Given that Transgaming has come out with it's new "cider" option.
The work to port eve to mac osx would be much easier.
We already know that CCP and Transgaming have worked together on a few patches recently.
Is there any possibility we could see a Cider port of EVE?

This isn't technically a "port". If CCP decides to use the CIDER wrapper then the game would be 'playable' (theoretically) on MAC without porting.

This 'wrapper' is not an emulator per se, rather a set of code that encapsulates the actual application to allow it to run on multiple platforms by interpreting calls and translating them to the platform's native environment. Similar in effect to the way EVE is playable via cedega on linux, but without the overhead of a separate program to 'run' the game.

If this application 'wrapping' proves successful, it would open up not only MAC, but linux as well to applications and games currently limited to the windows platform.

The drawbacks, as I see it are very similar to what recently happened to us on the cedega/linux side with the 4561 patch. The game patch implemented some...'regressions', which caused havoc with how responsive it was on the linux platform.

With the wrapper, the application developers would have to ensure that updates and changes to the products conformed to the wrapper's needs as well as the native platform, or any updates would continually break the non native environments, and that wouldn't be a good thing.

Indeed, Eve is compatible to Cider (read on transgaming homepage, stated eve is one of the few games at who runs with cider.)

BUT! where can you aquire/buy Cider? i have honestly no idea, and as my Windows computer suddenly decided EvE isnt a good game (Local Session Corrupt error??) i will look forward to this.(Devs havent answer my petitions for a week now)

So this is intressting, toyed with the idea to run Linux on the Mac and then run Cedega and run eve that way, but turned out to be very complicated.

On Tuesday 6th (tomorrow) we will be deploying our Mac and Linux clients.

You do not need to 'pay' for Cedega or Cider it is provided by our client.

If you use Cider or Cedega for other games you will still need to pay for Cedega and Cider to support those games but not for EVE.
