case B, where you post that something's broken, and it's actually your ISP or your computer having not enough RAM or something ******ed like that.

If you have a legitimate bug, file a petition. The point of this forum is to find a WORKAROUND for that bug until it has been fixed. We don't need to know that your client didn't login all the way and you were queued for a while and then you restarted the client and it worked. Whoop-tee-freaking-doo. It's good to know you got it working, but please try to restart before posting a thread and flaming CCP.

That last part is what got me started on this rant that's been brewing all day. People getting ****ed off at CCP and posting about how crappy EVE is when the problem is really their own computer or ISP or lack of intelligence. If you have discovered a bug, sorry to hear it, but file a petition. If you'd like help overcoming that bug, post a thread and those of us with tech experience (or who read the blogs regularly and know that there's a fix on the way) will do our best to help. But if you just want to flame CCP, go start a Deadjournal and leave the rest of us alone.

In conclusion, be constructive.

Constructive problem #1: The really bad lag that's making the game unbearable. Any word on when this is going to get fixed? Is there a relationship between the lag and the level3.london network connection?

That's my constructive bit.

The reason CCP doesn't reimburse for lag-related problems (where DC isn't recorded, anyways) is that it's so hard to track down where the problem's happening and whose fault it is. Personally, I have next-to-no lag in EVE (I'm in the US). Quite a few people don't either; keep in mind that the people who post in "problems & workarounds" are likely going to be only the people who have problems, and for so many thousands of users, there aren't that many.

Regardless, CCP did have a problem with their ISP about a month ago, but that's been resolved AFAIK. Any lag issues are, 99% of the time, something you should contact your ISP about. And let's face it, 99% of the time, your ISP is going to deny that it's a problem. I had to fight tooth and nail to get SBC to fix mine. Concerning a relationship between lag and the jump in London... I just have to refer to the fact that I'm not having a problem, and most others aren't either.

I do remember reading that people on Orange (ISP in the UK, at the least... I'm not really familiar with services over there) were having issues, and it was Orange's issue, not CCP's. This was after a bunch of people claimed it was CCP; turned out it wasn't. Who is your ISP? What's your upload/download? Do they throttle down after a certain amount of traffic? Do you run anything else while running EVE?

PS I only get a ping of 134 off the level3.london jump. For a game that's interfaced like EVE, that's not that bad at all. Admittedly, this isn't during peak, but I just thought I'd share that. What are you getting off them?

Shaw Cable
7 Mbps/1 Mbps 100GB per month (Last time I checked, I was using 30-50 GB)
Occasionally I use WinAmp, but I was getting disco'd quite a few times last night with just EVE running.

It jumps to 150+ for the last few hops of the tracert.

Yeah, that's not much higher than me and I'm not getting any DCs or lag. This is what says to me that the problem's not that jump. Could be something client side... but again, I'm skeptical. Try the old standards of clearing your cache, checking to make sure your system's not overheating, maybe running a traceroute while being on EVE so you can see if and where you get a lag spike when you DC. I'm curious whether something's going on somewhere in the pipe that's unrelated to either CCP or your computer, but is causing a lag spike that times you out and DCs you.

When I ran the traceroutes, I was connected to the server at the time. I don't remember the exact numbers, but the hops are usually <100ms until I hit london.level3 where it triples to 150ish.
As for overheating and such, I'd go with that theory except for the fact that EVE is the only app that's acting up in any way. If it was overheating, I'd be enjoying other perks like random shutdowns, or BSODs, which I'm not.
I did a clean reinstall of the client on Sunday, and it seemed to help for a few hours, but then the lag started up again, with DC's getting more frequent. last night, I was getting DC'd every couple of minutes, after starting out the session with some 30 second lag when I tried to do stuff.

Lag for me was a major problem until I moved to a land far far away from places like Jita, Motsu etc where there is high population, large number of mission runners, and cans (assumed from number of mission runners)

Your best bet imo is to find an out of the way place with an agent of high quality who works for an odd or seldom used corporation.

CCP has had some database issues ermmm... can't find the right links but has been in the news alot recently, they are trying their best.

Barrick ,

When ppl pay to play a game , they have a right to expect certain things . AND CCP has an obligation to provide them with a working product .

Just because your lucky enough not to be having the lag / DC problems does not mean they are not very real. And yes they are reimbursing lost ships due to this lag problem even when the person did not DC. They have acknowledged there is a problem on their end . And it's not the customers fault they do not have enough support personnel to answer petitions in a timely manner . Support personnel is part of operating costs associated with any company , and if you not willing to fully meet the staffing levels then you don't need to be in a customer orientated business.

And yes , the right to complain is protected if you are an American by the constitution and our armed forces. If you want a job with CCP , stop being a fanboy and kissing up and please just send us in your resume.

You would think so, but actually they don't.

I did not say a legal obligation . But they do have an obligation to keep their customer base happy , or as you see on the 14 page post , ppl start cancelling their subscription which then hits their pocket book. Ppl will only take and pay for soo much BS before they get feed up , turn on their longest training time and turn their multiple accounts off for a month or 2 like I just did. And then make a free account like I just did to ensure the problem is fixxed before re-subscribing . My lag and DC connection issues seem to have been resolved with the latest hotfix.

I might be mistaken here but the down/up stats isnt all tha matters. Becouse thats just the how fast you can download a specific amount of data.
Its the hz/"ping" of your connecion that matters how fast the signals is sent not the amount.

So even if you have a 8mbit connection that doesnt automaticly garante you have a good ping.
Im not a 100% about this but almost.

So if someone knows more about this please correct me becouse I wanna know if im wrong about this.

Problem with jump :

At each jump, I lost about 50% fps (90fps-40fps-20fps-10fps-5fps-2fps).

The alone solution for reincrease the fps is disco/reco.

I have send a complete bug report no news ... This problem come since the next patch and on SiSi when the patch is tested ...
