How do I break the 2.5M ISK battleship tank.

Using Raven with 6 arby cruise and wrath missiles. Have Lvl 4 in cruise and all of the other skills, bombardment, projection etc. Also 2x BCU IIs. Managed to break his shield last night on my final volley before reloading and by that time he was back to almost full shield.

He also stays out of range of drones and nos and webber. (49km).

Any help welcome.

I can break his tank with cruise missiles at range now. However, back when I did not have T2 Cruise and a very low RoF what I would always do is the following:

1. Carry Arb Torp Launchers, an Afterburner and ammo for this mission, drop them off at a station in system.
2. Clear the level
3. Refit with Torps and Afterburner
4. Head back to the level

The trick with this NPC is that he shoots down missiles 1 to 2 per volley which seriously impacts your DPS.

To get around this and have the added bonus of drone damage, fly as close to him as you can. Set the drones on him and toggle the torp launchers on. You will kill him quickly.

You can do the same thing with Cruise Missiles if you do not want to fit Torps but if you can afford them, the torps will be faster. Since you have to refit for the AB, you might as well drop in the torp launchers as well.

I used to have the same problem.

Firstly stagger the load outs on your launchers so as to keep as many on the go at anyone time as possible.(You seem to be constantly reloading but you will find you have at least 4/5 constantly shooting him and short periods where all 6 are on him) this way he does not get chance to sheild boost.

Dont follow him once you have killed all the other stuff as he always moves away and in a worst case scenario 'jumps' back to where you started (200+km away)

Fit a drone mod in high slot that increases drone range and they will then be able to reach him.

Ok I had to train a few drone skills up to do the above but its the diference between taking him easy or struggling like crazy.

If I recall I used to fit as many Ballistic Control 2s in lows that I could as well.

It is a pain but it is doable...dont give up !

Thanks for the help guys.

I had fitted torps but with my skills the rof was awfull(lvl2) and it seemed I could do as much damage with Cruise(lvl4). Didn't think of the AB as well as the torps. Doh. Will be trying that tonight.

Thanks again.

You need to get in close (<20km) and stay close so he doesn't shoot down your missiles and just keep firing. It is perfectly doable with cruise and drones as long as you clear the stage apart from him, warp out, warp back in and get as close as you can before he aggros you.

Never stagger your load, it has no impact on whether or not the NPC shield boosts. All it does is allow additional opportunities to shoot down your missiles with defenders. Which lowers your DPS. At your rate of fire this guy is shooting down 1.5 - 2.0 missles per volley. That is a massive decrease in your Damage Output.

Keep all your launchers identical and try to fire them as close together as possible. This is a good habit to get into for all combat.

As suggested above, hold your fire as you move towards the NPC until you are under 20km, even if he aggros, just tank it and move closer. Once you get under his defender range (20km is a good estimate) then open up to maximize your damage per load.

Laughing Don't stagger?

Don't defender missiles remain to be the only missile with splash damage?

I've heard it said that if you fire all your missiles together, one defender can take all of them instead of just one.

But I dunno, I never saw it happen myself. Perhaps you are right.

You can also just fit a drone link for this mission and send your drones after him from 49km out. Just carry 5 mediums and a large in your bay. Send in 4 mediums and the large, and when you start seeing the impact on his shields, fire your cruise. Ideally, you'd have 2 large, 2 medium, and a light for the final encounter, but you'll probably want the mediums for the rest of the mission, and the point of this approach is to avoid refit.

Make sure you are doing thermal damage. He has extremly high kinetic resists, but is weak to thermal. Thermal torpedos or even cruise missiles will take him out just like any other battleship.

Takes a little while with cruise, sometimes a reload. I have a 7.39 rof though with 2 BCU.

I just fitted a 425mm rail when i had those probs.. Wink 4 arby cruise, 2 arby siege, 425mm rail and one nos (no BCU at the time) The rail seems to tip the balance..
Though i must admit that it is some time ago that i had such low skills that he was a problem Cool

Wrong. Rachen Mysuna is a guristas NPC and has kinetic as his lowest shield resist, NOT thermal (50% kinetic, 80% thermal).

I have done that mission now several times,

do not use thermal missles but explosives (he has 0% resistance in armor and structure against it) and dont forget using drones on him at the same time (btw i think he is orbiting at around 40km's).

My offensive setup: 6 * Cruise Missle Launchers T2 + 2 * BCS T2 + 5 * Hammerhead T2

With that it still takes me around 8 minutes to kill him...patience is the key to kill him Very Happy

gl with the mission next time,
Elbar

PS.: Ignore this if you aren't killing Hoborak Moon but someone else Wink

Considering the OP is Caldari then it's a pretty good chance he's getting missions from Caldari agents. Which means his NPC is Rachen Mysuna Wink

Some levels of EW drones, a webber drone, then close the distance so the defenders are less efficient.

My Phoon has no problems hunting those bossships down.
Even a medium Nos helps break the tank in no time once you're in range.
