Gate Camps are horrible Game Play - why does CCP allow it?

I mean wtheck? You jump you die without any possibility of fighting back or getting away and with no chance to do anything even vaguely entertaining, AND you lose stuff it took you days to gather.

Thats supposed to be FUN?

Spawn Camping is a PVP issue in any game that has PVP. And Gates are Spawns for all intents and purposes. Its where you enter the playing field without the ability to see what you are getting into.

So why doesn't CCP do something to prevent them from happening, things other games have done with success? Do they LIKE losing customers? For trust me, this has and will lose them paying customers.

So why not fix it?

Here is a simple way to do it -

WARP FREE WEAPONS FREE ZONE AROUND STARGATES

Its that simple. You cant use a warp engine or a weapon, and weapons will not lock or explode, within X meters of a Stargate. Thus players jumping in will have to fly out of the gate area before warping. Players trying to camp the gate will not be able to lock onto or fire upon, or be fired upon, players who are in the Secure Zone around the Stargate. Players jumping in will then have the opportunity to look around and decide to back off, or stay and wait it out, or parlay or fight it out.

And that would be an end to gate camps. Gate Sieges would replace them - something that still lets battles happen and systems to be defended, but which does so in a FUN way, rather than a one sided pointless subscription ending way.

And it would be so EASY to do. The program ALREADY monitors your distance from a jump gate and uses that distance to determine whether or not one of your ship systems will function (the Jump function). So just tie this into the target lock, weapon and warp drive function too. Some minor complication to tie it to both yourself and your targets location, but for the guys who made the Eve Galaxy that should be a simple thing, no?

So why don't they do it? Games been around for three years and they havent figured out that Gate camps are bad game play?????

Hmmm can i have youre stuff when u quit. This is called low sec for a reason why didnt u have nanos and warp stabs fitted why arent u in a player corp (oh all noob corpers are kill on sight in low sec generally)

Its a fundamental part of the gameplay so when u head back to the risk free element of wow

is it really bad, if it is still ingame after 3 years?
learn to adapt or perish. you have means given to you to identify, survive or bypass gatecamps.

He is actually suggesting a viable idea. You jump into a system, there's guys camping it, you can EITHER turn round and jump back, OR, stay and fight/run.


It's just that CCP don't want that sort of a game. You are not given the option of avoiding trouble in EVE, except by staying out of low-sec altogether. As soon as you break for 0.4 space, you accept the fact that someone might gank you without you being remotely able to avoid him.

Who says its bad gameplay?

Who says its about paying customers?

CCP doesnt, its their game. Who elected you to tell us what bad gameplay is?

Spawn camping doesnt apply to this game, go to world of warcraft. Jumping through gates are voluntary, you dont have to go through them, you choose to and take the risk that you will get killed on the otherside.

So we wardec an alliance and certain members wish to pvp and others dont.

You catch the ones who do not wish to pvp on the exit from a gate (they insta into it). If you do not get them on exit from the gate they insta to where they are docking.

Your proposal makes said people almost 100% invulnerable to pvp in a game where it is expressly non-consensual.

Sounds like a bad idea to me.

What about going to a game where pvp is consentual if you don't like non-consentual pvp ? I mean it's not like there's a shortage of such games, and get the **** out of Eve and leave people who enjoy non-consentual pvp alone.

Gate Camps are a (not unimportant) part of Wars and Piracy. And why should a player not be able to use his weapons near a Jumpgate? Sounds a little bit stupid to me ugh

So you think thats good game play? Shooting at something that doesnt get to shoot back? How lousy is your self esteem that that sounds like a good time to you?

My idea does nothing to detract from the gate camper. He still gets to fight it out with the ships that are big enough to fight. He loses the chance to pod n00bs or people trying to get from A to B in their shuttle craft. Hardly a detraction from game play, is it? And who knows, maybe the Shuttle will still kick in his stabs and shield boosts and try to make a run for it.

How is that detracting from what "Eve is"????

Making play FUN is bad? Gimme a break.

And btw, its simple enough to make a rationalization that explains why - the stargates are big mojo, they interfere with warp bubbles and weapons systems.

I am currently in a (non-pirate) gate camp and have turned to the forums because I am bored off my ******* in it - so that's my main gripe with gate camping, long tracts of boredom and inactivity - though when it all kicks orf, what fun!!

Oh oh i know.. take weapons out of the game... to the days of laser tag lasers.. that way we can pvp and ppl don't die!! replace all missiles with snowballs and we can hit ppl where ever.. and instead of warp scrambles you need to reach out and grab the ships with your bare hands!!

Name one ship other then shuttles and frieghters that can't shoot back.. not my fault if you don't put guns on your hauler or drones in your barges/carriers

The reason simpley being ships full of T2 goodies and other various valuables often travel thro systems and neva vist belts, u convince every carebear to come to the belts thro every system the go thro and pirates will fight them there instead. Non-consentual pvp ftw YARRRR!!

Id like to see a system with out insta pops but where instead they simply stopped you from warping then had to chase you down with a fast ship.


Maybe we need bubbles in low sec. But longer loc times for big to small ships.

EvE is a MMO. That means you play it with other people.

This includes the possibility to make friends.

Get a friend and let him scout for you.

If you are uncapable of making friends with other persons, register yourself a scout alt.

-lowsec for people that didnt mind pvp but didnt want to pvp at gates or other forms of to and fro choke pointing.
-0.0 or lower for people that wanted a pure FFA experience

I thought that because of the gate guns mostly. There original point seemed to be to make it safe to enter in and out of a system in low sec but not protect you in the wilds. It seemed like a logical system. The people really into gate camping had 0.0 The people that didnt want to get involved in gate camping pvp had low sec.

However its seems that developers really dont see it in that sort of structure so... ooops!

OP could consider something else though. What if you could get info about the grid on the otherside of the gate from the gate you are fixing to use? Then atleast they would have to cloak =) But that would ruin all these guys fun that really are into sitting at a gate.
